Through onsite & digital modules Diversey India turns 80 Garima project trainees
From unskilled labourers into fearless Covid Warriors!
Under the aegis of Garima CSR Project initiated by Diversey India - a leader in hygiene, sanitation and infection prevention products, and supported by Doctors For You (DFY) - a pan-India humanitarian organization; close to 80 hygiene technicians are now supporting Covid-19 casualty ward of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Government Hospital (LNJP Hospital) in Delhi as frontline Covid Warriors.
Launched in 2016, Garima – the joint social initiative by Diversey India and DFY was conceptualized for uplifting the bottom-most strata within the hygiene industry – the “janitors” or “housekeepers”, as we call them. Derived from the philosophy of “Prevention is better than cure”- the role of a Hygiene technician is critical when it comes to keeping infections and diseases at bay. Garima - which means dignity in Hindi, signifies the primary objective of this program - to instill dignity towards the humble profession of cleaning. This School of Hygiene trains the unskilled workers of India with scientific techniques of cleaning and helps them find livelihood with established Facility management companies. In a span of three years, the initiative has trained close to 25,000 beneficiaries and 15,000 of them have been gainfully employed after the training.
Doctor’s For You, known for its capabilities in Disaster management and emergency response, quickly adapted to Diversey’s post outbreak SOP’s for hygiene maintenance during the onset of nation-wide lockdown and continued their training efforts through web-calls, aligning their trainers in Bihar, Delhi and Tamil Nadu. The infection prevention training modules covered key topics as following:
1.   Introduction to Covid-19 and awareness of its prevention, treatment and management
2.   Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
3.   Proper Hand hygiene technique
4.   Chemical efficacy of Virex-II 256, Oxivir-Five 16, Oxivir-TB wipes, Suma Tab and Avert Plus
5.   Cautious handling and disposal of bio-medical waste
Contribution to healthcare and public places
Between March to May this year, 2,269 candidates were trained on infection prevention and placed with various Hospitals, Airports, Centralized kitchen, food outlets, Offices & educational institutes.
“This is a great evidence of the purpose of GARIMA coming to life. We started Garima with the threefold objectives; to improve the hygiene standards in the country, to address the skilled manpower gap for our customers and to bring dignity to the profession by bringing science and expertise. With the uplift from just being a “Janitor”, to a “Hygiene technician” to an “Infection prevention technician”; we have taken another quantum leap.  We are pleased to bring a significant change to the lives of people from being unemployed to being on the frontlines of this Covid battle we are going through.” – Himanshu Jain – President, Diversey APAC
“The times are tough and we’re proud to stand with the healthcare industry in India’s fight against Covid-19. For Diversey, hygiene has always been more than business. It’s a responsibility we have taken seriously for our customers and their industries. We have brought best-in-class products like Oxivir and Virex and we’ve optimized them for easy adoption. Whilst the situation has been unnerving, we have been constantly working towards enhancing the level of awareness in hygiene, sanitation and infection prevention in the various sectors we operate. Our janitorial trainees from the Garima initiative getting reskilled to manage the Covid pandemic is a matter of great pride for Diversey India.” – LC Das - Managing Director – Diversey India & Subcontinent

Diversey reaches out to Covid-19 areas with ‘hotel discard linen’ face masks
Under the programme, the Linen that is discarded — or condemned — by hotels is collected at zero cost and distributed by Diversey’s partner NGOs

Under the programme, the   Linen that is discarded   — or condemned — by hotels is collected at zero cost and distributed by Diversey’s partner NGOs. Diversey, on the other hand, arranges for manpower to run the Linens For Life program, providing sewing machines, training people looking to earn money through preparing these masks and also, later, distributing them to the affected communities.
The program also benefits hotels that partner with Diversey in several ways, such as reducing waste disposal costs, creating brand image, employee engagement, guest satisfaction and a sustainable development commitment. It also helps in protecting the environment in a big way by reducing water consumption and CO2 emission levels.
About 45 hotels have partnered with Diversey in the program that has provided over 400,000 masks to local communities and hospitals in Covid-19-affected areas. Diversey-India, in association with Doctors For You, has created and distributed over 62,000 masks from the linen donated by Novotel and OYO. They have worked in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Punjab and Delhi.

From Linen To Mask
In its fight against the pandemic, Diversey, a sustainable solutions provider launched its Linens for Life campaign in Mumbai, over the weekend. With their hotel partners, they convert discarded linen into useful masks through the support of NGOs, thereby also providing income to those involved in producing these masks.
"The initiative addresses both sustainability and employment. We have partnered with leading hotel chains like Taj, Marriott, Oberoi, IHG, Accor and others. In this span we have repurposed close to 40 tons of linen donated by these hotels. We have also partnered with the non-profit Doctors for You," Aurodeepa Rath, corporate communications, Diversey India Private Limited, told this diarist.

Diversey reaches out to Covid-19 areas with ‘hotel discard linen’ face masks
Diversey launches a social uplift programme for repurposing linen waste into protective gear for the most vulnerable local communities affected by Covid-19 across 11 nations worldwide.
Diversey, supported by its partner hotels, launches a Linens For Life programme in India with the objective of empowering people impacted by disasters. With this programme, Diversey demonstrates how it has successfully joined the global community in the fight against Covid-19, together with its customer hotels and partner NGOs, and supporting society as a whole.
With this programme, families can increase their income by converting linens discarded by hotels into new and useful items which they can sell. At present, there are 23 ongoing Linens For Life face mask projects in 11 nations across Asia, Europe and Latin America. About 45 hotels have partnered with Diversey in the programme that has provided over 400,000 masks to local communities and hospitals in Covid-19-affected areas.
The company has worked on this programme in countries across the world, including Greece, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore, apart from India, to support the lives of people affected by disaster, as also disabled children and the elderly.
How the programme works
Linen that is discarded, or condemned, by hotels is collected at zero cost and distributed by Diversey’s partner NGOs, while Diversey arranges for manpower to run the Linens For Life programme, providing sewing machines, training people looking to earn money through preparing these masks and also, later, distributing them to the affected communities.
The programme also benefits hotels that partner with Diversey in several ways, such as reducing waste disposal costs, creating brand image, employee engagement, guest satisfaction and a sustainable development commitment. Not only that, but the programme also helps in protecting the environment in a big way by reducing water consumption and CO2 emission levels.
"Masks are the first line of defence against the virus and it’s critical to ensure that there’s no shortage. Thanks, Diversey-India, for allowing us to contribute to this noble endeavour," said Ritesh Agarwal, Founder and CEO, OYO Hotels & Homes
Objectives of Linens For Life
* Providing hotel partners with a meaningful way to recycle used linen that helps their local communities.
* Providing a livelihood to local communities through their creative work in converting used linen into items for sale.

Diversey introduces personal hygiene kit Diversey Hygieniser
Diversey, a leading cleaning and hygiene solutions company, here announced the launch of another invaluable kit that will be another weapon in the Covid warrior’s armoury — the Diversey Hygieniser.
With office spaces and commercial establishments set to open shortly, this kit will provide an additional safety shield along with other measures taken by the organisations to counter the threat of Covid-19. The Diversey Hygieniser is a personal hygiene kit provided to each employee at his/her workplace to sanitise his/her hands and personal desk.
“We at Diversey have customer-centricity as a core driver of all planning and activities. Launching the Diversey Hygieniser Kit (trademarked) is not just about introducing another need-of-the-hour product to the market; instead we are urging people to add a necessary habit to their daily routine, especially at shared office spaces. Managing Covid-19 is a healthcare challenge and adopting safe personal hygiene is the only alternative at this point in time. Responsibility for hygiene in offices can no longer be limited to the housekeeping personnel, it needs to be seriously undertaken by each one of us. While we might have uncertainties ahead, we foresee this Hygieniser kit to be an integral part of the “new normal” as employees resume office wearing masks, maintaining safe distances and exercise adequate caution about the sanitisation of their personal workspace,” LC Das, MD, India and Subcontinent, Diversey India.
