Cheryl Thomas Crime Scene

Cheryl Thomas was attacked during the night of January 15, 1978 in Tallahassee, Florida. Ted Bundy would later admit to Dorothy Lewis that Thomas was his primary target that night, and not the Chi Omega House.

Ted Bundy entered the apartment through the window pictured above, tearing down the kitchen window flyscreen, and knocking down a flower pot on his way in (photo below). Cheryl barely woke up at the noise, thinking it was her cat. 

Bundy assaulted her right away using a club. She survived the attack but sustained 5 skull fractures and lost her hearing of her left ear. She also had a broken jaw and a dislocated shoulder. 

Below is the club used by Bundy to assault Cheryl Thomas. The item was recovered on her bedroom floor along with the pantyhose mask found in her sheets.

‘’A few weeks after Rachel’s funeral, I received a memory book from Rachel’s friends who had been on the school drama with her. As I and the other family members read through the book, we found deep and meaningful writings that expressed how much the students had loved Rachel. But mixed in with all of the tributes was some language that we didn’t understand or found shocking. Two teachers involved in the drama program explained the language to us in a cover letter that accompanied the memory book:

To Rachel’s family:

As we read over the things that the team wrote to Rachel in the memory book, we realized that there is an inside joke you might need to have explained. In the last few years, the kids have taken to giving one another nick-names that are, in fact, the complete opposite of the people to whom they are given.

You may notice that several of the kids refer to Rachel as “D.D.W.” or “Dirty, Dirty Whore.” At first glance, I would imagine that would be very shocking. They gave her this name because they admired Rachel’s solid moral stand. In fact, she made it easier for team members to voice their own, high moral beliefs. It was always intended to emphasize the qualities that her team mates most respected in her, and we hope that you will understand this intention.

We cannot tell you enough how fortunate we feel to have had Rachel as a part of this team. All of our lives have been made better by her presence, as I am sure you will see in the heartfelt praise of her peers. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful daughter with us.

I will be the first to admit that I initially found the language in some of the notes quite shocking. And as we would learn much later, D*lan K*ebold had referred to Rachel as a “godly whore” in one of the horrible videotapes he and E*ic H**ris had created in the months before the shooting.

No mother wants to have her beautiful daughter called dirty names. But after reading the letter, although I still did not like their choice of words, I understood that the drama students were expressing their respect for Rachel in a contemporary, dramatic way. as a derry (bangor) native, i need to make one thing VERY clear— the murder of the young gay man at the beginning of It: Chapter Two is not just a horror movie scene. charlie howard was real. charlie howard was on a walk with his boyfriend when he was chased, verbally abused, and thrown off a bangor bridge during the summer of 1984. stephen king loves his town and wanted viewers to feel the shock and anger his community felt after charlies death.

stephen king wrote It because of charlie & because of the emotions his murder evoked. stephen king based Pennywise off of the scariest thing this world has to offer— hatred. its our job as fans to acknowledge that.

Ted Bundy was executed on the 24th of January, 1989. Outside the prison, there was a macabre carnival-like atmosphere. As Ted Bundy was led to the electric chair, over 100 capital punishment supports sang songs, lit sparklers, danced, and cheered. Some wore specifically designed t-shirts or held signs that condoned the execution. The final two photographs show onlookers clapping as a hearse containing Ted Bundy’s corpse is taken to the mortuary.

Daniela Poggiali is an Italian nurse who is accused of killing 38 of her patients in a three-month period and afterward asking colleagues to take seemingly joyful photos of her alongside patients who had just died. She was arrested on October 9, 2014, after an autopsy on one of her victims revealed a dangerous amount of potassium in her system. Daniela reportedly injected potassium into patients whom she found to be ‘’annoying’’. Daniela denies the murders and insists she’s being framed.
