Tomorrow is the start of the F1 Team Car Launches. With the coronavirus pandemic ongoing, only five teams so far have announced the date of their car launches
McLaren are the first team to show off their new car for the 2021 F1 Season. (15/02/2021) An added bonus is @danielricciaardo will be seen in his new team colours for the first time. After three years powered by Renault, McLaren have returned to Mercedes power to reunite a relationship that previously ran for 20 years with great race and title-winning success
Alpha Tauri are next on the list (19/02/2021) The Italian team, who scored a sensational victory with Pierre Gasly in Monza last year, are looking to build on a seventh place finish in the constructors’ championship last year. AlphaTauri will give Red Bull and Honda-backed driver Yuki Tsunoda his F1 debut in 2021, the Japanese driver having tested a 2019-car at Imola and Misano in recent weeks as part of his preparations.
Alpha Romeo’s launch date is 3 days later (22/02/2021) The new Alfa Romeo, set to be called the C41 (despite last year’s being the C39), will be launched in the Polish capital as a nod to title partners ORLEN, who have some of their key operations located in the city. The car will once again be driven by the Alfa Romeo line-up of Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi, paired together at the squad for the third consecutive season.
The much anticipated Mercedes AMG Petronas are next with their launch date confirmed for March (02/03/2021). How Mercedes follows up what was possibly the fastest F1 car of all time could well set the tone for the season. Last Season’s W11 was the class of the field and helped the team to a seventh consecutive constructors’ championship, an unprecedented run of domination. Mercedes will launch it’s W12 E Performance at Silverstone (TBC) as it traditionally does ahead of winter testing.
Williams is the fifth Formula 1 team to announce the launch date of their new car, with the covers set to come off their 2021 challenger in March. (05/03/2021) The Grove team have also revealed the new car will be called the FW43B. Last season's car was the FW43, and this year's charger will be an evolution of that, as all the teams will carry over much of last year's parts - including the chassis - into 2021 as part of cost-saving measures to help cope with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Hence the 'FW43B', as opposed to a new designation for an entirely fresh car
