The Nest of a Rampant Fabric Magpie
343 posts
This is a visual album of what happens when illustrator's love for colour, textures and storytelling through image collides with a tendency to collect textiles and a fascination with Japanese culture.  私が着物を大好きなオストラリア人です。多い色で遊ぶ事が楽しいです。オストラリアで着物生活をしてしたいです。

Motoribiking in kimono?!?! yup. Can be done.
Now I have your attention - is there anything particular you’d like me to prioritise for my scanslations? More DIY? More about komono (small accessories) or more on fabric and motif? Do let me know.
Also Viva le KimoNovember 2020!

HEEEEY! It’s been a while but I am still around.  I’m a lot more active with kimono related stuff on instagram as “@fabricmagpie” This scanslation article is a neat way to DIY level up one’s haneri game. This article comes from a brilliant book called “From Zero Knowledge - Kimono and Living Primer.”  (知識ゼロからの着物と暮らす入門) published in 2008, and reprinted in 2011 by Gentosha. The author, Ishibashi Fujiko’s has a blog in Japanese here: http://www.fuji-peta.com https://www.facebook.com/fujiko.ishibashi  And is on instagram as @petacofuji
I highly recommend getting a copy for your bookshelf. I won’t be scanslating more than 10% of the content.

More from Petako-san - this time on minimum packing for maximum kitsuke play while travelling. (I haven’t translated page 102 mentioned in the text - to save you looking for it here)

Crazily, I translated this back in March - shortly before going into Winter (I’m a Southern Hemispherian).  I am queuing this for June as most of the english speakers I chat to about kimono are Norther Hemisphere based. May this be useful to you as I shiver through the colder months :)  As with all the Petako monthly scanslations so far: This article comes from “From Zero Knowledge - Kimono and Living Primer.”  (知識ゼロからの着物と暮らす入門) The author, Ishibashi Fujiko’s has a blog in Japanese here: http://www.fuji-peta.com https://www.facebook.com/fujiko.ishibashi

Want to up your Juban game? Have you considered false sleeves so you can mix and match colours to suit your kitsuke without having to have a zillion juban?  Petako-san has your back with this cool advice: magic tape and small bits of fabric. This article comes from “From Zero Knowledge - Kimono and Living Primer.”  (知識ゼロからの着物と暮らす入門) The author, Ishibashi Fujiko’s has a blog in Japanese here: http://www.fuji-peta.com https://www.facebook.com/fujiko.ishibashi And is on instagram as @petacofuji

A great idea for revamping a stained or tired of juban using small pieces of fabric you might have collected without knowing what to use them for. This article comes from Ishibashi Fujiko’s “From Zero knowledge - Kimono and Play primer.”, the sequel to the text from which I am currently posting scanslations. The author/illustrator, Ishibashi Fujiko’s has a blog in Japanese here: http://www.fuji-peta.com https://www.facebook.com/fujiko.ishibashi

I am on a bit of a haneri theme with these scanslations at the moment aren’t I : Some inspiration and direction for making your own haneri designs. This article comes from “From Zero Knowledge - Kimono and Living Primer.”  (知識ゼロからの着物と暮らす入門) The author, Ishibashi Fujiko’s has a blog in Japanese here: http://www.fuji-peta.com https://www.facebook.com/fujiko.ishibashi And is on instagram as @petacofuji She does amazing intricate embroideries that appear to be a combo of hand and machine work.
