Holy shit. This.
Like I am a dude. I have a few female characters for d&d stuff.
And I remember having my woman warrior called a bitch by one player (PLAYER not character). Fun facts: she was respectful to his character (a necromancer). Until his character threatened to resurrect someone she just defeated in an honorable duel 1v1. She never even got to claim a prize. She also had massive PTSD for surviving a war against a much more powerful necromancer (in which her lover died and was turned into undead). And the character knew about the PTSD as by some Wild Magic, he saw her memories.
Even wilder fact, she met the Necromancer that was responsible for the war and she went off on him. He apologized that his deeds caused her to go through that. (Not wanting repentance for his deeds, but that she was a bystander in all this.)
I couldn't imagine what women PLAYERS go through if that is how I'm treated when playing a woman character. And this was a meatspace table too

Siobhan speaking on something very important. I don't think it's been a problem so far in the d20 community,YET. I know it keeps happening in the Critrole fandom.
Let's remember to support women identifying roleplayers, and their choices!

I remember that in senior year I wasn't applying to college scholarships as much as my parents wanted to.
I was taking 4 AP classes (2 of which I skipped the prereqs for because the teachers wanted me in their classes again. This was Calc BC (skipped AB) and Physics C (never took a physics class before). As well as a college level thesis.
So my dad had a few too many beers one Saturday. (His version of drunk is running his mouth and saying stupid (funny) shit.) He threatened to pull his support of me going to college because he didnt think I was taking it seriously. I exploded in pure rage and anger at him and replied that I would go with or without his help.
That was the wakeup call both parents needed from me. I didnt get many scholarships, but all my AP classes cut out over a semester of work. And that thesis is what got me my current job.
Moral of the story: Just because your child isnt fully developed, they might be planning things years farther down than you are.
based on a true story

Add Abrams and Rian Johnson to the list.
Fucking hacks
In the midst of this discussion on the current “no spoilers” climate, I keep remembering what happened when the Gravity Falls fandom predicted the existence and importance of Ford’s character. You know what Alex Hirsch and the show’s creative team did? They bumped Ford’s introduction up by a few episodes (mid-S2 as opposed to the planned season finale), but what they didn’t do was trash his entire character and thereby waste 30 episodes of buildup.
And when Ford walked on screen for the first time and revealed who he was, I remember the fandom losing our minds. Because we had picked up on the foreshadowing! All our theories had been proven right! And now we were getting the catharsis of payoff. Anyone who was there can testify that Alex Hirsch did troll us with fake spoilers, but he wasn’t upset whenever we put together the clues he was leaving for us. In fact, he actively encouraged it! And that’s what I don’t get about writers like the Russos and D&D - if you’re going to punish your fans for interacting with your work, why are you in the business of creating?

Hey everyone! A lot of people were liking this old headcount post but, since that post was created late September and we’re almost midway through December, I figured a fresh count was in order. So, without further adieu:
Please like/reblog this post if you’re an active FINAL FANTASY XIV blog looking for other people to interact with! Whether you mostly post aesthetic, screenshots, rp, etc; as long as you’re a roleplayer, you like the game and you’re looking for new people to follow, this post is for you! By looking through the notes, you should be able to get a quick snapshot of what players are out there and what content might be of interest to you.
This way the headcount should be a little more up to date and reflective of people looking for content, rather than a post that is close to three months old. Hopefully this will be of more use!

At this point Luke had been trained by both Ben Kenobi and Yoda.
Much like his father, he has a bit of a Force Rage button which was definitely pushed at this stage.
Darth Vader had also been seen as a legitimate threat to Luke, Leia, Han and co. This was looked over because we watched a flawed, whiny child put his life on the line against an unstoppable killing machine.
It's called good storytelling that Rey never got. I dont even blame Rey/Daisy Ridley for the shit she gets. Rey had such amazing potential. Even other parts of Disney shows she should have had some training before clashing with Kylo.
people really complaining about rey’s backflip being unrealistic, as if this never happened:

Then you're going to run into the wood elves or those that have spent centuries travelling.
Imagine the face of a Dwarf when some battle-hardened elf downs a Stein of their liquor, looks them dead in the eye, and says, "I asked for alcohol not spicy fruit juice."
......... different fantasy races should be impacted differently by each other's alcohol
no more if this "fine elvin wine" shit, I am going to personally write a fantasy setting in which every human knows that elf booze tastes and feels like fantasy la croix. there's barely even a flavor, and you'd need to drink a few to even get tipsy.
meanwhile, every human with a lick of common sense knows that you need to plan accordingly if you're going to be drinking dwarven liquor, because it hits you hard and fast and you'll lose feeling in your legs faster than you thought was physically possible. the hangovers are the stuff of legend.

Wait, wait, wait
Is this why "geeks" and "nerds" get so fucking uppity when women have the same interest? Because it makes their dicks smaller?
It makes sense but pisses me the fuck off.
I think my biggest “huh” moment with respect to gender roles is when it was pointed out to me that your typical “geek” is just as hypermasculine as your typical “jock” when you look at it from the right angle.
As male geeks, a great deal of our identity is built on the notion that male geeks are, in some sense, gender-nonconformant, insofar as we’re unwilling or unable to live up to certain physical ideals about what a man “should” be. Indeed, many of us take pride in how putatively unmanly we are.
Viewed from an historical perspective, however, the virtues of the ideal geek are essentially those of the ideal aristocrat: a cultured polymath with expertise in a vast array of subjects; rarefied or eccentric taste in food, clothing, music, etc.; identity politics that revolve around one’s hobbies or pastimes; open disdain for physical labour and those who perform it; a sense of natural entitlement to positions of authority (“you should be flipping my burgers!”); and so forth.
And the thing about that aristocratic ideal? It’s intensely masculine. It may seem more welcoming to women on the surface, but - as recent events will readily illustrate - this is a facade: we pretend to be egalitarian because it suits our refined self-image, but that affectation falls away in a heartbeat when challenged.
Basically, the whole “geeks versus jocks” thing that gets drilled into us by media and the educational system isn’t about degrees of masculinity at all. It’s just two different flavours of the same toxic bullshit: the ideal geek is the alpha-male-as-philosopher-king, as opposed to the ideal jock’s alpha-male-as-warrior-king. It’s still a big dick-measuring contest - we’re just using different rulers.
