“FUCK THE NEIGHBORHOOD! YOU HEAR THAT, YOU RICH, MILQUETOAST SHITS?! THAT’S THE SOUND OF FREEDOM!!” Cackling, Teddy whips his Camaro out of Jamie’s community and guns for the potholed-to-hell, disrepaired backroads of the city’s low-income district, staying within a reasonable (but still rather heart-pounding) speed on the way there.
His hair is a mess by the time they get there, but he’s still grinning like crazy, slowing down to a cruising speed while looking briefly to Jamie, his mane of copper draped partway over his face like a Scottish Cousin It. “What’s your limit today, Faerie Boy?”
Poor Jamie looks like he’s going to become one with the car seat. Dear god, he doesn’t want to be seen by his neighbors right now. He agreed that the HOA was overbearing, but this wasn’t the way to express that! His wavy hair doubles in volume in the wind, ending with him looking like a golden cone of cotton candy.
. . . If he looked like much at all. He’s somehow gone almost transparent besides Teddy, the seat and the scene around him visible through him like looking through a sheer curtain. He hasn’t seemed to have noticed. “A-aaah-ahh- m-money? Money limit? Ah-”

“It’s Brenda!”
[The young girl said, glad to hear that this kind stranger would take her to the library.]
“Brenda Stanford. What’s your name?”
[Sometimes, Brenda liked to play a little mental game to look at people’s faces and try to guess their name. She never actually said what she thought, of course. That’d be rude. This kind stranger made her think, he’d be something like a… ‘Tobias’. Something dignified yet easy on the ears.]
“Thank you very much for helping me.”
He smiles softly, cheeks pushing up his eyes so they close upwards. “Brenda is such a pretty name. Mine’s Jamie. Jamie Allen.” A far cry from Tobias, but it matches his sunny look, if not all the dignity she sees in her mind’s eye. His hand reaches out to her, fingers slender and hands soft. “Here, hold my hand while we go find the library, okay?”
Hopefully that should keep her from wandering again; he wouldn’t say that, but she seemed the type to be easily distracted by something. “Did you come out here to get inspired? I saw your notebook, do you like to draw?”
He hopes she does. Art would be an easy conversation for him.

“Mmhm. You haven’t really gone shopping for yourself, though, have you, momma’s boy? C’mon, then.” Looking at Jamie clutching onto the seat, Teddy grins wildly as he looks back behind him to better ease out, and once they’re on the street proper, he aggressively yanks the stick back into Drive, and flexes his fingers on the wheel, before he tears out like there’s demons on his ass, and yet he doesn’t squeal the tires.
“So, you wanna rip up the back roads, Jamie? Nobody out there gonna give a rat’s ass as long as we keep to the asphalt.”
The way he acts, looks down and half sulks, it looks like he’s been accused of something almost. “N-no, I haven’t-” And he’s not good enough with comebacks yet to have one ready before he’s thrown back into his seat, yelping. As ready as he tries to be, he never is.
“Yeah, the back roads, but please not my neighborhood..!” It’s not like he was embarrassed, but his dad, another car nut, only got away with it in the HOA because he basically ran the board himself. Hell, he had clearances for helicopters and things...

“Out… here?”
[The girl blinks in confusion, as if she didn’t know why would he be concerned for her. However, once she take a good look all around her, her eyes grow wider and wider as she realizes something quite important. She doesn’t quite know where she is.]
“Oh no! This can’t be–!”
[She’d be freaking out more, but fortunately the kind stranger’s smile does give her some reassurance.]
“Do you know where the British Library is, mister? If I get there, I should be able to get back my bearings but…i-if you’re busy I can look for someone else to help me!”
Somehow the slow realization of hers is familiar. Jamie remembers being a wanderer of a child himself. The memories make him sweat just a little. But he figures it makes him suited for the job as anyone else. “The British Library...” Standing back to his full height now, he looks around to get his own bearings- he hadn’t been in the country that long, but when he listens for the word ‘library’ in the static, things suddenly begin to make more sense.
“No, no, I’m not busy!” he half laughs, stooping down again if not all the way. “I can walk with you there, it’s no problem. But could you tell me your name?

cedarscentedofficer:
He puts his phone away as Jamie comes out, short, dark claws tapping on his steering wheel as he excitedly waits for him to take shotgun.
And once he does, he meets Jamie with a wicked grin. “Well, you ought to be. You’re what, twenty, now? Old enough to be making your own wardrobe decisions.” Something he adhered to; Teddy himself is wearing his usual studded black leathers and roughed-up band tee, his entirely too extra boot pulling off the brake once he shifts gears and pulls them back out of the driveway.
“Mall on the other end of town. We’re gonna raise hell between here and there, you ready?”
Jamie reaches up to the side of his face, scratching his soft jawline with only one finger. “I mean, I pick some things out myself..!” By leaning over his mother’s shoulder in front of a computer and pointing at the screen. He should probably be moved out by now, at least into a dorm, but his parents insisted on him staying home with them until he finished school.
Raise hell? Jamie sweats a little bit on the back of his neck, but he nods with an excited and nervous smile, reaching down on either side of the seat to grab the frame underneath once he buckled in. “I-I am now!”

continued from here
Jamie himself is rather absorbed in his own book- a sketchbook, propped up somewhat awkwardly on his arm as he stares out at a simple but serene city scene. So he startles when he’s bumped into, but he only jolts slightly, composing himself quickly.
This girl- was she lost?
He stoops down to one knee, his smile bright and sweet. “No no, you’re okay!” Tucking his own book under his arm, he extends a hand for her to take. “Are you alright out here on your own?”

Rowdy as he is, he’s got all the windows rolled down and his radio playing old rock, as he waits for his text to be replied to, head gently bobbing along. And he grins like a lunatic when he is responded to, entirely too excited.
[Txt: Faerie] > Nothing sunny [Txt: Faerie] > I’m curious how you look in things that aren’t so… [Txt: Faerie] > Cotton candy
As cute as Jamies’ pastels are, Teddy can’t deny he’s curious how Jamie would look if he…restyled a bit.
[Txt: Faerie] > Now that I think on it I’m honestly just in for seeing you try on cute pants [Txt: Faerie] > Sorry. Too strong?
Cotton candy is exactly how he looks when he comes out the front door, not locking it back behind himself with a key but instead with his phone. Pastel sweater, khakis, he looks like he should be serving coffee at a country club.
But he hops into Teddy’s little disaster on four wheels with the utmost of comfort, jittering a little in his seat. “Y-you’re fine, Ted! I’m just not used to clothes shopping..” He’s all ablush, reaching up to scratch gently at the inhibitors on either side of his head. He’s not used to physical shopping of most kinda, really, still used to his mother doing the shopping, or just ordering online.

@faesthete
The unmistakable RRRRRRRRRRMMMMN of the six-cylinder Teddy has stuffed into his classic Camaro (a museum piece, really, it’s a wonder the damn thing was salvagable) snarls in the driveway of Jamie’s house, an attempt to prompt him to come out.
If he doesn’t hear him, which is possible, considering the ridiculous size of it, Teddy sends him a few texts.
[Txt: Faerie] > Get in loser we’re going joyriding [Txt: Faerie] > And getting you some new clothes
Teddy’s car has around a 50/50 chance of spooking the poor boy or exciting him when he pulls up, and today, it’s the former. He jolts a bit from his reading nook, and thumb between the pages, shoves his face up to the window to try and see into the driveway. His phone going off only makes things more certain.
It takes him a moment to get his shoes on and to make his way down to the front door in a house this big.
[Txt: Red] > What’s wrong with my clothes? [Txt: Red] > Mom just bought me my new spring set...

--- As I went on, still gaining velocity, the palpitation of night and day merged into one continuous greyness; the sky took on a wonderful deepness of BLUE, a splendid luminous color like that of early twilight; the jerking sun became a streak of fire, a brilliant arch, in space; the moon a fainter fluctuating band; and I could see NOTHING of the stars, save now and then a brighter circle flickering in the blue.
As the minuteness of the parts formed a great hindrance to my speed, I resolved, contrary to my first intention, to make the being of a GIGANTIC stature; that is to say, about eight feet in height, and proportionally LARGE. After having formed this determination, and having spent some months in successfully collecting and arranging my materials, I began.
Looking to the sky, the astronomer shook his head, his smile lacking of humor. " I shall see the face of Mars, anyhow, and that will be a rare experience. It seems to me that a view of the heavenly bodies through a fine telescope, as well as a tour round the world, should form a part of a liberal education. " But he knew the systems would never implement these wistful and ambitious ideas.
Owari wa hajimari, hajimari wa owari.
Though the gravity still dragged at him, his muscles were making great efforts to adjust. After the daily classes he no longer collapsed immediately into bed. Only the nightmares got worse.
