“That’s good! I feel like with all the money floating around here, people don’t take time to appreciate the simple stuff.” Unzipping her backpack, she pulled out a medium sized rolled up outdoor throw. She flapped it in the wind once, twice, to make sure it was rolled out and then laid it on the ground. Sitting on one side, she pulled her pack towards her. Ainsley set it on her lap, staring inside as she began to pull out the ziploc bagged sandwiches, and two bananas. “You get what I mean, don’t you? People think it’s all parties, and Gucci, and stumbling into some random Uber late Friday night.” Ainsley chuckled. She wasn't that far off herself. With all her items unpacked, she set her water on her lap, her knees up as she idly sipped from the straw. “I’ll take a rice krispy treat if you can find one. I haven’t had one of those in a few months. Boarding school meals and all.”

“This looks like a good spot. Let’s stop here.” 

With a huff, Ainsley adjusted the medium canvas backpack on her shoulders. She reached back to take her water bottle from the metal clasp it hung off of. “I know hiking isn’t for everyone, but there are some real pretty views near the school. Just takes a bit of work to get to them.” With her free hand, she gestured to the creek that laid right in front of them. Ainsley herself was quiet as she gulped down her water. The woods and trails near the school had always been her favorite places, especially her favorite study spots. For good days such as these, going to the meadow at the end of the trail meant not only good conversation, but good food too. Setting her water on the ground, she pulled her rucksack off her shoulders and held it up. “I hope you like PB&Js! They were the easiest to pack.”

Tyler stopped when the girl did, grabbing his own water bottle to take a couple chugs from it. He nodded along with the girl’s words and smiled. “Nah, I get it. I like hiking,” he assured her, snapping his bottle closed and slipping it back into his own backpack. He had gone on plenty a hike to explore map out the area around the school in his years at Luxor. “Sometimes it’s the only fun thing to do. Plus, helps clear your head, with the views and the exercise,” he agreed with the other. “Who doesn’t love a good PB & J?” he asked. “Better than the protein bars I’ve got in my backpack,” he replied with a laugh. “I probably have one of those rice krispie treats too, I think I packed some for Trini last time…” he said, rifling around his backpack to see if he still had one in there.

Ainsley: how could i not? but look, you've grown for it. it's made you a better person. i think you'll know when it's the right time. trust.

Ainsley laid sprawled out on the couch, idly scrolling instagram whilst Ceci dressed. She had airpods in, half listening to the conversation while Cecilla was in the closet. Now that she was out, Ainsley sat up and took a single airpod out.  “I know you really really want your mom to be out here with you.” Ainsley bit her lip. She had to remember it wasn’t as easy for everyone’s parents to just come to the school every other day. “If she can’t make it though, we’ll just have to make it a party to remember. Party all weekend, like you said. Rent a car, sneak out one night, and head down to the beach. We can even get a plug and get some smirnoffs or something. I know somebody. I wouldn’t let your birthday be a bore, sis.”

“Ok.. but seriously.” Cecilia stepped out of her bedroom closet squeezing into her jeans, as she spoke to the other, “It’s like one month away and my mom hasn’t even mentioned anything about it.” The dark hair girl huffed as she did a small squat to ensure she fit perfectly into the bottoms, “I’m not trying to be dramatic or anything, but I’m going to be seventeen. It’s my first birthday away from home, like duh I want her to surprise me and fly out here, but she needs to just get the hint because I’m not going to tell her I want her to surprise me. If that’s the case she can just stay at home and I’ll party all weekend.”
