Genuine SVSSS angst thoughts, but I've always been curious about what SQQ would have done if, in his downward spiral (Jinlan city arc would be BRUTAL for this, but I'm thinking during Plantzun era), Binghe had actually killed LQG. On one hand, that's the plot fulfilled. LQG was always meant to die in the story and nobody is allowed to challenge the protagonist. On the other hand...LQG is the one character that broke SQQ's preconceived notions from the start. He's SQQ's first plot-breaking action, a true test of his ability to be OOC, proof that he CAN change things. He's also SQQ's friend. SQQ runs away from his feelings until he can't, doesn't take the story seriously (or thinks he doesn't) until it's clear to him that it hurts others, constantly reinforces and justifies his unwillingness to do anything about The Problem of Luo Binghe with idea that the world will bend to LBH's whims and there's nothing he can do to stop it unless it's to help Binghe or himself specifically. He's never had to face losing another person through that passiveness, through The Plot as he allows it, through LBH as the vessel carrying out that loss. What kind of mental gymnastics would he have to do to get over it, knowing that he emotionally processes pretty much 0% of what happens to him? Could he even manage that? Given a redo, what would he do? He can't convince LQG to NOT protect him, not after saving his life, and not saving his life is unacceptable. He can't leave LQG's rescue to anyone else, knowing that it's part of The Plot that he'll die! He can't run away - the system will never allow that, role-locked as he is. Just SQQ trying to play 5D chess against The System, having absolutely no idea that LBH never wanted him to die to begin with, making incredibly convoluted choices to keep LQG alive...and, as a consequence, himself (not even temporarily dying!!), since the idiot will apparently DIE for him. Force-grinding LQG's cultivation with wife plots and artifacts and eye-twitching intensity as LQG begins to suspect that there's something SQQ is afraid of.

I think the fact that Binghe has curly hair in the Fanart design of him is PEAK. For one, the ideal standard of beauty that you’d expect out of a harem protagonist is silky straight hair!
It’s the beauty ideal in China. I have naturally curly hair inherited from my mother, and instead of being taught how to bring out my curls at the hairdresser, my hair is “frizzy,” and I get pushed into getting a straight perm.
My mom, likewise, has always hated her curly hair and was dismayed (dismayed!) when my hormones caused my hair texture to change from straight to her curls.
For two, the idea of Shen Qingqiu adoring it would fix me, I’m sure.
Your insecurity is something he adores about you. He makes poetry likening it to sheep’s wool, he runs his hands through it and helps you maintain it. Something most people consider a flaw, and that doesn’t even occur to him.
It’s so radical. It comes naturally to him!
No wonder Binghe is insane about that old man.

is there anything in the text that says shen yuan was a NEET before he transmigrated, or is that just a headcanon given since there is little to no information about his pretransmigration life? bc like. otherwise i would say biology/ecology major (college student who doesn’t study as much as he should) given the way he nerds out about monsters
As far as I can remember it's heavily implied he was because he says in his previous life he idled away all his time
Tumblr media
We can assume he was unemployed (his brothers were set to take care of their business) but i can't speak for education or other responsibility he might have had
However we know that he's an unreliable narrator and downplays his achievements. He says he was "idling away" while running a peak
Tumblr media
So it's very possible he was actually doing a lot of work and just. Didn't acknowledge it as work because he's just a nice guy who likes helping people out . We really will never know

shen yuan: i can pick stats? cool! let's put strength on 75 (is that out of 100? system?), agility on 80, speed 50, that's probably normal, right? let's do fighting 90! imma be so cool. ohh, healing powers? equip at 30! animal handling? that's a thing??? max!! max!! i want to see all the beasts!!!
shen yuan: alright, i think that was it. i'm ready now
[loading... loading... loading...]
shen yuan: anyway, system, what would be the average for cultivators? in terms of the stats you gave me
system: average cultivator strength, 10. average speed, 7. average fighting, 11. average animal handling, 1. average healing, [only applicable on healer-types, 4].
shen yuan: wat
Accidentally became a god SY au:
Shen yuan dies and gets transported to a weird in between of worlds. Obviously he is panicked thinking that a fu€king meat bun killed him, when the system appears and explains he is going to become SQQ.
SY starts to screech and fight against the system, because he does NOT want to become a human stick!!! So the system finally decides that it’s going to fw SY in a different way…
So SY gets to customize his own character!! But the system won’t let him choose normal colored hair… whatever!! what awesome and cool character doesn’t have some unique colored hair! So he chooses white, because it can go with any clothes AND it looks cool and elegant. He just sets his other settings to random (the system removes the max on his stats…)
So a white haired SY gets transported to a random forest in PIDW… and when he tries to approach any village, they panic thinking he is a demon… he isn’t!! So to prove he isn’t a demon he uses his strangely large amount of Qi to heal injuries and other such things…
Suddenly the towns folk have done a 180 and are treating him so well!! He is being given food, a place to stay, and any trashy novel he wants!!
Little does he know they all basically worship him and the ground he walks on…
I’m not sure where in the time line this would be, or what ship I should do… but honestly it’s kinda open.
(I have more of an urge to make this one than the other ones I have made… what do y’all think I should do for the timeline and ship?)

he'd have a whole rant in his head about "facial harmony" and how actually technically stronger jawlines are more attractive than softer rounder ones, and liu qingge has a beauty mark under his eye that liu mingyan doesn't have, and also he'd reason that liu qingge has the muscled lean body type to "give contrast" and the broad shoulders to tie it all nicely together, and also he's tall!
but really it's just his preference for masculine men with pretty faces who are taller than him
Shen Qingqiu gets a look at Liu Mingyan’s veil less face and is disappointed she’s not as pretty as her brother.

i love writing about shen qingqiu flirting with people but not knowing he does it, and never realizing what effect it has on people or when they flirt back
for instance, he doesn't quite have a grasp on the usage of flowery, poetic speech yet, so he uses it in ways that are more suggestive than he means to. he compliments liu qingge's fighting style but the words he uses are "dancing like a snow lotus in the high mountain gales" and liu qingge turns so red shen qingqiu thinks he has a fever. he also said to wei qingwei that if only he was better a guqing player he would capture the sound of his laughter (wei qingwei has a boisterous laugh and this was meant to be teasing) and wei qingwei lay awake for three nights thinking about that.
he'd try to banter with yue qingyuan in the sort of taunting style of the original sqq, but in doing so accidentally strays into "shixiong should just bring his pillow and move in with how much he visits" "well if shidi insists" territory, and he doesn't realize it.
he pretends to be jealous when liu qingge goes on a mission with someone else, saying things like "shidi is having so much fun with [other peak lord], am i not enough? has my heart been traded for another?" with a fake pout that's supposed to be playful, but that inadvertently causes liu qingge to only accept missions with him or by himself, and of course shen qingqiu keeps digging this hole deeper by then acting flattered when liu qingge invites only him to the hunt.
he also definitely goes a little shakespearean sometimes to be dramatic, but people take that serious too. one time shang qinghua was too busy to read/write with him, so he complained to whoever listened, "the cruelty of his words have ripped my heart asunder, never again will i feel joy from what has now turned to sorrow", and two days later shang qinghua asks him what the hell he said to make half of the peak lords show up angry at his house like scorned lovers
in my mind he has also made a "chain me to the bed to have your way" kind of comment about his without a cure treatment, because mu qingfang added twenty new concoctions to the list that are yucky and shen yuan doesn't like yucky things, but even he was like "hm" about that and their next appointment was a little awkward.

from what i've been able to gather about ancient chinese messenger systems, they used different ways of delivery depending on the distance. the most basic form was by personal courier on foot, cart or horseback (commonly used by individuals, families, small businesses), the courier was mostly a personal servant or messenger.
for official couriers employed by the military or government there was a system of "postal stations" where couriers could rest and change horses (like the preserved yucheng postal stop!). these couriers sometimes had soldiers escorting them based on how important the message was.
i haven't been able to find much about pigeon post in ancient China, but there are some sources that mention them, especially in the military, and the use of birds and pigeons as a method of communication dates back to the persians, so it's possible! pigeons are fast and they can navigate well. the downside is that pigeons can't carry that much, so the message would have to be small, and they can get killed by birds of prey or simply leave.
as for the xianxia setting, you can use "special" horses that can run faster/longer, or couriers that travel by sword! depending on what setting you're going for, sometimes the sword alone can also carry a message (so without a person on top of it) by attaching it to the hilt or enscribing it onto the blade. magical beasts and spirit birds are also often used, like phoenixes or other mythical creatures (or a spiritual pigeon!)
other xianxia methods can also be transmission talismans (paper or jade talismans imbued with spiritual energy that can send voice memos), illusory projections (think star wars holograms), mirror communication (basically zoom but with a mirror), or dream transmissions. these do require being able to manipulate spiritual energy.
for something with a few hours delay i think the spiritual beast/bird would fit you best (though, depending on the distance, a sword courier could also have it done pretty quick!), since most of the others are pretty much direct communication. i hope this helped!<3
xianxia nerds i require your aid for a fanfic... did they have delivery pigeons in ancient china? or is there some magical method that can send letters with only a few hours delay?
