#27 Quarantine/Online Learning

I am honestly devastated that now we have to do online learning because I loved waking up and getting ready to physically go to school because I enjoyed learning and was happy that I got to see my friends since I would practice after school a lot. Now that it’s all taken away from me, I am very sad because I can’t see everyone everyday, and school really gave me a purpose. I mean I am thankful I can continue to learn online, but it just doesn’t feel the same and I feel like the seniors this year were really robbed from everything. I hope this pandemic ends soon because I’m really hoping that the sooner it is over, the sooner we can go back to school possibly and continue on with life normally. Quarantine is high key taking a toll on me because I used to be super busy and always out doing stuff and I couldn’t wait to come home and rest. Now that I am constantly home, I want to get out and do stuff because even though i enjoy staying home, I can’t enjoy it because now I am being forced to stay home and not have the ability to go out and function outside of my home.

#26 Fairy Tail Main Theme

Since the manga is finished, they are currently making an anime of Fairy Tail and are actually almost done with the anime. I have been watching it as I read the story and I also am still watching it since I have finished the story. Fairy Tail has many songs composed for the anime, but the one that always hits me the most is the Fairy Tail Main theme by Yasuharu Takanashi. There is no lyrics, it’s just music, but the reason why I like it so much because it is always played during an intense scene, when someone is saying something very meaningful, the life lessons are being applied, and/or when the guild comes together as a family to attack their enemies or just anything in general. Basically this song signifies unity of the guild or just any good that is occuring in that moment of time. It impacts me because whenever I hear this song, it instantly reminds me of the life lessons that Fairy Tail has taught me and the importance of unity whether it be with friends or family, just the idea of coming together in order to do or feel good with others. I probably sound like a big nerd, but this story honestly really impacted me and I’ve gotten very attached to it.

#25 Alvarez Empire Arc Plot

Fairy Tail is made up of a total of 21 arcs that are connected to each other in some way. I wish I could go through all the arcs, but it would be very long and way too complicated to try and shorten it, so I will explain the last arc of the story and my favorite arc as well. Before I explain this arc, I will give you some background information about a very important enemy in this arc. There is an infamous dark and “evil” wizard known as Zeref and is known to kill people without touching them. Hundreds of years ago, Zeref was an ordinary student at a school learning about magic. During that time, he lost his brother and began to ask his professors about magic that could bring back the dead. The professors told him that dark magic was a taboo and life or death was not to be tampered with. Zeref was desperate to bring his brother back and ended up developing a dark magic that could bring back the dead and create demons of sorts in a book called the Book of Zeref. His two strongest demons that he created to practically be invincible were Acnologia, an evil dragon and E.N.D, which remained unknown because no one knew who or what E.N.D was. However the consequence of this power was that he would become invincible and everything he cared for would die if it were in a certain distance from him. Zeref ended up becoming emotionless in order to not kill any life if it came in contact with him and just continued to live through the years. One day he grew tired of being invincible and started to create demons that could hopefully kill him and end his time of being invincible. Now that the past is covered, let’s talk about the Alvarez Empire. The Alvarez Empire is a mixture of Zeref’s demons and other dark wizards that look up to Zeref. Their goal was to retrieve a magic called Fairy Heart to help them destroy Acnologia and start a war between a dragon, Acnologia, and humans. To make a long story short, Fairy Tail fights the Alvarez Empire to stop them from taking the Fairy Heart and we find out one of the members of the Alvarez Empire is Erza’s biological mother and she ends up fighting her, but her mom ends up stabbing herself because even though she had so much resentment for her and killed many people, she loved her daughter and couldn’t kill her so she ends up killing herself. We also find out that Natsu is E.N.D or Etherious Natsu Dragneel, and his Zeref’s “dead” brother. Apparently their parents died in an accident along with Natsu, and once he revived Natsu, he gave him to Igneel to take care of him instead. Natsu battles with Zeref and tries to kill him, but as he battles him, he can’t kill him. Happy ends up interfering in the battle and stops Natsu from using his E.N.D power to kill Zeref because if he kills Zeref then all of Zeref’s demons, including Natsu, will die with him and Happy doesn’t want to lose his best friend. Natsu passes out and we find out he is dying because he has some kind of magic tumor in him that is killing the human side of himself. He is saved by an enemy wizard that was captured and was willing to make his tumor so small that it would never harm again. As Natsu was healed, Zeref ends up obtaining Fairy Heart, which we find out is the First master’s body, Mavis, surrounded in a crystal and she is between life and death. By having the Fairy Heart, Zeref will use this power to initiate Neo Eclipse, which would give him the power to manipulate space and time in order to kill Acnologia from their world. As all of this is happening, the rest of Fairy Tail is fighting with Acnologia and trying to get him in a portal that is between space and time to get rid of him as well, but their portal is closed because Zeref opened up a different portal at the Fairy Tail guild. Natsu begins to attack Zeref again and is actually starting to do damage to him, but Mavis ends up interfering, her body was removed from the crystal and she was still alive, and tells Zeref that she knows how to get rid of his curse and end his invincibility. Turns out back when Mavis was alive, she would meet with Zeref and they were in love with each other. However, Mavis back then found a way to “break the curse” but it ended up killing her instead of Zeref because she didn’t “love” him. At the time, Mavis didn’t really understand love and her feelings towards Zeref, but as time went on, she realized and understood her feelings and actually really loved Zeref. So Mavis ends up kissing Zeref and breaks his curse, but they both end up dying together. Once Zeref died, Natsu was supposed to die, but it turns out that Lucy found Natsu’s book, the Book of Zeref for E.N.D, and rewrote the book to where Natsu wouldn’t die if Zeref died. The portal at Fairy Tail closes and the one where everyone else is with Acnologia reopens and they are able to get Acnologia into that dimension. In order to keep Acnologia in that dimension, all the dragon slayers come together to weaken Acnologia to the point where he wouldn’t chase after them and they could get out of the dimension and close the portal before Acnologia can get back up. They ended up defeating Acnologia and finally the world is in peace. Everyone is happy at the end and what I found really heart-warming was that Zeref and Mavis were reborn into their world as normal wizards and were finally together happily and peacefully. A lot happened in this arc so I hope I covered mostly everything, but honestly I loved reading this story and I’m excited to hear that they are making a new series and continuing with these characters, but for a different quest and reason.

#24 Frozen 2

I recently watched Frozen 2 because I can’t get the songs out of my head and they have been stuck in my head since the movie has come out. Honestly what I really liked about this movie is that they provided a lot more background of the past compared to the first movie and they overall gave the kingdom and the characters more of a background story that people would be interested in. Also the songs in this movie hit a little different because of their meanings and potentially the style of the songs as well. This movie ended up answering a lot of questions I had from the first movie because honestly I was confused and interested in knowing the parent’s past and their childhood, but that information wasn’t provided for us in the first movie. However, I think they did that in order to allow themselves to create another movie and get more money as well from Frozen products.

Sadly, the only thing that is always mentioned in our news, in the devastating news of the coronavirus and the lives it has taken. Ever since the coronavirus has spread, over 30,000 people have died because of this virus and hundreds and thousands of people are currently battling the disease. The coronavirus continues to attack people and make them fall incredibly ill, doesn’t matter what your age is, it is affecting everyone. The only good news we really have is that drugs have been donated from the government that could possibly help with the treatment of COVID-19. I really hope this pandemic will end soon because I don’t want anymore lives taken nor be stuck in my home for the rest of this year without being able to go out and see friends or take in fresh air while just outside in general.

#22 Life Lessons in Fairy Tail

Throughout the whole story of Fairy Tail, it constantly incorporates 5 main life lessons through characters as a way to show the audience of what to do and not to do in life. The first life lesson that they incorporate is to fight for what you believe in. A character they use a lot to show this life lesson is Natsu Dragneel because not only is he hard-headed, but he has a strong passion when it comes to protecting those he loves and what he believes in, especially against villains. The second main life lesson in this story is to learn from your mistakes. One of the characters, Laxus, was part of the Fairy Tail guild, however he started causing a lot of trouble and ending up becoming evil because he was hungry for power. After Natsu defeated him, Makarov, guild master, forced Laxus to leave the guild. Through the years, you can see Laxus begin to change and become a better person, and eventually they let him back into the guild because he learned from his mistakes. Third main life lesson is that you don’t have to do everything by yourself, it’s ok to do things together to lessen the stress and burden of putting that weight all on your shoulders. This of course is shown with the guild as a whole helping each other out when fighting against villains and overall caring for each other like a family. Another life lesson is that everyone has strengths and weaknesses, but it is ok because that is what makes them special. This is also shown with the guild because everyone has different powers and personalities, just because someone has strong magic, doesn’t mean they are necessarily strong mentally or always powerful in certain situations. If you have weaker magic, doesn’t mean you are a weak person nor does it deem you as ‘useless’ or ‘not good enough’. The final life lesson taught in Fairy Tail is that it’s ok to give up because not everything is worth fighting for or fighting isn’t the best option depending on the situation. An example of this is when Natsu wanted to battle a man, Gildarts, for fun because he wanted to test his powers and prove he was the strongest. However, Gildarts is an extremely powerful wizard and when Natsu saw his power, he was so afraid that he instantly gave up because he had never seen so much power in his life. There are probably more life lessons in this story, however these are the ones that stuck out to me the most and kept repeating themselves throughout the story.

#21 Bangs

Two days ago at 2 in the morning, I decided to finally give myself bangs again. I used to have bangs when I was in 5th grade and freshman year when my hair was growing back, so I already had the natural part for them anyway. The reason why I decided to have them again was because I was always insecure about my forehead and hairline. I always had a larger forehead, but when I lost my hair, it caused my hairline to grow further back than it was originally. Whenever I would look in the mirror, I always felt very self-conscious because I felt like Benjamin Franklin and I thought it was embarrassing because I didn’t want people to think I had a receding hairline in high school. What didn’t help either was that I would wear high and tight ponytails almost everyday because of colorguard practice since we are required to have our hair pulled back. Anyways, during this decision-making process, I was texting friends and some were saying to do it and others said I would regret it. Honestly I didn’t worry because I knew what I wanted, and even if I did regret it, I didn’t worry because we are currently being quarantined and we still have a month until school starts. Overall, I don’t regret anything and I feel so much happier now with myself and I feel better about myself.

#20 Paparazzi

A song that has been stuck in my head for a good week is Paparazzi by Lady Gaga. This song has a few meanings depending on how you look at it. It talks about not only the choice people have to make between fame or love, but also the idea of wanting, to the brink of obsession, actual love and not fake love for the media or society to see. This song impacts society because it shows that everything you see on the media or pictures online, doesn't always tell or show the truth. People could pretend in front of others and act as a totally different person, but behind doors they are someone else and possibly going through things. The media or society acts like paparazzi, everyone is following each other online and sometimes people constantly want to know about people’s lives, especially personal lives. Nowadays, people are obsessed with other people’s lives because some people either desire to have that person’s life or just simply want to know everything. Some people really want to feel loved, so they will do or post anything online in order to receive love, whether it be real or fake.

#19 Erza Scarlet

Erza is a strong, almost motherly, figure in the guild. She has a strict and passionate personality when it comes to someone being in the right and/or wrong. If you are in the wrong, she will not hesitate to let you know, if not punish you for your evil or hurtful actions, especially towards her guild members. Erza has a really long and traumatic backstory to her character and it really matches and explains why she has the personality she has in the book currently. Erza’s mother, Irene, was in love with a dragon that could shapeshift and take a human form as well, however after a fierce battle, he was killed and Erza’s mother lived in despair and pain. Since she was pregnant with Erza, she started to take dragon form while carrying Erza, who was still human in the womb. Irene desperately kept trying to change back into human form, but kept failing, so this ended up slowing down the process of Erza’s birth for 700 years. Once Erza was born, she was left abandoned in an alley of a small town. A loving couple ended up taking her in for a few years, until one day a cult attacked their town and started to take children. Erza ended up saving a little girl by hiding them in a crate, while she was taken away. All the kidnapped children were forced to work on an island and build a tower to “awaken their god”, which was a dark wizard with strong, but potentially evil and deadly power. Erza ends up making friends on the island and decides to rebel one day because they were tired of the punishments and abuse. There was an older man that was very dear to Erza and during the rebellion, she sacrificed himself so Erza wouldn’t get hurt or killed. When she saw him die right before her eyes, she gained her power, which is to be able to requip different armors and weapons to help her in battle and manipulate the power of weapons with telepathy as well, she turned all the enemies' swords against them and attacked all of them at once. Erza split up with everyone else and went to find her good friend, Jellal, in order to destroy the tower. She noticed something was going on in the tower and decided to go in the tower to investigate. When she got to the top, she saw Jellal, but he was acting and sounding different. Turns out he was possessed with the dark magic forming in the tower and he threatened Erza that if she ever returned to destroy the tower after he let her go, he would kill her and everyone that comes with her to destroy the tower. Erza and the others, except Jellal, left the island and went into the town of Fiore, where the Fairy Tail guild would be. Erza found the Fairy Tail guild and they took her in because of the power and pain she had possessed and went through. At first she was very shy and never talked about herself because of everything that happened, until one day she opened up to her guild members and that ended up making her grow closer to everyone and feel like she finally had a family and home once again. Overall, Erza has a very strong background and is pretty much a fan favorite to anyone who reads this story.

#18 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

One of my favorite Disney movies of all time is actually Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. When I was younger, everytime I visited my grandparent’s house, I would watch this movie with my grandpa and we would watch it a good 2-3 times in a row every time. This movie was my grandpa’s favorite movie, so this movie holds a deep place in my heart. Watching this movie, watching it as I type this blog haha, brings me so much nostalgia because I remember us belting out Heigh-Ho and the one song when all the Dwarfs are dancing with Snow White. It’s one of my greatest memories with my grandpa and I will forever cherish those memories and this movie. As a kid I was pretty envious of Snow White because I always wanted to have the ability to sing and be able to talk to animals and I would always think how lucky she was to have those abilities. Of course I knew it was a cartoon, but the idea of containing those skills seemed super cool to me as a kid.

#17 America on Lockdown

Ever since the coronavirus pandemic has reached the U.S, everything has been going downhill for us. Schools and colleges are being closed, so students are forced to go home and have online school instead. Many athletes and other competitive sports are going jobless because their seasons are being cancelled due to the fear. Even stores are closing because they will be the number one spot for the virus to spread. Since this pandemic has everyone riled up, the stores that are open are constantly sold out of toilet paper, water, face masks, clorox wipes, and other household necessities because they fear they won’t be able to leave their house for a long time. International flights are being prohibited for 30 days because the U.S doesn’t want anyone coming in or out that may have or potentially get the coronavirus. It’s crazy how within the span of a few months, a virus could cause mayhem around the whole world and cause mass hysteria. Because of this stupid virus, this year has sucked for me, especially being a senior in high school. My season got cancelled, which was going really well, and I actually enjoyed going to school, so now that both of those are taken away from me, I’ve been super unhappy and feel so empty. I really hope this virus goes away soon because I don’t want to have another sucky year.

#16 Gray Fullbuster

Gray Fullbuster is another wizard that is part of the Fairy Tail Guild and one of the main characters in the story. He is an ice wizard, so his power consists of using ice to make weapons, shields, etc. when in battle. Gray has a friendly feud with Natsu and they treat each other like brothers. They are constantly wanting to fight each other to see who is more powerful and they also enjoy bickering and teasing each other as well. What’s interesting about Gray’s background is that his parents died when he was young and was trained by another ice wizard when he was younger. As he grew up, he came attached to his trainer, however one day there was a monster and she sacrificed herself in order to save Gray and the others that lived in the same town. Ever since that day, Gray made himself become stronger in order to satisfy his trainer and made it his duty to protect the others from harm. We find out later as he is battling a villain, it turns out to be his Dad, who was resurrected by an evil wizard, and he is an ice demon slayer. But since he is an ice demon slayer, he had to make a contract with the demon and the demon ended up tainting his soul and making him have evil thoughts. The only way Gray could “save” his Dad was by killing him and he ended up taking his father’s power. At first the demon would control Gray at times, but he learned to control the demon within him because he had a strong enough willpower to do so. What I love most about Fairy Tail is that each character has a deep background story rather than a generic one.

#15 Knott’s Shortbread Cookies

For the past 3 months, I have been obsessed with Knott's shortbread cookies. You may think I’m weird or crazy, but these cookies are super addicting. In general, I love cookies and my favorite type of cookie is chocolate chip, but these shortbread cookies are ranking second for me. I never ate these cookies as a kid because I thought they looked gross and would taste nasty. So I always avoided them and would watch my mom eat them with a disgusted face because I never understood how the cookie looked delicious. At the beginning of the year, I saw someone from colorguard eating a little bag of the cookies and asked them what is so good about the cookie. They gave me a cookie and I ended up eating it because I thought to myself, “I have never tried this cookie for the 17 years I have been alive, so why not?”. Who knew that eating one cookie could lead me to a new addiction, except not really an addiction because I don’t need the cookies when we run out. However, when we do buy them once in a while, I don’t complain. So in conclusion, I need to stay away from cookies because they end up awakening something inside of me and I can’t stop eating them when they are within range of my hand.

#14 Moon

Recently a boy group, BTS, came out with a new album called MAP OF THE SOUL:7, and the album is based on their hardships through the 7 years that the 7 members have been together. Their album is also based on Carl Jung’s psychology book, Map of the Soul. A song that really sticks out to me and makes me emotional is Moon which is sung by Jin, one of the members in the group. The song is about the idea of someone being everything to someone else and they will do anything for them because they love them so much, whether it be romantically or platonically. The moon and Earth are used as symbols of two people, the moon thinks Earth is its everything because they revolve around Earth only and see it as the most beautiful planet to exist because everything grows and blooms on it. Even though the moon is so far and in a sea of black, it will always be there for Earth and be its light when the Earth is dark. I feel a deep connection to this song because the vocals and melody are so beautiful and you can feel the emotion in his voice even though he is singing in a different language. I know what it feels like to have that person you really love and are there for them whenever they need you. You will drop everything to make sure they are fine before you continue on with your day, and they would do the same for you.

#13 Happy

Happy is Natsu’s sidekick in the story and he is a flying, talking cat. Happy’s personality comes off as naive, not stupid, but also not smart, and overall he is the comic relief and in a way a mentor to Natsu in the story. Even though he comes off as a dumb character, he truly loves and cares about Natsu, and he does show it, but not as often or prominent in certain situations. When they go on missions, Happy doesn’t necessarily worry about Natsu because he knows he is strong enough to handle himself, but deep down he does worry a little because there are times where he knows Natsu can’t handle things on his own, no matter how stubborn he is and says he can “handle it”. Happy’s character fits under the archetype of sidekicks because typically the sidekicks of heroes provide comic relief and in certain situations end up becoming a mentor to the hero. Happy is as irrational as Natsu, but there are times where he has more common sense than Natsu and tries to direct Natsu on a better and more senseful path.

#12 Crazy Competition

Yesterday, both the JV and Varsity color guard teams had a competition at Monrovia High School. What was nice is that even though both teams are separated and are different divisions, we were still bonding together and it felt nice to be able to watch each others shows and help each other out. It was also JV’s first competition ever for winter guard, so they were excited, but also very nervous. Honestly yesterday was crazy for both of us because JV set their floor backwards, so they were confused with their drill spots and where to place equipment on the floor. For us, we had to redo our show three times because the first two times, our music stopped midway so we were counting out loud until they told us to stop. What happened was that the adapter/aux cord for apple phones was accidently taken by another school, so our coach had to use a Samsung adapter to connect his phone to play our music. It was crazy because we never experienced or heard of schools having to stop and redo their performance three times. Even though it was crazy and not our best show, we ended up getting first in our round, so in the end it all worked out. What makes me happy though is that the others schools that were in the gym kept cheering for us each attempt and the higher level schools, open and world class schools, came up to us and told us that we performed so well and were so mature and professional about the situation. To be honest, I was terrified that we weren’t going to be able to perform because after the 2nd attempt, our coach called us over because he wasn’t sure if it was going to work the next time he tried. We begged him to try one more time and thankfully God was on our side at that moment in time.

#11 COVID-19

A major epidemic that has been occurring since December 2019 is the corona virus. So far the corona virus has killed almost 3,000 people and has infected 53 countries. So far about 83,000 cases have been detected and it’s crazy and scary. The World’s Health Organization has declared the corona virus as being a globally “very high” risk versus a globally “high” risk because the outbreaks are fast and huge in numbers. Many people in countries have to flee in fear of getting the infection and potentially dying. Almost all flights, concerts, and cruises traveling between different countries have been cancelled and/or prohibited because of the fear of people spreading the disease further. Each day, more and more people are getting infected and dying because it is spreading so fast. Many medical professionals are trying to find a cure or remedy for this deadly disease, but so far they have not achieved a solution. At first I wasn’t too worried about the disease because it wasn’t in the U.S and there weren’t many cases. Now it’s potentially going to spread to the U.S and there are thousands of people who have the disease and have died from it. Even animals are being infected by the disease, so it’s not only people we have to worry about.
