Kain couldn’t help but notice the look of relief on Hohenheim’s face, and he couldn’t help but a bit curious about it. Though he didn’t ask questions, instead he took a calming breath, before turning back to the breakfast he was preparing. He was relieved that the other didn’t seem to be upset about the night, and he could only hope that the other man didn’t have any regrets. Kain knew for a fact that he definitely didn’t, and despite it being his first time he saw no reason to make a huge fuss out of the whole thing.
“Have a seat, it’s almost done.” he said with a soft smile, turning towards the small table, putting a few plates of food down for the other to start eating. He made quick work of preparing the rest of the food, and once it was all in place he took a deep breath and went about getting himself a warm cup of coffee. “What would you like to drink? I have coffee, tea, juice.”
He placed his own cup down at the table and put a few dishes in the sink as he waited for an answer. He found the more he kept his hands busy the less nervous he was. There was a part of him that wanted to ask about the night before, about how the other felt about the whole thing, but he hardly knew if that was appropriate. There was a part of him that was just hoping that maybe the other man would say something about it, anything to know if they were okay, or whether or not anything had changed between the two of them.
Kain knew that he certainly found Hohenheim attractive, and the man was smart and kind. There were quite a number of things he liked about the other, but he know easily he fell for people, and knew just how dangerous that could be. So for the moment he kept all of his feelings to himself, not daring to risk the embarrassment and possible heart break.

The first thing he’s aware of is the feeling of himself breathing. In… Out… In… Out… Pounding headache… In… Out… It’s so bright that he can’t help but throw an arm across his face, complaining gently about how bright the sun is this morning. He knows he’s not in his own bed, as he usually sleeps on the floor when he’s not with someone else, soft beds make his bones ache, though he usually shakes the funk off within a few hours of being up and about.
He’s kind of curious as to the identity of the person who he found it irresistible to go home with last night, after hitting up the local bar. His eyes open up, only to find himself laying alone in the room. He sits up, cringing slightly at the feeling of his hair falling over his back and neck, realizing his hair tye must have come out sometime during the night. Great. He’s left with the question of whether to go out to meet his partner of last night in the nude, or play it safe and find his underwear and maybe his pants and glasses…
He really hates himself sometimes. That he can put himself in these situations and not even know who he slept with. He can feel his chest trying to tighten up, and he shakes himself a little, rolling himself out of bed.
He manages to find his boxers, and his hair tie, which honestly makes him feel a lot better about walking through this as of right now stranger’s house, walking out to here the smells of food lay…. A wash of relief comes over him as he realizes he knows who it is, an answering smile coming to his face.

Kain wasn’t surprised by the question, it was a fair one for someone who had just been beaten up. He was patient, not intending to be run off so easily. He took a deep breath and waited a few minutes, letting the man collect himself a bit more. He wasn’t entirely sure he had a answer to the question, at least not one that really made much sense.
“I suppose not much of anything, other than the knowledge that I didn’t let a beaten man die alone in the cold.” he said with a bit of a shrug. He knew the answer was hardly a decent one, but it was the truth. The thought of just walking away and letting the man either bleed or freeze to death alone just didn’t sit with him well, despite the fact that he was a complete stranger.
Tumblr media
When the other agreed to let Kain help, he smiled softly and slowly took off his black coat. With slow steps he moved forward and gently wrapped his coat around the other man’s shoulders, hoping that it would provide the other some much needed warmth. With that done, he took a deep breath, looking the injured man over once more.
“Do you have a place to stay for the night? If not.. You can come home with me, I can fix up your wounds for you.” If the man refused he would just have to go home and return with some sort of med kit and maybe some food for the other, since he was sure the man wasn’t going to be going anywhere without help, at least not anytime soon.
He can barely see the figure that’s approaching him from how dizzy the beating has made him, or was that blood loss? He doesn’t know. He shakes his head a little, trying to clear it. He reaches up, brushing out blood that had spilled into his eyes, falling heavily against the wall. This body is to weak, he can’t help but feel a flash of resentment towards it.
His eyes are clear enough to see, now, and he notices the soft features of the man in front of him. It does put him at some ease, but he knows that even sweet faces can hide monsters behind them. It seemed like he genuinely wanted to help, but his entire being is yelling at him not to trust him. He spits to the side, a cut in his mouth having filled it with blood while he had tried to gauge the situation.
Tumblr media
“N what’s in it for you? Get ta’ watch another group run in and take it from me or somethin?”
He knows he’s being way to harsh on someone who had extended the offer of help, and he knows he needs it. What if this person decided they had enough, and decided to leave him here? He would probably freeze to death before morning came… His anxiety about being left alone finally overweighs his fear of being used. He’d rather be someone’s pet then all alone. He relaxes a little, trying to breath, and tries again.
     “M’ sorry… A lil’ rattled. If ya’ willin’ ta help me, then I’d… …. … …”
Ugh does he really have to say it? He doesn’t want too…
     “Appreciate it…”

Musician Starter MemeSong: Can You Feel The Love Tonight? - Lion King
It was a beautiful night out, there had been a part of him that had been glad that he had waited to make his way for home until late. Then again he would be lying if he said he hadn’t been waiting until Maes left, just so they could walk together for a little bit. For most of the walk, he found himself just happily walking alongside the other quietly. It was enough just to be around the other, not finding a need to try and fill the silence with small talk.
Tumblr media
As they walked Kain found himself glancing up at the stars quite a few times, just admiring the view. He knew they weren’t nearly as bright as the countryside, but the view he had was perfect enough for him. At some point he began to hum softly, knowing damn well that it couldn’t have sounded that pretty, but he did try.
A few moments more, he found himself being particularly brave, and ever so slowly he gently reached for Maes’s hand, lacing their fingers together. He didn’t want to startle the other, knowing just how bad that could be, so he had given the other enough of a warning. He kept the hold loose enough so that if Maes wanted to yank his hand away, he wouldn’t have to do it violently.
A few seconds more and his humming turned into singing, because there was a bit of a burst in confidence. He smiled up at the other, before stopping enough so he could stand in front of the other. While never missing a word, he moved an arm around Maes’s waist and without much more of a queue, he began to dance taking the lead.
Since dancing was his strong suit he began to dance the other down the street, instead of simply walking. He continued to sing the song, despite how it probably wasn’t completely in tune. He wanted to give them something to dance to, and it was the best he could do.
“Can you feel the love tonight? The peace the evening bringsThe world, for once, in perfect harmonyWith all its living things”

Kain stayed quiet as he listened to Edward, the full weight of what he had managed to blurt out sinking in. He had never confessed to anyone that he loved Edward, not even Riza, the one person he always told everything to. Though it wasn’t like he could take it back, he had to live with his decision. Though as he listened to the other talk, there was a part of him that was a bit relieved that Edward seemed rather unaffected by the information for the most part.
Tumblr media
He listened as Edward tried to explain how his mind currently worked, and there was a part of him that felt bad that the other seemed at such a loss. He couldn’t imagine what it had to feel like to lose the people in his life, to not know who fit where. He was entirely sure something like that would drive him mad, but he had no doubts that Edward would find a way to make the best of the situation, he excelled at it.
He thought about what to say, about what he could do to make the other feel a little better about his situation, but there wasn’t really anything that sounded quite right in his mind. So instead he did the only thing he could think to do, he placed the blankets down on a nearby bench, and pulled Edward into his arms in a warm hug. He wanted to provide the other man at least some comfort, and never once had a hug not been a good source of comfort in his opinion.
“I don’t know what the right thing to say is.. But I can promise you this, I’m right here if you need me. If I bring you any sort of comfort, you are more than willing to use that.”
Caricature Of Intimacy
Edward was astonished to learn that someone who could pull the sort of feelings from him that this man did was under the impression that he didn’t even like him. He didn’t remember why he kept his emotions in check - didn’t remember all the careful walls he put in place to hold people at bay or the reasons why he had built them in the first place. All he knew was what he felt and - right now, he felt as if his heart was being squeezed too tightly.
Tumblr media
And then - Kain told him that he had been in love with him, despite the fact he hadn’t been clear about how he felt. The cost of his sacrifice was now bleeding in front of him, and while some part of him wondered if he would have ever learned this if he hadn’t given up all that he had shared with the other man, the fact he had lost whatever it was that had allowed him to earn such affection was jarring and painful.
His head bowed, unsure what to think about being called a bright light, or strong, or brave - he didn’t feel he was any of those things. What he did know, was that whatever Kain thought - he wasn’t so unforgettable as any other soldier with a knack for something. So he took a breath, exchanging his own honesty for the honesty that had been offered to him.
“My memory is - empty,” He explained, before frowning, “No - that’s not true. I remember - an impossible journey, and so many things that lead to this day - I remember fighting beside people, having conversations with all these complicated feelings but - the people are missing.” He didn’t know how to explain that so he frowned, then,
“Imagine this conversation right now - let’s say it was one I sacrificed. Everything you said? I still remember - but it’s not your voice, it’s Al’s. His is the only voice in my head - and you would….be a white shape, something that. I know is not my brother and yet, I don’t know who to fit there,” There was a tinge of desperation in his tone - would his memory always be like this? Or would he learn, over time, who fit where?
“I don’t remember our conversations but - maybe, in time, I’ll know where you fit in my memory,” Edward whispered, wrapping his arm around his middle to grip the other, giving himself a sense of balance. He felt - vulnerable, and a little. Unsettled.
“I do know - how I feel though, when I see certain faces. There are a lot of people here, that - are strangers. I don’t feel anything, they’re just passers by, and I guess that’s like any stranger you see on the street. But - there are also a lot of faces I see, that make me feel so many things, and it terrifies me because I just don’t know why. Why does that person fill me with fear, and respect, and sadness? Why does that person make me feel at home? All I have are questions, Kain. Questions without - guidance. When I saw you - I felt safe. I didn’t know why. I just knew I could trust you. You felt - important and warm, like some other people do, but without - fear, or pain I didn’t understand. I knew you were someone I felt was a friend and - I don’t know why I never made it clear when I knew you. I don’t know what motivated my silence but - you were important. And - and I’m sorry, that I made you afraid, and that I lost you.”

Musician Starter MemeSong: Walkashame by Meghan Trainor
Tumblr media
Kain’s head was absolutely pounding, it had been far too long since he had managed to get that drunk. He laid there in his bed for a long moment, doing his best to keep his eyes closed as he tried to remember what on earth had possessed him to drink so much the night before. It wasn’t until he heard the distinct sound of someone next to him that he remembered.
Right, I was trying to work up the nerve to talk to Hohenheim..
The thought crossed his mind as he carefully peaked open an eye to find a very nude Van Hohenheim sleeping next to him in the bed. This led to him immediately opening both of his eyes, and looking down at his own state of dress and realizing that he wasn’t wearing anything either. Oh. He could feel his face turn bright red as the realization washed over him.
Kain took a deep breath as he tired to ignore his hangover for just a moment as he could figure out what to do with himself and the new found information. Though the more the thought about it, he found that he didn’t regret whatever had happened the night before. Though now he wasn’t quite sure what to do with himself, ,he never knew what was proper etiquette when it came to these things.
He decided that making breakfast seemed like a good place to start. So he slowly got to his feet, and managed to find a pair of pajama pants and pulled them on. Once that was done, he slowly made his way out to the main area of his apartment and towards his small kitchen. With a deep breath he got to work cooking up a big enough breakfast for two, guessing on what the other may possibly like.
Kain had almost finished the entire meal when he heard the sounds of the other man coming out of his bedroom. He took a deep breath, trying to figure out what would be the proper thing to say. He had no idea, so he just went with his gut feeling.
“Good morning.. I thought you might be hungry so I made us some breakfast.” he took another deep breath before turning around and smiling over at the other. “Though... if you aren’t hungry that’s okay too.”

It didn’t take very long at all for him to pull out all the different containers he had brought full of food. He concentrated on setting it all up, knowing that was easier to think about then what exactly he was going to say, because he honestly had no idea. He took a steadying breath, a bit relieved that the food was still warm, and wouldn’t need to be reheated.
With that done, he went about placing it neatly on the table so they could just simply get what they wanted and put it on their own plates, since Kain didn’t have the slightest idea what Maes did or didn’t like. When the question finally came, he took a deep breath as he thought it over for a long moment. He had absolutely no idea how to word it, but he knew he needed to come up with something.
“I wanted to talk about us.. to see if there was anyway to possibly..” he trailed off for a moment, not quite sure how to word it. He didn’t dare to get his hopes up, he was just hear to see if there was a chance, and he had already told himself that if there wasn’t, he would walk away. He wouldn’t force himself on Maes. “ I don’t like leaving things unfinished.. And I think we both had a decent amount of time to cool off..I’m not one to give up easily.. but if you make it clear that you don’t want anything to do with me.. I will respect that.”
Communication is Key
Tumblr media
“Yeah I - have no excuse for this flagrant fall back to bachelorism,” Maes admitted, flashing a grin that was one part sheepish, one part razor-edged. He knew how to live, of course he fucking did - quality of life just wasn’t on the top of his playing cards these days, was all. Keeping himself sane and getting back into the career track took priority over healthy eating and pretending he actually gave a shit about smoothies and other ‘oh so good for you’ foods he had touted as a married man and father.
It wasn’t that he didn’t still believe those things were important it just. Hurt too much to eat the way he used to, before the hollow worlds ruined everything that once was pure. Falling back to his lifestyle before Gracia had ever set foot in it had been the next best thing and if there was an abundance of similarities with one Roy Mustang, well, that was courtesy of how close they’d been all these years and a shared disinterest in remembering to eat when there was work to be done.
“Good of you to come prepared,” He added after a moment, fetching the kettle and pouring hot water into it before setting it on the stove. After that was done he peered over at Kain again, trying hard not to let his eyes wander too much - that dress was so cute, it wasn’t fair and should probably be illegal - as he remarked, “No big deal - I wasn’t really doing anything productive anyway.” Unless imitating bats counted. “What did you want to talk about?”

Kain immediately took to the feeling of Isaac’s hands on his hips, knowing that he could very easily get use to this. However he hadn’t been expecting to be picked up and he couldn’t stop the startled squeak that came out of his mouth. He did however settle to being placed on the counter, realizing what the other was doing, he couldn’t find reason to complain. It did make it a bit easier to look up at the taller man.  He moved his own arms up to wrap around the other’s neck, now that he could actually reach.
There was a part of him that was so relieved to hear that the other was willing to give them a shot. He honestly didn’t know what he would do if Isaac had changed his mind, though he knew he would have let the other go, he was never about trying to force something that wasn’t there. Though before he could even manage to say a thing, Isaac was leaning down and kissing him.
It took Kain a few seconds to register what was even happening, though as the realization began to sink in he immediately kissed Isaac back. His grip around the other tightened just a bit, as he leaned in as much as he possibly could. He could only hope he was doing a decent enough job, it wasn’t like he had any practice. Kain kissed Isaac until his lungs screamed for air, and he was forced to pull back, knowing it was showing the other just how red his face had become.
“I-I…. I’m glad.” he said with a bit of a nod, trying to remember how to think, let alone speak. He let his hands slide down so they were resting on Isaac’s chest, smoothing down the shirt a bit. He licked his lips and finally smiled up at the other. “That wasn’t too bad was it?.. I’ve never actually.. kissed anyone before.”
As The Bell Tolls
Tumblr media
Feeling Kain shift, he moved back a little so the man wouldn’t have to crane so much to see him, and smiled a little at the sweet and honest words that were so forthcoming as a result. Though the initial slip had been unintentional, now that Isaac had thought it over, he was warmed to the idea and would not be easily shaken from it.
To prove this, he leaned forward and set his hands on Kain’s hips, marveling a moment at how truly lithe he was as he plucked the man up and set him on the counter o they could be closer to eye level. Crowding close, he moved one hand so that his arm wrapped around Kain’s waist and held him steady, while the other moved to trace the lightest brush of knuckles over the man’s jaw.
“I am certain of my decision.” The statement was succinct, as most of his words tended to be, and he proved his conviction with action. Curling his hand under Kain’s chin he drew the small man up, leaning down the last of the distance to press their lips together in a kiss that felt more like a promise.

Kain was more than relieved and excited when Edward agreed to the third option. He wanted to give the other a night he could truly remember and a simple dinner did not quite seem enough. Edward deserved a magical night, and he was going to do everything in his power to give him exactly that. He smiled brightly up at the other, though he was unable to stop the blush that spread across his cheeks when the other kissed his hand.
“Friday at six.” he repeated, nodding a bit the smile never once leaving his lips. He honestly couldn’t wait, and he had a feeling that the week was going to drag on rather slowly now that he had plans. Though it did give him plenty of time to plan out the perfect meal to make along with making sure his apartment was spotless and presentable for the date.
Kain watched the other walk away, admiring Edward for as long as he could get away with, before he moved back off the dance floor, finding someone to talk to. Of course now that he made such a scene in the middle of an event, there were plenty of people who wanted his attention, asking him all sorts of questions, though the main one having to do with his dancing skills. Which he was happy to answer, it was enough of a distraction to get his mind off Edward and their planned date.
Dance The Night Away
Edward waited patiently, watching the panic filter over Kain’s features and feeling genuinely bad for having teased him like that. He couldn’t imagine how much courage it must have taken to make a move - it was more than he possessed, certainly! So he smiled softly, by way of apology and encouragement, surprised when Kain reached and once again, tucked his hair back. It was such a subtle, intimate gesture and yet - Edward found it seemed to suit, somehow.
A perfectly sculpted brow arched upward, lightly painted lips curving in the most imperceptible smile at the suggestion of a third option. The other brow rose to match at what was ultimately laid out, and Edward tilted his head a bit as he seemed to think it over.
“You drive a hard bargain,” He responded after a moment, already well aware of his answer. “Pick me up on Friday after six.” He let his smile show itself this time, taking Kain’s hand and raising it to his lips for a brief kiss, “Thank you for the dance tonight,” He added, golden gaze genuine before he let Kain go, and returned to the more political aspect of the evening, feeling lighter than he had in a long time.

Kain blinked once or twice as he listened to Edward, a little surprised that the other would want to steal him away at all, but he didn’t really question it. For the moment he focused on getting his breathing back to normal, and the most he listened to the other, it became a bit easier. There was a part of him that thought maybe the other was flirting, but he forced the thought away, entirely sure that he had to be reading it wrong.
Kain was a bit surprised by the half hug, though before he could even hug the other back, it seemed as if it was over, and he was being motioned to start walking. So he did just that, he focused on his steps in an attempt to make sure he didn’t fall, and it was enough of a distraction to finally fully calm him down. He was finally able to actually have a conversation with the other, to be his normal self once more as a relief within itself. With one final deep breath he smiled as he looked over at Edward.
“Trust me I have definitely learned my lesson.” he said with a bit of a laugh, though at the offer to get something to drink and catch up he couldn’t help but smile brightly. “Yes, I would love that! It’s been so long, that I was actually..  A bit worried about you to tell the truth.”
Ghosts Of The Past
Edward gave the man time to catch his breath and his bearings, smiling reassuringly when Kain apologized. “Don’t sweat it - honestly you being so out of sorts gave me a great reason to steal you away, so I’m certainly not going to complain!”
In his work attire, Edward knew how just about anything he said could come across as flirtatious - and honestly, he made no move to amend that as he slid a warm arm around Kain’s waist and drew him close in a half hug before drawing the man to walk with him, looking for all the world his dolled up date.
“You should be more careful with your bets - you might not end up bumping into a familiar face next time,” Edward cautioned, tone amused. “Now that I’ve stolen you away though - why don’t you join me for a drink someplace quieter and less risque? I’d love to catch up with you - it’s been ages!”

Kain was still a bit out of breath from the kiss, as as he attempted to catch it, he found himself watching the other. Admiring the beauty that was there, and not just the glittering gold that the other had made a habit of wearing constantly since he had gotten back from Xerxes. There had always been a beauty about Edward that Kain admired, and despite everything the other had been through he still seemed to shine bright in his own unique way.
He was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard the question, smiling a bit as he nodded. There was a flush to his cheeks realizing that it was probably odd for someone his age to only now be getting their first kiss, but it wasn’t exactly as if he could take it back, and besides he saw no reason to lie to the other. The kiss had been nothing short of magical, and he had been glad that he had waited up till this moment.
He stayed silent as the other move to put two fingers on his lips, he kept his arms firmly in place around the other wanting to keep Edward close to him for as long as he possibly could, as silly as it sounded. He knew he had no claim to the other, and probably never would but for this brief moment he could pretend. In this magical little moment, things felt right and warm, and he never wanted it to come to an end.
When Edward leaned in, he gave him his full attention, pushing back any of the thoughts that sought to consume him. He looked up at the other, blinking a bit as the words the other spoke began to sink in. There was a part of him that wondered if he had fallen at some point and hit his head and now he was dreaming all of this, because quite frankly the whole thing felt like it was a dream.
“Are you sure?” he couldn’t help but ask, oh how he wanted to just agree immediately, but he couldn’t help but have his doubts, he was hardly a prize that Edward deserved. He wanted so selfishly to keep Edward all to himself, to love him and care for him the way he thought the other should be, but he didn’t voice any of these thoughts. “Would you really let me keep you?”
He realized that the other might take this as some sort of rejection and he almost immediately sought to make it clear that it was certainly not that. “I would love that.. To let you be my first everything, to have you be mine.. But are you sure it’s something you want?”
Never Alone
Edward’s gaze never wavered, eyes as gold as his adornments observing Kain carefully for any sign that he had overstepped something in his affection and finding only sweetness and the kind of breathlessness he was trained to elicit from men and women alike. There was a delicate moment, as his mind started to slip toward Xerxean thinking, and his heart screamed for him to stay in Amestris.
Kain broke the spell, shattering his thoughts and pulling him forward, away from Xerxes and back into the future, where he was Edward Elric and Slave Nineteen was nothing more than a far gone memory in a land destroyed by it’s own hubris centuries ago.
“Your first?” It was hard to believe. Kain was desirable, both in his sweet and nurturing mannerisms but also in his flexible, petite form that in Xerxes, might have spared him for those interested in more exotic fare. Edward frowned, disliking such thoughts and categorizations, even as he acknowledged the fact that prior to Xerxes, his attraction to this man had stemmed from a sense of equality with him. Kain’s beauty had always been set apart from others, in Edward’s mind. Now, holding him close and seeing him flushing, breathless and almost saccharine, he realized why that was.
This man was what he could never be. Confident in himself and what he could bring to the table, Kain was never offended by remarks on his looks or his height. He was always kind, willing to stand for himself, and openly protective of those he cared for. He didn’t hide how nurturing he was, didn’t hide his feelings or concern. He was a pure force, a gentle light Edward had admired but never dared to taint with his touch.
Now, he was far fallen. His touch carried trail of Xerxean ideals, his mind was a battlefield, constantly at war with twenty years of morality and ideals - and seven years of destructive grooming. He was a man changed and Kain - Kain was a purity still, a beautiful untouchable light he had fluttered to with all the foolishness of a moth. His lips burned with what he had done, burned with the knowledge of what he had taken - and his heart cracked even as he formed a dangerous resolve.
A hand that glittered with gold, a little over a dozen rings decorating the skin, nails tipped with soft metal carefully crafted and etched to a Xerxean standard and yet, bearing symbols known to Ametris, moved to press two adorned fingers to plush and parted lips. Warm breath fluttered over them as he smiled softly down at the other.
It was dangerous to play with fire like this. Kain was an all encompassing goodness - his light could burn Xerxes away, or illuminate the darkness inside of Edward for all to see. Still, the once-slave leaned forward, letting the tips of his gold nails drag down past Kain’s bottom lip as he let his voice drop, inviting as it was promising, “Let me be your first everything. Keep me, Kain - hold your promise and keep me.”

Kain smiled, glad that the other seemed to be adjusting well enough, he couldn’t imagine what it had to be like. Though he was a little surprised to hear that someone had told him that it had been his doing that made sure that Isaac’s name got cleared. For the most part everyone just assumed that it was Mustang’s doing, which was fine by him, he didn’t really want the credit, as long as Isaac got the respect he deserved for seeing what they had all been too blind to notice.
“It was the right thing to do.. After we figured it out, and the clean up began.. I looked into your death, and noticed it was suspicious. It was only fair that you goth the recognition for seeing what we all couldn’t.” He spoke the truth, seeing no reason to lie about his reasoning for doing what he had done.
“You are very welcome.” he smiled knowing it was probably pointless to tell him that there was no need to thank him for doing what was right. There was a part of him that was relieved to hear that the other had every intention of making a positive change to his life, nothing warmed his heart more knowing that Isaac would get that chance. “Well if you ever need any help with anything, all you ever have to do is ask, I would be more than happy to lend a hand.”
Hope In An Empty Place
Isaac was admittedly a bit thrown by both how relaxed Feury was in the face of a dead man, but also how - kind. He knew Zaida had come first and prepared people but - well, he supposed he hadn’t thought it would go this far. Then again, she had known who had cleared his name, so perhaps she had warned Feury directly, for all he knew.
“I can’t complain,” Nobody would listen, His mind provided, completing the elder’s adage and causing a small smile to form on his own features. “I heard it was you who - saw fit to see my name cleared, after the Promise Day revealed matters.” He hesitated - on one hand, he had gone about it all wrong and he recognized that now. On the other, it. Meant something, to have someone take an effort for him, even post posthumously.
“I wanted to thank you,” He stated gruffly, setting his hands into his pockets. “I - know now, that I went about it wrong. But I am glad to know that I may live again free, because of your efforts. I intend to make positive change now, something I would not be able to do if not for you so - thank you.”

Kain hummed softly as he listened to Ma, he wasn’t at all surprised by her answer, he had a feeling that it would be something that he needed to decide for himself. Though that was hardly and easy enough task, he was sure he could manage to do it. He could practically count all the times he thought he had been in love, but none of them had compared to the feeling that now sat in his chest, they paled in comparison.
He nodded a bit, when Ma told him to get familiar with his own feeling, and though he wasn’t quite sure how to go about it, the logic made sense. “Okay, I will.” he said with a bit of a determined nod, though he did however catch Ma’s slip, not at all surprised that she had figured it out. Then again he would be surprised if anyone hadn’t noticed how bad he had fallen for Luc.
“I suppose it’s a silly question to ask.. If you think I’m good enough for Luc.” he knew it was one, and yet he asked anyways. There was a part of him that needed Ma’s acceptance, that she would be okay if something more grew between Luc and himself, not that he thought she would ever try to put a full on stop to them even if she did.
How do you know?

Feeling her little one sigh, Rina indulged herself in a hidden smile, knowing full well that the answer had been found - and it was favorable. She didn’t say anything of course, letting him adjust to the realization that what he felt was in fact something so great and terrible as love could be, simply drifting fingers through his hair to soothe him.
When Kain spoke again, her heart warmed for him, knowing how crazy and warm that first realization could be. As for what to do, well -
“That’s entirely up to you my dear. Nobody can tell you how to love, or when to speak of it. These are things you’ll have to figure out on your own.” She knew it wasn’t the answer he was hoping for, but some things were not meant for a mother to dictate. Some things, a child had to stumble through on their own to find the answers that held real meaning.
“For now, let yourself feel,” She suggested gently, giving him a slight squeeze, “Familiarize yourself with your own heart, before you open it - that’s really the only advice I can offer. When or if you chose to tell him how you feel, that I can’t help you with.” She realized her own slip there, but then let it go - he would call her on it, or accept that nothing slid past this ol’ Ma, one way or another.

Kain had been on his way home from a long day at work, wanting nothing more than to go home and eat a good meal and relax. However as he turned down a street, he saw a suspicious group of men running off as if they had just committed some sort of crime. He stopped and eyed them suspiciously for a moment, but since he had nothing to go off of, it wasn’t as if he could stop them. Instead he found himself turning down the path they had come from, looking for the evidence of the crime he suspected.
That was when he came across a rather beaten up and bloodied man. He sighed softly to himself, wishing that he had actually stopped the group, though even with his gun he doubted he would have been very effective at holding them for too long. Instead he put his attention into helping the blonde man. He moved slowly closer, hoping not to startle the other with his presence.
He wasn’t all that surprised when he was shouted at, it was to be expected really. So he showed his hands to the other, flat and empty as if to show he meant absolutely no harm. He took a slow step forward taking in the full sight of the man. He was entirely sure that even if he had decided to get violent he wouldn’t get very far. It was clear that he had taken a beating and as in no position to try and fight.
“Can I help you?”  he asked softly, because he thought it was best to ask permission, it was clear that whatever had fully happened had been traumatic for the man in front of him, and the last thing he wanted to do was make it worse.
“Are you cold? Would you like my coat?” he offered, noticing that the man seemed to be shivering, and it was a rather chilly day.

The sheer amount of frustration he’s feeling is enough to make him want to burst. He’s hopelessly lost, he just got mugged, and it’s cold as balls out here. It’s not his fault that he’s still lacking a lot of words, it’s not his fault that he rapidly switched between the languages he knew and ended up with a bunch of sounds that sounded like curses, and it’s definitely not his fault he missed his train back to resembool by mere moments because he forgot what the all aboard call sounded like.
Now look at him. Bloody, beaten, his stuff gone, penniless, and alive. Normally the last one would be a good thing but in his case, that’s what started this whole mess. Trying to find a reason why he’s still here, trying to stay out of Pinako’s hair, trying to relearn things he feels like he knows… He’s pretty sure he used to be bigger, but like a lot of things he can’t quite remember only… Only…
He closes his eyes as a wave of anger and anxiety hits him, but… Oh god, he hates closing his eyes. Dirt… That void in a flask… Flashing light, a wide white grin. Nightmares incarnate. He quickly opens his eyes, staring down at the sidewalk, watching the blood drip from his face and paint the ground in front of him.
      Plink….. Plink…. Plink….
He hears the sound of footsteps approaching him, and he quickly looks up, already trying to scramble to his feet. He’s not going to get hit again if he can help it, and if this place is anything like Xerxes– thinking the very word almost causes him to freeze up– he’s got to act strong and capable to avoid it. He doesn’t feel big enough, to intimidate the approaching person with size alone, and while his voice feels all torn up from pleading with the last bunch, it’s all he’s got.

“What th’ hell do you think you’re looking at!”
For someone who got beat up because his attackers thought he was swearing, you’d think he’d neglect to be so confrontational. However, the way he’s gripping the wall behind him, combined with the way his knees are shaking, it’s almost comical. Almost. If it wasn’t for how bloody he currently was.
