"a fish is meat right?" He looked skinny... Before going to sit at the sore side attempting to catch a late dinner... He waits watching the fish

"In Neverland, the Never beasts hunt a stray pirate or Lost Boy who has fallen behind," Starell joked. That was nature's way on the island. There were many wild animals on the island, including great cats. The pirates hunted the Lost Boys, and the Never beasts hunted the pirates, in that order. The hunt was a game to them.

"You're still a bit small though," she said with a smile.

There were plenty of fish swimming. "If you try catching a fish, be careful not to go too deep into the water," the mermaid warned, ready to catch the little cub if he should fall in. The fish were her friends and she didn't really want the cub to eat one, but maybe he just wanted something or someone to play with.

The mermaid watched him lick up the water and then was surprised to hear him speak to her. As a mermaid she could understand animals but she hadn't talked to many land animals.

"Drink as much as you want," she said, glad the cub could stay hydrated in the heat.

She noticed he was alone though. "Where are your parents, little one?"

The little cub slowly and shyly approached the pond before sipping it trying some "mmmm..thank you"

The mermaid surfaced upriver. She thought she saw something in the grass, like a sway of breeze. It turned out to be a lion cub.

Starell's eyes widened in surprise to see this kind of land animal. She had heard of Never beasts before. Was this where they were from? And was this the animals' watering hole she found herself in?

"Oh hello there, little friend," Starell coaxed the cub. She hoped he wouldn't be too afraid of her to approach and drink some cool refreshing water.

She held out a dripping wet hand, gently, to pet the cub.

“I got you. It’s gonna be okay, you’re going to be okay.”

“I don’t know how you’re even conscious at this point.”

“Stop being so stubborn and just let me patch you up!”

“You’re going to stay in bed and heal. I’ll handle things.”

“So, you tried bandaging this up, and you… well, you did your best.”

“Oh, thank god, you’re finally awake. Thought I lost you for a minute there.”

“I found you laying out there in the cold. Had to fight to keep you breathing.”

“Okay, no, I’m not laughing. Not laughing. Are you okay? That must’ve hurt.”

“Who did this to you? And, no, I’m not going to believe this was an accident.”

“Of course I’m worried about you. You keep getting hurt, and keep not letting people look after you.”

“I bandaged you up while you were out and… this isn’t the first time you’ve been hurt this bad, is it? I saw the scars.”
