A bit of an odd thing to note, but Looker went from "My name-- Ah no, my CODENAME is Looker" to "My codename-- Uh, my NAME is Looker" as a disguise
to just "My name is Looker" in the Alola games
I know he still calls it a codename but in Masters, he really emphasizes that Looker is something personable to him. Something he enjoys.
I think he just really likes "Looker" as his name too. Not just a codename, but a name he naturally responds to and goes by. Something he doesn't mind being referred to. After all he's "Mr. Looker" and not "Agent Looker" by Anabel.
100KR / 836 is his original codename that fits being just a number. But Looker feels like it's something he can easily wear as a common man's name.

also i think both Cyrus and Volo did not know what the fuck they were truly playing with, what they were actually doing.
Volo THINKS he'll usurp Arceus and fix what he considers grievances in the world. Cyrus THINKS he'll create a new world, a new galaxy in an image that best suits him. But what is their proof? HOW do they know they'll do that when all they have to rely on are broken, historical accounts based on human written myths?
Much like how Maxie and Archie lost immediate control of Groudon and Kyogre when they were awakened... When Eternatus nearly destroyed Galar, when Mewtwo left a ruined laboratory in its wake... These humans always think that everything will go according to plan while playing with kaijus. The hubris that their cobbled together plan relies on wild animals acting exactly like they're supposed to, instead of acting like wild animals.
Volo and Cyrus were never in control... it's insane to think Giratina was just reminding them both of that. Even if Volo won, the azure flute would have never been in his hand. The path he seeks will NEVER open, no matter how much he brute forces it and no matter how much Giratina just stares at him, quietly.

Looker doesn't have a cool Dark type themed party of Pokemon or competitively viable legendaries and sometimes he didn't have a Pokemon at all but he's been doing some crazy creative shit that's put him into the wildest, most intense situations by refusing to play the game the way it was intended.
He's a glitch% speedrunner.
#/he disguised himself as BOULDER#/Of course that gets him a lot of praise from Anabel who relies deeply on her Pokemon#/He's effectively creating solutions out of paperclips and toothpicks

I was gonna make a whole ramble about Emmet and flanderization, because I feel that forcing him into appearing in PLZA is rather out of character for him (The wish is clearly only about Lumiose city, Emmet loves his brother too much to abandon his subway and pokemon responsibilities, Emmet would immediately make a direct flight to Sinnoh rather than Kalos etc etc)
But it made me think that I have a soft spot for Emmet because I feel like sometimes.. SOME characters, mostly male, can fall into a fandom trap?
It's when a male character is a bit more emotional, quirky, less stoic/cold/serious. When they show their weaknesses or any sort of personality that can be described as "naive." And especially if there's a cooler, more serious, more aloof male character for comparison.
Someone like Emmet or Looker is immediately seen as... Somewhat immature? Made to be super naive and is the silly character who is unserious because the other male characters they're related to are the cool men, the adult and serious men. Like those characters are the ones who are actually getting shit done.
Wearing your heart on your sleeve, being socially awkward, having moments of great mistakes... These characters aren't just the naive ones. They're adults who go try to through life with a smile and they're not weaker or more child-like because of it.
Maybe it's a matter that people find cynicism "more real" or something like that, except for the fact it can be just as much as a facade as trying to stay positive.

But truly... Anabel... Where do you keep your Mega Ring? Your Z-Ring? and your gigantamax band or whatever you call it?
Clearly you have all three. Or idk, I think the z-ring works in place of a mega ring. i guess. Or not really, you just have to hold the keystone. i guess.

A youtube video I saw today brought up a simple yet genius theory: What if Giratina was never really on Volo's side to upsurp Arceus?
Giratina was always part of the "seek out all Pokemon" challenge that Arceus gives the player. You are INTENDED to befriend Giratina before challenging Arceus.
The concept that Giratina wasn't acting out of revenge or a concept of good and evil or the sheer concept that Volo COMPLETELY misunderstood Giratina and Arceus as a whole makes... So much sense. Giratina battled you, twice, and when you won, it ran off as intended.
It wasn't angry. It wasn't throwing a beastial fit of being upset. it just... Left. Considering the idea that Giratina was ALWAYS meant to keep balance, it did its job. It shows Cyrus an empty world, it shows Volo that his hubris is meaningless in the long run.
tl;dr Giratina did its job, and its job was finished. It is no violent presence to be banished or oppressed, and humans always have and always will misinterpret the actions of very stoic divine beasts.

CW: Nudity, Pregnancy
--

Imagining Looker with a slight pregnancy kink... That he's just really really excited about Anabel's motherhood and all the changes that come with it. He's also very flustered and perhaps a bit ashamed by his thoughts?
For him, this is something he thought he'd NEVER experience. He never thought it was in his cards to be with someone carrying his child, let alone have a spouse. He's married to justice and thought he'd die an Interpol agent. He thought Nanu was a glimpse into his future. He thought he was just... a number.
It's all sorts of new and intense feelings with his wife. The changes she goes through, feeling kicks, taking care of her well being...
He... Loves her. He loves her body, he's DEEPLY attracted to her before and after she becomes pregnant and during it. She's the most gorgeous human alive for him, she's a goddamn goddess. He feels all sorts of weird butterflies in his stomach knowing that he's the reason for that glow she has. He's on cloud nine and he's kind of freaked out about that. None of this feels real. Gods she's beautiful. Looker is just wondering how he GOT here.
Anabel doesn't mind, she's amused by his bashfulness... And he makes her feel special and loved as her body goes through something that's quite the ordeal. Looker's adoration is more than welcome, knowing that he's been the perfect partner to have for this.
...
yeah he gets to taste it.

Some time off? ✨🥭🍓🌴 This is finally complete! Special thanks to patrons :]
I really like Larry's Alola fair outfit, it's super cute, though Geeta's choices for him are certainly interesting. The most perplexing to me is the nice wrist watch...
[ also i think geeta gifting him the fit sort of implies she knows his measurements. has she done this before? ]

after being reminded of "My Dress Up Darling" (good shit), Looker and Anabel is a similar trope the way I write it...
It's like on the surface it seems like extra-ordinary girl just dazzles a rather ordinary guy, but it's flipped on its head where the male lead of the romance is written as to quote "the perfect man." Thoughtful, caring, driven in his own hobbies, gentle and never objectifying
I love stories where both leads are fawned over, making people go "god I wish that were me"

Thanks to your candid thoughts on Xerosic I took a deeper look at Emma's story and it helped me nail down her characterization a lot more, as a young illiterate kid who of course would initially respect the man and appreciate feeling useful, only to later in life (finally having enough stability to allow herself to learn to read and educate herself) realize the horror of the 'beautiful' rethoric of Team Flare, and the rotten fascist ideals it was meant to disguise. The ones Xerosic followed.
OOOOH I LOVE THIS TOO...
By all means I love her growth as a character, and the obstacles she faced along the way... She got so much out of nowhere one day, and felt... God I felt so bad for her that she felt the need to repay kindness given for free-- As though giving her a home, a meal, an education was too good to be true.
Emma would appreciate feeling just. Useful, in a moment where she probably felt so useless. I see now what you mean when it comes to her grappling with self worth.
In that moment, having a job that seemed utterly harmless and helps repay Looker's kindness is wonderful. It's so, so, so easy to miss the red flaring flags with a rose tinted visor helmet. It probably spurs on her motivation as a newly made Detective and to protect the most vulnerable people and Pokémon of Lumiose City. People will mask their intentions with kindness, the ones with money and power will exploit the weak.
She went through that. She's paying it forward and helping those who need the most help.
