Mitch stays silent, brown eyes watching Harry and waiting for an elaboration.

“He was waiting for me to call.”

“And you didn’t,” Mitch concludes.

“It was a one time thing!”

“Did you say you’d call?” Mitch tilts his head. He knows Harry too well.

“Well. Yes. But! That’s just something you say,” Harry shrieks and starts pacing, “like ‘break a leg’, or ‘happy birthday’ to a colleague, or—or! ‘I’ll see you later’ when you very clearly won’t. You know?”

He spins on his heels to judge the response.

Arms crossed like a disappointed parent, Mitch looks unimpressed.

Harry hadn’t planned on seeing Louis again, not after that night. When he finds out his only competition for a very desired promotion is Louis, he spirals into a mess of trying to be a better coworker and person right before Christmas in hopes that he can outdo Louis’ effortless effect on his office. If he manages to get his head out of his ass along the way, it’ll be a holiday miracle.
