Speaking as a survivor of child sex abuse: the world would be a lot better if yall spent less time talking about the ways in which pedophiles should be punished and more time supporting survivors and preventing abuse
I get it, punishment can feel cathartic. I’ve certainly spent time imagining all the ways in which my own abuser might be punished. But ultimately, him dying, or being jailed, or publicly shamed, isn’t actually going to help me nor will it stop more kids from getting hurt in the future.
I don’t want more prisoners. I want free therapy with trauma informed counselors. I want better sex education for young children that teaches them about consent and body autonomy. And I want a society in which I can openly discuss my trauma, or at least as openly as yall discuss the evils of pedophiles

does anyone have that quote that goes something like 'white germans under the nazis lived just fine as long as they were loyal to the state, gave their children to the army, and paid their taxes, and in this sense many americans would be comfortable living under fascism' trying to find who said it but google is giving me jack shit

I seriously can't fucking stand when arrogant and condescending Europeans online that be acting like their shit don't be stinking too within their own countries that be having just as many fucked-up political problems as well.
Especially in terms of Far-Right extremism/Fascism and how some be acting like racism and being horribly shitty towards Black & Brown People are "American issues only."
Like Europe doesn't also have deep-rooted issues with White-Supremacy and White nationalism or has an ongoing history of being xenophobic and bigoted towards specific groups of people.
Be it Jewish people or Romani people or those of African descent and South Asian, etc.
Seriously, some of these White Europeans online are acting like their countries are extremely incapable of being just as racist and prejudiced as America is.
Like racism and bigotry are just "Americans problems."

I do want to touch on one more thing. When black people were stolen from Africa and put on those ships. They stripped us of our culture, our language and our history. A lot of us in present day can’t even say where our ancestors came from exactly, we can’t speak the language, we don’t even know the names of our forefathers.
That music scene was so moving because it highlights that despite all of the terrible atrocities, we are connected. Past, present and future. It’s in our soul, it’s in our very bones. We will always carry each other. It’s spiritual and it’s unbreakable. That power is our birthright.
#sinners#the scene's main focus is on the Black experience and on the african diaspora in america#but i still got emotional bc im part of another diaspora and seeing the whole notion of being connected to your ancestors through the musi#shed a tear#but also: blues having elements from african music was so cool to learn#really drives home the point of how Black ppl in american still managed to connect and hold on to their cultural heritage from africa bc#of blues
