Well, it’s been a morning.
We went into town to see Regis again and instead we got attacked by swarms of stirges in town. Fae said they were acting weird too, like they apperently don’t usually come into town and they seemed like they were all functioning as one big hivemind which is apperently weird.
Probbably had something g to do with them being a fucking distraction for Regis to get kidnapped.
They wanted Eden’s body in exchange for his safety.
So we went back to Cedric and filled him in. Regis was his wife’s friend and I can’t imagine she would want him hurt. And I mean, she’s not using her body (Renhime was adamant it was disrespectful anyway so we’re using a mannequin instead)
Cedric told us about her a little bit. About the little things he loved about her. It reminded me of you a little bit, the way he talked about her. You would have loved her…
I still don’t think I trust Cedric, but I do feel bad for the guy. He did love her I think.
But anyway, we’re gearing up for a rescue mission for the little guy. Everyone’s taking a break and bandaging up from the fight this morning and then we’re setting off (Cedric has a even lending us a wagon and this gorgeous white horse named Shadowfax to carry our mannequin Eden)
Wish me luck!

Update time.
I made it to Brindlewood (obvs). There are 4 other dudes who were invited out here early to meet before Eden’s funeral. They’re Hall, a little gnome dude, Sagar, a pretty cool seeming water Genasi, Renheim, a human who’s a little on edge, and Fey a Eladrin with a cute little cat (I’ll tell you more about them later)
This guy, Archibold, came to take us to Eden’s estate where we’ll be staying. He was answering our questions and stuff until Hall asked something about Eden’s brother and the guy kind of snapped. We were attacked by some hidden mages and the guy we were talking to turned out to be a doopleganger. Big yikes. I mean, we beat them, we actually worked pretty well together, and we found the real Archibold beat to shit in the bushes. Fae healed him up, and Sagar found a note in one of the mages pockets with orders from someone calling themselves the Sentinel.
Real Archibold did take us to the estate and our accommodations, but Eden’s late husband wasn’t ready to meet with us. Archibold said Eden and Him were as in love as two people could be so I can’t imagine he’s taking it well. I can’t blame him for not wanting to jump right into hosting or whatever.
We did go speak with the librarian Regis, another gnome guy who, according to him, was one of Eden’s most trusted inner circle right along with Archibold and the local constable. He had his own theorys on things. Made some comments about how everything Eden had may not have come naturally, as well as how he thinks one of her inner three may have played a hand in her death. I honestly don’t know what to think. It does seem suspicious, she should have had centuries left, but I honestly don’t know what to think…
He also said something about there being some wanderers coming under the cover of red mist ever since she passed, holding people down doing who knows what. It almost sounds inhuman. Like maybe a spell gone wrong or an unfinished ritual.
I hope not.
But that’s what I’m doing. Sitting up on the roof of Eden’s guest house watching for mist. I don’t need much sleep, but neither does Fae so we took shifts watching the night roll in. Nothing’s happening so no harm in taking some notes.
We have plans to go speak with Regis again tomorrow, then the Constable, then lunch with the Widower.
What I still can’t figure out is why I’m here. I don’t know anyone else’s ties to Eden, but Regis said that she personally had a very short list of people that her inner circle narrowed down to us five to be called in the event of her death. She wanted us to solve things, maybe even her death? I don’t know. I just can’t figure out why I would even make her original list…I don’t know…but it makes me uneasy.

Things I know about Eden Raine
•She is (or was) a Moon elf
•She was THE KINDEST being alive. Like, give you the shirt off her back level kind. She helped me and a bunch of others just in the time I knew her and that was only a couple months
•She’s dead
•Someone thought I should be invited to her funeral (not really a fact about her I guess? I highly doubt I was invited because I’m in her will or anything)

Ok.
Weird fucking thing happened.
So a while back when I first made it surface-side, there was this awesome lady Eden who helped me get that job doing music for that stage show. Really helped me get some footing (and some coin. Busking doesn’t really pay great)
And she stuck around for MONTHS. Literally came to EVERY SHOW the whole time she was in town. It was sweet as hell. Then one day she just said she had to get going and she hoped we’d see eachother again, and she vanished. And we didn’t actually wind up crossing paths again or anything.
Well, today I got a letter from her estate (I guess) inviting me to her funeral. It didn’t give any details or anything. Just date, time and where to be.
It’s just so weird. I kind of owe her. I don’t think I would have made it as long as I have without her initial help. But how did anyone even find me? How did they know I knew here. And why was I important enough to make the effort for anyway?
I don’t know. I thought about throwing the letter out. But every time I just remeber her kindness and I can’t do it.
I’m gonna go. It should only be a day or two of travel and she deserves my respect.
Wish me luck
