Long story short I survived

turns out the “new set of side effects” was actually withdrawal symptoms and they’ve gotten MUCH worse over the past week

apparently my old ssri is notorious for being hard to come off of and things went downhill so fast (i was alright on sunday and then barely functioning on tuesday) somehow managed to get myself to a job interview on wednesday and not screw up but then on thursday i had to present a project and i almost threw up like 5 times when i was there

friday was probably the worst (maybe because i overexerted on wednesday and thursday) and i told my shrink that im going back to the old meds to which he replied with “👍🏼”

anyway things are finally starting to get better which is great because i have 4 finals i have to study for but also my shrink is a massive piece of shit for not telling me this is something that could happen when he decided to switch my meds. fuck him

switched to a new ssri and all the side effects from the old one are going away which is great but now i have a set of completely different side effects from the new one and i don’t know which ones are worse

I have a slightly controversial take

I think it’s okay to be proud to be american. Every country has bad people who are racist and sexist and whatever (and sometimes they get elected for president in other countries as well) and many MANY countries have been involved in bloody wars in the past and in the present. You’re only aware of american history because you live in a country that has free speech and freedom of the press, you won’t hear the horrors of what happens in authoritarian regimes because it just doesn’t get out.

But also the innovation and creativity of americans is second to none. the US is the force that keeps the world moving forward in technology, science, and more. american medicine saved sooo many lives - the polio vaccine alone (invented by two jews btw 🤭) is estimated to have saved 154 million lives! Even your music and film dominates the world! And even though trump was elected democratically I still believe the majority of americans are decent people

So like, you can take a day off your year and celebrate the AMAZING achievements of the american people. You’re aware of the wrongdoings of the past and they definitely cloud the positives but the positives are still there. The 4th of July should be a reminder that the US has influenced the world in negative and positive ways and a promise to do the best you can with the resources you have (which, again, are second to none) and do good
