If you like cute clothing or are in jfashion spaces, you’ve likely heard of Shop My Violet and it’s probably because of Excellent’s work.

Excellent- @ bbyexcellent on instagram, they/them- was an employee of My Violet whose labor, creativity, and energy promoting the brand was a key factor in My Violet’s current success.

As ruedonite pointed out, it's likely many other Black people in kawaii / j-fashion / indie fashion circles became interested in My Violet and made purchases because their interest was piqued by the representation of a Black creative as a major face of the brand.

However, behind the scenes, Excellent has allegedly faced anti-Black racist discrimination, transphobia, ableism, harassment & bullying in the workplace to the point of hospitalization for a suicide attempt, which they were abruptly fired for.

In clips from a livestream, Excellent provided some details. Those videos are reposted by sailorsappho here.

“The CEO and Laura knew that because I was getting bullied so bad that I tried to not be here anymore and I went to the hospital and they tried to fire me for that."

“They don’t have HR. You know why? Because they don’t have to. They’ve already went down [followers]? Good! Good. No HR. They’re only gonna get HR- they said they’re getting HR now- but it’s because of me. There was no employee handbook when I was hired, there was no social media handbook, there was no HR- nothing."

"They literally made my life a living hell for months..."

At least 2 Instagram users have come forward to vouch for Excellent, stating that they had also had similar experiences with My Violet and its sister brand Foxblood.

Others recapped the allegations and called out My Violet's marketing as an inclusive company while underpaying workers and fostering a hostile work environment.

Excellent is now in danger of being evicted, and faces loss of their vehicle & healthcare while trying to find a new job in LA as someone on the spectrum.

Please boycott My Violet AND Foxblood and @ them on your posts letting them know they have lost your business and/or you will NOT shop until they make this right.

If you have a dollar to spare, put your money where your mouth is and donate to Excellent’s survival.
