honestly really sexy of tumblr to keep follower numbers private. how many people are following me? you'll never know unless I tell you. maybe it's a million, or a thousand, or five, or maybe it's just you. maybe you're the only one here, all by yourself, unable to see if there's anyone standing next to you.
and you'd never know, because status here is based on opinion and not numbers; how popular you think someone is is a vibes-only calculation, and besides the chronological algorithms-optional feed, it's genuinely the best thing tumblr's ever done.

“The language of psychology was enormously successful in shaping the discourse of corporate selfhood because it was able to make sense of the transformations of the capitalist workspace to naturalize new forms of competition and hierarchy, all of which were extrinsic to the psychological persuasion (and to psychoanalysis) but which were increasingly codified by it. As corporations grew larger and created new and newer layers of managers between workers (employees) and upper management and as north american society became more and more oriented toward a service economy, a scientific discourse that dealt with persons, interactions and emotions was a natural candidate to shape the language of selfhood in the workplace. The psychological discourse was successful because in the discourse of the rise of the “professions,” psychologists offered a language of persons, emotions and motivations that seemed to correspond to the large scale transformation of the firm. Psychologists seemed to promise nothing less than to increase production, fight labor unrest, organize manager-worker relations in a non confrontational way and neutralize worker struggle by casting them in the benign language of emotion, personality, individual interaction.”

Accepting identities I don't understand is actually extremely easy because I just go "this isn't about me" and move on with my life unbothered by someone else's identity, it's truly that simple.
