Hey! This might sound silly but can you suggest any relationship milestones besides having kids? You know, things that would signify two people's relationship developing to the next level. To show their closeness and commitment to each other? I know marriage is also a thing but I'm asking this for those characters who don't feel like starting a nuclear family in that traditional way, or even getting officially married necessarily. Thank you in advance, and take your time!!

Doesn’t sound silly at all. It’s important to show different milestones in a relationship to show how close they get and how committed they are.

I will still include marriage and getting kids etc., but it’s of course completely up to the author which milestones they want to include in their story.

Milestones in a relationship

going from ‘dating’ to being committed

being intimate with each other

first time being sick and getting cared for by their partner

meeting the friends

meeting the family

giving each other pet names

showing affection in public

introducing their partner to their hobbies

spending holidays together

first vacation together

first fight

first time making up

going to an work or family event as each other’s plus one

giving each other keys to their homes

saying ‘I love you’ for the first time

talking about their shared future

moving in together

first major purchase together

getting a pet

building a house

getting engaged

getting married

having children

going through tough times together

raising their children together

have the kids leave the house and rediscover their relationship again together

There are a lot more milestones, but it depends on the relationship and what path they decide to take and lot of relationships don’t involve children and marriage etc. and they are still as worthy.

You seem most likely to be able to answer this - if an Andorian and a human had a child, would said child be some form of purple, depending on the human parent's colouration?

I'm incredibly flattered that you asked me this! I have, in fact, put a considerable amount of thought into this issue over the past few years, which is totally normal of course. (I actually have a degree in genetics, so I guess it was a natural question, especially when I wrote the end of a certain fic--in fact my beta asked me the same thing as well!)

I love the idea of purple or lavender, to me that symbolizes the beauty of the Andorian-Human connection and compatibility, because the shades of purple are some of my favorite colors. I also enjoy the idea of an unexpected result, like little Talla's green skin (although I also think that might have been an unintended effect of lighting). Perhaps a shade of actual pink, like rose or fuschia or blush pink. Or, maybe the child would have human-toned skin with a blue sheen that was only visible in certain lighting. Perhaps their skin would be blue but slightly different than the Andorian shade (which seems to be pretty much uniform? Except for the Aenar of course). I think it reasonably possible that all of these variations could be seen in a family with several children, which I think would be especially beautiful.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating.
