thinking about scott abandonment issues mccall again. how so many characters make this fundamental connection with scott as a person, how it quite frankly becomes his thing, and yet so many of them leave. allison leaves town just to come back again to die. isaac leaves because of this, and aiden because of ethan, who in many ways dies for scott, because derek knew the way to connect with him was to care. how this is why isaac stays in season 2. why allison dies in season 3. why derek trusts scott after everything, but he ends up leaving too. rafael. kira. care enough to leave when they're afraid they might make things worse by staying. hell even jackson gets to leave!

you know who always comes back though? fucking peter. rafael. chris argent, after hunting scott for sport. theo, after killing him. and scott chooses to still care about all of them. which could mean nothing.
