katniss & peeta were the main hunter + performer duo in the thg series but haymitch & effie were clearly also a hunter + performer duo. thus they became the accidental co-parents of everlark.

It's so interesting (sad) that Effie in the Mockingjay novel still wears her golden wig even after her torture (as we're told by Katniss). She's so often changing how she looks and you'd like after all the torture she went through in the Capitol due to just being associated with Katniss and Peeta, that she'd change it. But they must have meant something so deeply to her that she didn't care for moving on or even the trends anymore. She just wanted to hold on to the tributes she'd grown to care for in some way (her golden trophy that matched the others).

when katniss was talking about the reaping at the start of series, she stresses how it’s absolutely mandatory to attend unless you’re literally “at deaths door.” So i wonder what it was like, for haymitchs mother, an extremely pregnant teenage girl, who just managed to escape the reaping herself a year prior, to go into labor on that day. Having to worry about how you could potentially be punished if labor isn’t enough of an excuse to miss the reaping while going through the horrors of it; Knowing that two children from your community were once again ripped away, while you bring a new one into those horrors. And then, 16 years later, you have to watch as that same child marches off to his certain death, on the day of his birth.

It takes them a while to notice, but after Tartarus, Percy and Annabeth realize that they're being attacked far less than they used to. Annabeth reasons that their journey has proven their strength and that monsters now avoid them out of fear. Percy thinks that the monsters see no difference between themselves and him now…he wonders if they’re right.
