she gets complimented and he gets insulted but Chandler's eyes never leave her face.

Chandler glances at the floor briefly. Very briefly. With a sad expression. As if he's wondering why his words weren't enough. Like she doesn't take him seriously as boyfriend material and that hurts, but her not taking his genuine compliments of her hurts him more because it means he didn't cheer her up like he wanted to.
