in a (probably futile) attempt to keep my writeblr and main blog @ettawritesnstudies from becoming too crowded, this is where I'm going to reblog fandom stuff! includes: Tolkien, TMA, Rolling with Diffculty, Aurora, Newsies, ATLA, The Stormlight Archive, Rangers Apprentice, and whatever else I decide to put here. My icon is a picture I drew of Dani from RWD S2E4

”Aang is the one who reminds Katara to be a kid” PUT SOME RESPECT ON TOPH’S NAME!!! Toph brings out Katara’s inner child, not the sunshine rainbow flower crown inner child, but her internal gremlin. Her pettiness and violence and self-centered mischief. Aang is a ride-or-die friend sometimes, but when they’re together, Katara’s priorities are always 1) the state of the world and 2) Aang himself. Like she can be playful but she’s never really distracted from her sense of responsibility.
With Toph, Katara prioritizes much more childlike things, like having the last word in an argument, and whether her friends think she’s cool, and laughing in a day spa, and petty revenge. Only Toph can drag Katara down to her level of immaturity and I think that’s beautiful

Yep!
But also, it had become pretty nearly universal to depict him loinclothed (or entirely nude) in illustrations before the movies were made, which is probably why they went that route.
We only know Gollum has clothes in part because he was being drawn that way when jirt was still alive to say 'Hey, why is Gollum naked? I never said he was naked?'
There's another weird evolution of visual design here... Gollum was stealing his clothes from orcs. Well, orcs are usually depicted naked now too, for some reason, so there's nothing for him to steal but a loincloth. Sméagol can't get a break.

do you think any of the air nomads had complex thoughts or resentments about most of them not being raised by their parents? do you think aang did? (i know quite a bit about adoptees and i know most adoptees have complex thoughts about it once they come out of what they call ‘the adoptee fog’.) do you think it causes any insecurities for them, like abandonment issues or such? i don’t know if you have any thoughts on it, but i was curious on what you think!
ummmm…. so you know how like…. social structures such as the nuclear family model are not ontologically necessitated and adoptees being raised in a culture that reifies the importance of biological parentage are likely to feel an emotional disconnect but if you were raised in a culture that prioritizes communal living and de-emphasizes the supposed sanctity of a direct genetic lineage you are probably far less likely to feel alienated from your community because everyone else also shares your experience…… yeah so it’s probably kind of something like that…..

one of my favourite genres of character is , specifically a doctor or scientist who is So deeply evil coded but they're a member of the good guy team & actively helping. & theyre not even a reformed villain theyre just like that. going hehehehehee in their dark scary lab while developing an device that will actually help a lot of people

No but like, this is the thing about Sam carrying Frodo and the ring up the mountain. It's a cool scene in the movie, but they don't explain what's happening at all. The ring at this point is so heavy Frodo can't even lift his head. It's like essentially a cinder-block he has to carry around his neck. And finally he gives up and Sam offers to carry him and:
DO YOU GUYS GET IT? THE RING IS A BURDEN, BUT FRODO ISN'T. FRODO DOESN'T WEIGH ANYTHING TO SAM. SAM CAN LIFT HIM EASILY!!!! HE'S NOT A BURDEN AT ALL I —

like wdym sokka and katara were ten and nine when their mother died and thirteen and twelve when their father left wdym they raised each other wdym they can't treat each other like normal kids because they have this twisted fucked up family grief thing going on where they had to rely on each other to keep going through the loss of their childhoods and I don't think they've ever sat down and talked about what they've been through I think they just quietly exist together in shared trauma and shared grief and a little pool of resentment and anger and love and affection and it makes me so !!!

my brain, out of fucking nowhere: most of your favourite characters are well-meaning yet abrasive and difficult to be around people who are nevertheless accepted and liked by their peers without needing to mask their social difficulties
me, looking at my book and dvd shelves with mounting horror: Ah.

this is a confession to the star wars fandom because I have to get this off my chest. last summer just for fun I taught myself to read aurebesh and. you fanartists have Got to Continue putting the most Hilarious stuff into the background of your art because it is literally my favorite thing
here’s a couple of excellent things I’ve read since I started keeping a list just last month:
- “I hate drawing lightsabers”
- “Idk what to put here”
- “stupid fucking sign”
- “eat paste, it’s good”
- an entire news article on a phone screen which I actually found really impressive
- a few funny misspellings but the best one so far was ahsoka somehow becoming “asock”
- wanted poster of obi wan that read “wanted for fashion crimes”. the caption translated it as “wanted for high treason”. like blatantly lying to my face. love it.
- door on a ship was labeled “cake storage”
- “shopping list: frogs, hair gel, lightsaber polish”
and my personal favorite:
- “if you’re reading this you’re a fucking nerd”

A comic about Szeth and cooking. Or that's what it's going to about. Part 1/4.
(In case it wasn't clear, Nale is 100% just messing with him. Honestly they both kinda are.)
