Art Smallsreed submitted this photo of Eileen Schilinger with her father, Marion, on their farm in Ashley, Ohio, in the summer of 1943. Eileen is now Art's wife, and their son, Steven (fifth generation) currently operates the Smallsreed farm with help from his family.

Rush and Merle bryan and their grandparents' Astabula County farm on Stanhope Kelloggsville Road, near Leon, Ohio, in 1913. His father, Harold Bryan, is one of the youngsters seated on the left with his younger brother. When his grandfather moved to the farm from Parks Road, Sycamore, he road in the cattle car with his 10 cows and horses.

Sid Case of Cortland, Ohio, submitted this photo from 1928 or 1929. His father, Maynard Case, took them at the Marcy Equipment Sales auction in Pierpont, Ohio. Lee Marcy's farm was on the northwest corner of Routes 167 and 7. The sale included farm equipment and used cars.

In the carriage is Harriet Edna Ryan Dutton, and children Evangeline, about age 4, and Dwight "Tom", about age 3.

Nancy Bricker submitted this photo of her grandparents, Charles and Mary Freitag Tomer, with sons Charles and John, in 1918. The farm was located in Bolivar, Ohio. The family raised sheep, cattle and chickens and sold milk, butter, eggs and vegetables.

Dale Duerr submitted this photo of life on the farm, taken about 1918 in Guernsey County near Antrim, Ohio. In the photo Novella Morrison Cunningham, standing on the stump, is holding her nephew, Richard Morrison. Two other nephews, Ernest and Clancy Morrison, are standing on the horse, Doc. The little girl wearing the hat is Novella's daughter, Ethel Cunningham, who later moved to Bolivar, Ohio, and married Robert Duerr. She spent the rest of her life on a dairy farm.聽

DeWayne Horne of Jamestown, Pa. shared this photo of him during his earlier years unloading milk cans at a milk receiving plant in Adamsville, Pa. in the 1950s. Now 81, Horne said his father, Vere Horne, purchased a 1924 Model T Ford truck for $450 to haul milk. In 1926, the elder Horne was the first contract hauler to the milk receiving plant in Adamsville. The milk was delivered to Pittsburgh by rail in 10-gallon cans. He continued this route until retiring in 1964. Horne proudly adds that his four children remain dairy farmers today.

This photo from July 1952 shows the first combine on the Smallsreed farm in Braceville Township after years of using a custom threshing machine and help from neighbors. Glenn Smallsreed is on the tractor, Glenn's children Miriam and Arthur (on seat) are on the bagging platform.

This April 1962 photo shows Merwyn Brenner plowing with a tandem hitch on the Dave Moving farm near East Greenville, Ohio. Wife Matilda writes, "Merwyn still loves his horses, however he has retired now. At age 86 1/2, too much work for an old man!"
