Tragedy behind the scenes
CARROLLTON, Ga- On October 23rd, 2021, the University of West Georgia hosted a fashion show, that ended in a fashion tragedy. Students of the university were selected to express a country through their ability to design clothing. These students, who are design and marketing majors, were using this show to make themselves known. The All Around the World fashion show was to bring in top designers such as, Gucci, Polo, Fendi and many more high end designers.
The show began with a bang, with entertainment and goodies for the guest based on the theme: All Around the World. This featured the top food from the main focused countries of the show such as Mexico, China, France, Russia and India, following with the popular drinks of the countries. Setting the mood for the guest and what they were about to watch, set the tone for the event and what they were about to watch. One of the designers Giocarlo or Gucci stated "The food was a big hit, especially the sushi from Japan, I was defiently stoked to see how the junior deigners expressed their given country through clothing".
As the show began, the junior designers were unaware of what their colleage has created, to ensure no stealing of ideas. The show according to the creator Haley Wade, Mrs. Wade begins to say "The secretness of the design of the countries clothing, is because everyone has their own mind and idea of perception". As the models began to dress, the smell of smoke rose across the auditorium, with looks across the room. Everything went as planned, through China, India with a sudden stop to our next country Russia. The guest remained calm, unknown to the situation backstage, which happened to be a unplanned fire caused by the suprising material of the dress created.
The designer of the dress from Russia, Destini Nelson, made the extonishing dress out of Newspaper from recent articles of the Russian Times, topped with a ushaka, which is a russian fur hat. Her inspiration came from the importance of news paper in cities in Russi, due to the lack of real news, and the ushaka to express the harsh cold the country faces. As the model stepped back to talk to Nelson, she had her dress resting on a curling iron unknowingly. This strikes a fire causing a late reaction from the model and people around. The fire spread across the dress, with the inability to get it off in enough time, resulting in the model, Montana Bailey, to suffer 3rd degree burns surrounding her body and a evacuation of guest. The show is set to reschedule for December 21st, 2021, with a new invitation to the designers and the special guest.

Fashion styles bring college students closer
By: Haley Wade
ATHENS, Ga- Game day is a big day in the south for college football teams. The main teams of the south are Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU and Clemson being the topped ranked. This is a day not only special for the football team who made it on the big stage, but for students to express their school spirit. School spirit is not only expressed by posters and pom poms, but how your outfit expresses the excitement for your team. Being a college student myself, I have first hand experience on how game day works and the must haves for the perfect outfit.
As a native of Georgia, G-Day is the biggest day for The University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. This is the day everyone comes out and supports how much they love and support the Georgia Dawgs. This is not only a day of football but a day of friends and family coming together. The most in attendance from in experience, are students of the school or friends of students, such as myself. As you walk through the streets of Athens, it is almost like a all day fashion show as you see the most well put together outfits, you can already tell took months of planning for. As I walked through the crowded streets, you hear the mimics of compliments between college students, about what each other are wearing. The " wear did you get that" to "that fits you so well", from not only Georgia fans but from the opposing team fans. Girls styles are the most diverse on game days as mens usually consit of a polo version of the teams logos, and kahki pants. Girls naturally have better style than man, and are elite at adding accessories to their outfits, to make them less boring such as bracelets, scarfs, necklaces, hats, makeup and headbands to complete their looks.
Style is so influential in todays world not only in person but through social media. Social media is the reason most people dress the way they do at college football games, besides the look good, feel good mindset most college age girls have. It is always a great thing, to snap pictures in such fun moments such as a football game, so whats better than wearing a cute outfit in your picture, nothing. The way you post yourself on social media, is the way you want other people to see you. In the case of how people look at you on game day, do you want to show your self as a relaxed, lack of spirit person or a dressed to impress, "I love my school" person, majority would say the dress to impress style. At games it is best to observe other peoples styles, and get inspiration from one another. The best thing about social media now and days is you get to recieve inspiration online as well as in person.
Clothing will always be expensive, especially to get the best outfit in a college based town, which most students only have access to. The best bet for your money is to use your online engines and follow "Closet clean out" accounts and Facebook pages from students among you. This is a perfect way to save money, but also connect and form new friendships with students you share styles with. Next time think about all the diverse outfits are out in this world and how everyones different style, does not seperate us, but bring us together.

Are Atlanta fashion shows always to benefit its brand or others in a positive way?
ATLANTA- Events are always happening in Atlanta from sports events, concerts, even fashion shows. Most people tune in to fashion shows to know what is in, and what is out. Atlanta being a city based capital, is shy of horses and never the less the equestrian style. The popular brand Polo is once again, for the fourth year, bringing its popular Atlanta Fashion & Polo Classic fashion show back. This event is being held at Bouckaert Farm in Fairburn, Ga which is south of the city of Atlanta. To differ the event each year the presenter of the event, the Michael Wilson Collection which is also sponsored by Bentley Atlanta, likes to change up the themes to make it more special. As Polo as you see in their brand, has a more of an polo match vibe, the creators goal is to make it a professional "Black Tie Expierence". This cocktail event, held at The Georgian Terrence Hotel, set the perfect scene for the equestrian clothing style, Polo offers.
Atlanta style is very diverse, as you see all types from skirts and boots to short sleeve crop tops paired with sweatpants and a jacket. The two main draws to tie the event to its clothing style, were the charity polo match and the designer fashion show. I believe this was a perfect way to put out their brand and how it will express itself to the customers admiring the clothing. Polo did a great job amping up the guest with food, alchol, cigars and live music from DJ Mark Battle and DJ Frank Ski, to tune them into a great experience. The founder of the show stated " This was an amazing weekend, and so far our best Atlanta Fashion & Polo Classic yet". Atlanta is such a great place to host such shows because of how open-minded people who live in and outside of Atlanta is to style and how it changes.
A VIP experience is what anyone would want while choosing a ticket to a show, well the Atlanta Fashion & Polo Classic had the ideal package for guest who chose the option. This option included such a luxurious ride in a Bentley, which was provided by one of the sponsors Bentley Atlanta, after you step off a helicopter ride to the venue. Any major car companies are hard to get sponsored by, but with the past Wilson has with Sid Barron who is the General Manager for Bentley Atlanta, they help each other benefit each others companies. The trade of their businesses has benefited both men, as Wilson contributed Polo blazers to Barrons clients, and in return Barron contributed cars in aid to Wilsons events.
This event is bringing such a light to the Polo Brand, as all its proceeds went to the Ride to the Olympics Foundation, which is a non-profit organization started by Wilson. The Ride to the Olympic Foundation which helps underprivileged youth gain accesses to equestrian sports ; horse riding lessons, horse farm visits, summer camps, and trips to show jumping polo events. As much publicity as this event gets for the brand, it will go to a great cause that will benifit everyone in the long run and help the less fortunate.

Fashion week invades Atlanta
ATLANTA - Brighting up the end of October, Atlanta will be flooding with designers and models to help show off and save money. The thought of saving money is crucial around this time of year, and this show is for the people who want to look good while saving money. Everytime clothing is made it is expensive and harmful to the enviroment, which uses more energy then both aviation and shipping combined. It is important to not just always buy "whats in" but reuse to make new.
Tanjuria Willis is a entrupernuer and event coordinator who owns a consignment Boutique called eKlozet. Willis is hosting fashion week in Atlanta, which will bring in amazing designers, international panelist from the U.K., German, and African fashion council, and pop up boutiques where you can snag the good deals. At the event will also feature Willis's pop up event, that will offer up to 70% off of gentlyl used designer brand clothing. The best thing for the planet is always to reuse and not buy more, which makes this pop up show the perfect solution to reduce the unwanted energy on the earth. Willis states that “Buying secondhand clothing that already exists slows the fashion cycle and keeps clothes out of landfills by giving them new life,”. Her goal is to make this event bright and full of life, and giving customers a easy, low priced shopping experience.
Sustainable Fashion Week Atlanta was inspired by Willis' daughter, which will be a non-profit event to spread awareness about the benefit of reusing old clothing. According to the EPA, 17 billion tons of textile went into landfills, due to clothes being tossed away, which eventually takes 200 years to decompose.
This event will take place October 28th-30th. It will begin with a fashion show and reception, follwoing with a designer meet and greet. To make the halloween weekend special, the last night will fall into a Halloween-themed closing party. Willis gives special thanks to her sponsors, Ackerman & Co, Lee + colleagues at InvestAtlanta and WEI Atlanta. Prices will range from $35 for one day to $150 for a all weekend VIP expierence. Willis will generously feature volunteers and designers that will want to be featured on the runways. Bring your open mind, a few dollars and the ability to learn about the enviroment Halloween weekend to create great memories, while saving the environment.
