Charity of the Semester Goes to .. Loved Twice!
It’s almost that time. Our long-awaited fashion show CONTIUUM is happening this Saturday at the Clark Kerr’s Krutch Theatre. I want to give a shout out to all the designers, models, directors, and FAST members who are all working hard to make this happen. FAST is an amazing organization serving the community of Berkeley students and fashion lovers by providing an opportunity for anyone who wants to exercise their creativity, be it designing clothes, sets, blogging, modeling etc. But beyond just our community, FAST also serves a greater cause. As you all may know, proceeds from ticket sales are donated every semester to a charity. This semester the charity that will be represented is Loved Twice, a non-profit that collects and distributes quality reused baby clothing to newborns who need them.
Tumblr media
Did you know that over 900,000 babies in the US are expected to be born into poverty this year? Loved Twice was founded by Lisa Klein in 2005, after she organized a group of San Francisco Bay Area mothers who donated 200 pounds of baby wear to families impacted by Hurricane Katrina. After realizing how much of an impact she had made, she realized that her passion was helping disadvantaged newborns get the clothing and baby blankets they need to stay warm and feel loved and protected. In FAST, we know the importance of clothing and fashion as a form of self-expression, empowerment, and identity, etc. Well, this also applies to babies! Lisa reminds us the importance of giving back, so besides buying your ticket today, visit their website at http://lovedtwice.org to find out about the multitude of ways you can support the organization’s mission of helping all babies get a better start in life. Some examples include hosting a baby clothing drive, donating baby clothes or volunteering. Let’s make sure that every baby feels as happy as this lil' guy!

Don’t forget, the fashion show is this Saturday! I hope to see you all there!

Tutorial Tuesday: Elephant Key Holder
If you're one of the many people who constantly misplaces their keys, try this trick. Use plastic toy elephants, gold spray paint, and driftwood to make a cute place to hang your keys! It's cost-efficient and extremely easy to make.

Spring/Summer 2014 Ready-To-Wear
Elegance, luxury, grace, perfection. When it comes to these words, whose work would first trigger your brain? Yves Saint Lauren? Chanel? Giorgio Armani? Well, they are amazing.
But… it’s now the time for Elie Saab.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elie Saab’s gowns become the top choice for celebrities to wear for Oscar and are at home on the Hollywood red carpet, creating a brilliant lace garden. This time, in Spring/Summer 2014 Ready-To-Wear collection, this Lebanese designer offered more than the standard Oscar gowns around: one black silk story smothered in black, pink and green sequins had a more upbeat, disco feel than usual, while a black and white print carried green and pink florals growing up from the hem - which gave an edgier, younger feel to the collection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elegant white dress with blossomy green and pink florals is my favorite dress in this collection.

Tie dye and hair crowns are ideal for music festivals, but if you don't want to spend countless dollars on expensive dye, try using kool-aid instead. It could even be a great summer refresher as you work on that DIYed fringe tank to wear to Outside Lands.

Outfit highlights: crop top with high-waist jeans, mirrored sunglasses, beret hat
The necklace, the sunglasses and the floral backpack made this dark-toned outfit both chic and suitable for spring in Berkeley.

“Yves Saint Laurent gave women power, Chanel liberated them and when I joined Lanvin, I thought 'what do I bring to women?' One day, I received an SMS from a friend in New York – she was in a taxi on the way to court to face her arsehole ex-husband, and she said to me 'Alber, I am wearing a Lanvin dress, and I feel so protected.' That to me was the biggest compliment I ever received. To have a 500 gram piece of silk make her feel protected – that made me very happy indeed.”

This is Fashion?
What is fashion? It’s hard to define, but if I pull a random poll anywhere, I don’t think I will get answers related to fast food restaurants, like McDonald. On 2014 FW runway, Moschino successfully caught everyone’s eyes with its McDonald inspired collection. It became a huge hit. Celebrities and fashion bloggers LOVE it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quick poll. Do you think supermarkets have anything to do with fashion? Last month during Paris Fashion Week, Karl Lagerfeld moved a whole supermarket into the Chanel runway, from the goods to the carts, and, of course, Chanel supermarket baskets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe the designers want to the send the message that fashion is everywhere and everything in everyday life. To be honest, sometimes I find it hard to understand fashion. Anyway, hope you had fun reading this!

Throwback Thursday: History of YSL’S Revolutionary Le Smoking
Doing the press rounds of her new film “Noah” recently, Emma Watson was spotted in the tailored suit: Yves Saint Laurent’s groundbreaking Le Smoking tuxedo that debuted in 1966. Other celebrities who love Le Smoking suit include Angelina Julie and Anne Hathaway. Le Smoking is the first tuxedo for women, consisted of a classic dinner jacket in black grain de poudre wool or satin and trousers with a satin side-stripe with a ruffled white shirt, black bow tie and a wide cummerbund of satin. Yves Saint Laurent and his Le Smoking tuxedo were as revolutionary in women fashion as Coco Chanel and her female trousers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Le Smoking was first out, it was so controversial that few respected restaurants or hotels allowed female guest to wear them inside. For those who held traditional views on female attire, Le Smoking and other formal dining attire trousers were as unsuitable as a bathing suit. Fortunately, the second wave feminism in from 60s to 80s promoted the equality between women and men, allowing more people to accept and to wear women suit. Nowadays, Le Smoking is still a hot pick of celebrities in all kinds of events, and these commercial photos taken back in 1966 still look stunning.

The sun is coming out and so should these. Add a kick to your boring old sunglasses with this tutorial! All you need is nail stickers, clear nail polish, sunglasses, scissors, q tips and nail polish remover. This is a great tutorial for all those leftover scraps after you're done glamming up your nails.  Post by Ilaf

Louis Vuitton Spring 2014 Ready-to-Wear
Marc Jacobs’ last runway show of his sixteen-year tenure at the LVMH-owned house. The staging of the show recreated many of the sets he has built for Louis Vuitton: the elevators, the escalators, the carousel, the fountain, and last season’s hotel corridors. This time, Jacobs dedicated the all-black collection to the many women who have touched and influenced him during his decade, including muses Coco Chanel, Rei Kawakubo and Miuccia Prada.
Tumblr media
Among the forty-one looks, some more than others resembled showgirl clothes, but nearly all of them were elaborately ornamented with combinations of jet beads, crystals, and glossy feathers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Extravagant Stephen Jones-designed headpiece of ostrich plumes
Tumblr media
Naked save for a G-string and the Stephen Sprouse-designed LV logo scrawled all over her body, Edie Campbell made her runway circuit in handcuffs and chains. Among the many challenges that will face Jacobs' successor at Vuitton, when he or she is eventually named, will be living up to a fearless, fabulous moment like that.
