Kusunoki Mebuki is A Hero: Ch. 2
Let's see...
Oh, it's Sensei. Funny how ever since WaSuYu, the franchise has more or less made her the sole face of the Taisha.
Hooooo boy. Her outward behavior might be different, but on the inside Mebuki still has a looooong way to go.
Oh? Is that a conscience stirring there?
Ah, it's still mostly just about herself, then.
Okay, now that's a bit silly. I guess that's another 'distancing' thing, but it's still a bit much.
I had an inkling in chapter 1, but I'm definitely smelling an OT3 here.
Or, in other words, they're the main characters.
Well, we know for sure she has the qualifications to be a hero now.
Apparently this is a mobile game thing? Hmm.
Come to think of it, how do fish work in this world? Skipjack are migratory, and can't be farmed. There isn't anywhere for them to come in from, there's no water out there. And what happens when the fish swim away? Do they flop out onto the lava? Do they cease to exist? I mean, unless the wall extends all the way down to the seafloor. But it doesn't extend all the way up. That makes me wonder about birds. Have we seen birds in this franchise? What's to stop some pigeon from flying into the Hellscape? Do the stardust eat birds?
Dorks. But I bet you won't be very happy to hear that.
Gin? Yet another kid super fucked up by WaSuYu.
Oh boy. This feels like it won't be handled well.
The call of the Himedere: Mode Tsun.
Yeah, the Shinju never makes mistakes. What's that? Revoking powers? Death? Chi-who?

Kusunoki Mebuki is A Hero: Ch. 1
Here we are, on the home stretch. One last piece of media to close off the franchise. KuMeYu. I'll be honest, I don't have the highest of hopes, after all, it's new characters working in the background of the main story, but still, I'm in it to win it.
Now, this is interesting. It's almost like a more militarized and standardized version of the post fairy hero outfits. Not sure what the deal is. Meanwhile, I can see that one of them has a big shield, and presumably the protagonist just has a fucking sawed-off shotgun. Well, whatever works. Far left is giving me Mami vibes for some reason. Oh, and the numbers. 20, 119? Honestly the aesthetic gives me mass production vibes, if not for the fact that that doesn't make any sense in this non-scifi context.
Hm, this would be... right after S1, then?
32 is a heck of a lot more than any other team in this franchise. Why does the main muscle never get numerical superiority like this?
Oh, so it's a Karin-type scenario? Except unlike Karin she didn't make it on the team.
Well, the title of your LN seems to disagree with you there.
So, I guess its their job to slow down the regeneration of the vertexes, so that the heroes don't have to fight them over and over again back-to-back?
The fact that they have a procedure for doing that means yet another blatant lie from the Taisha. "Only 12" indeed. The bastards knew all along they'd keep regenerating forever.
...gathering? What is... gathering? Seems to me like they gather up themselves just fine. And that would be a bad thing anyway. So what is the real meaning of "gathering"?
Ah, gathering samples. Still, given everything in Hero Chapter, it doesn't seem like it helped at all in the end.
One more thing that the Sentinals lack compared to the heroes, camaraderie. The title character especially seems to despise everyone she's teamed up with.
Oh my, did she literally lose her place to Karin?
Oh. Gin. Then I'm right on the money.
That's exactly why Mebuki lost. Especially since it's Gin's terminal we're talking about. Looks like she needs some growing into being not a selfish ass.
I think that what she's missing is that being a hero isn't like being an Olympic athlete. A hero, above all else, is 'one who saves others'.
Sounds like a certain tsundere's original situation.
Hm, I remember coming across a 'fact' once, someone saying that 'post-Season 2, the normal hero system is discarded and replaced by a system where a large number of girls can play the role of a hero en masse, trading power for numbers'. It turned out to be impossible, but I guess this is where that idea came from before getting distorted.
Hoo boy. I feel like, if she ever runs into post-S1 Karin (a scenerio that would feel kinda cheap in terms of 'secretly this happened offscreen' but eh) it's going to be a disaster.
omg lol
rizz of the fallen."for some reason" indeed. gee mebuki, why'd the Taisha let you have 4 girlfriends
That being said, they probably still have assigned flowers, right? If not here then probably somewhere in the mobile game, yeah?

So, here we are. Shinju's dead, and either it had the power to kill all the heavenly gods all along and decided instead to sacrifice little girls for hundreds if not thousands of years rather than fight on its own, or we end what could be the end of the entire franchise with an inevitable fight with the only possible support being the scattered land gods we don't know even survived the sea of fire in the first place. Either one is less than satisfying. That being said, it at least resolved SOME things better than I expected. Hero Spirit Bomb and following through with the whole "dying" thing are an improvement over them brushing it off. All in all, it was a bizarrely paced season. There's several HUGE conflicts, all happening at the same time, not enough time to develop and drop hints for how to resolve said conflicts, and there's threads, like the system change, that are totally dropped by the end. Somewhat enjoyable, but not exactly great.
According to my sponsor*, there's one final installment for me to experience. KuMeYu. I'll admit, I'm a little put off at finishing with a secondary team, but it is how it is.
Til then.
*galpal(?)

Regardless of the issues, this is still a good shot.

Good tenet. A bit frustrating it needed to be explicitly stated, though.

Yooo, Teach, what happened to your eeeeyeeee? Did it get turned to saaaand? Does that mean that most of the Taisha are saaaaand now?

Iiiiis it, though? Is it really? WaSuYu and NoWaYu have already showed us that even mildly divinely empowered people can get super bodied by Vertexes past a certain point. And, see last post. This is still going to be a problem moving forward.

Okay, so discounting for a moment that it was spreading its roots when it was 'dying', this is kind of a problem.
Unless we like, dig up Suwako and all the other gods that didn't want to be a tree, we're left with two important facts: the Heavenly Gods still want to kill everyone and the only for sure still-existing way to fight back against them is gone now. I'm assuming that that wave didn't ALSO take the Heavenly gods with it, because if it could do THAT all along I'm side-eying it making humans suffer through the apocalypse for a bajillion years instead.
So, yeah, we've solved it for now, but now we're kinda fucked in the long run, since, y'know, Ammy & co could still set everything on fire again given time.

...what part of "about to die" vibes with "about to grow enough to encompass the entire fucking earth? was the shinju actually just lying to the taisha because it was being a selfish bitch that wanted the new Yuuna model to add to its collection or something

Right, the Shinju. Is it gonna die now? The Mankai -> Senge thing has been a pretty constant symbolism, and it is blooming...
Also, we haven't actually done anything to save it.

So, uh, does extinguish the outside world and thus end her curse? Cause, I've gotta say, the Taisha were making it sound a LOT more complicated than "punch a lightbulb really hard until it breaks".
