ellie followed after skylar without a word. she stayed close, trailing just a few steps behind skylar as her sister made her escape. skylar looked like she was about to come apart at the seams and she couldn't help but want to keep her together. she climbed into the passenger seat and shut the door with a soft click. the car remained off — no radio or other noise — just the growing tension in the air between them. eliana sat with her hands in her lap, fingers clasped together tightly as she observed skylar's profile. don't be mad. ellie blinked. her voice, when it came, was softer than the air around them. "i'm worried about you, sky," she began, her voice a gentle whisper. "we've spent so much time apart already...i don't want you to shut me out." her entire life eliana finch had wanted nothing more than to protect her siblings and it was a task that she'd failed at time and time and time again. however, that didn't stop ellie from desperately wanting to bear the burdens that her siblings carried with them. jasper, maren and sky — all three of them carried so much pain and hurt and while skylar hid it better than jasper or maren, ellie had always been able to see right through her masks. "i can handle it. whatever it is you don't have to carry it alone anymore, okay?" ellie reached out a hand and placed it over one of skylar's own on the steerling wheel, trying to gently coax her into releasing her grip. "what's going on, pup?"
Skylar pulled her hand away from her sister's, shifting on her feet as she debated what she should do. Deflecting and attacking seemed like a good option. It was her go-to move, usually. But not with her older sister. Eliana had a habit of seeing right through her. Something that was jarring to someone like Skylar, who spent a long time building this very big wall around herself. Her arms crossed over her chest instead, eyes darting towards the door like she might make a run for it. Another fine option. "Fine. But I'm not doing this here." She turned on her heels to make her way out the door, expecting Ellie to follow.
Down the front steps, Sky made a b-line for the car and sat herself in the driver's seat. Her hands wrapped around the wheel, knuckles going white like she was considering driving away and leaving her sister behind. But she didn't. She didn't even turn on the car. She just waited for her sister to get into the passenger seat and stared straight ahead. "Don't be mad." Her words were slow. Deliberate and controlled. She was anything but. She'd never said the words out loud before. And she didn't know where to start.

marisela's lips curved into a faint smirk against ender's skin, thoroughly pleased by the kiss-shaped smudge that now marked her. her heart clenched at the ghost's words and the sincerity behind them. safe. marisela didn't think that was something she still had the luxury of being. not since wally came to town or her magic had gone on the fritz. he knew where she was now and portum was simultaenously her haven and her prison. the witch let out an amused chuckle at ender's admission, affection bubbling up in her chest. "those 'portaloos' as you call them, querida, are disgusting," she whispered with a playful smirk. "but i hope you know the feeling is mutual. i'd burn portum to the ground if it meant i could keep you safe." she understood how ghosts work, knew that there was some unfinished business that kept their souls tied to this plane. and marisela knew it was selfish and wrong, but she wanted nothing more than to keep ender from vanishing into thin air one day. what had started as a mere flirtation was quickly deepening into something much more serious. it was the reason that marisela was conducting research of her own into ways to protect a ghost, ways to keep ender from completely disappearing from existence one day. if she had to tap into the darker sides of her magic, then so be it. marisela stroked a finger along ender's cheek and then pressed a kiss underneath her jaw. "i think i'm safest when i'm with you, anyways," she whispered into her ear.
ender offered a gentle smile, one of reassurance and promise. however long the ghost had left on that side of the afterlife, she wanted to spend it with marisela — finding the truth, helping her stay safe, and sharing as many kisses as they could cram into the days, weeks, months, maybe even years she had before her unfinished business was resolved. what was ender’s unfinished business ? she had once thought it had been finding her brother, then she thought she was meant to find love … but as the first seedlings of affection bloomed between her and the witch she discovered it was neither of those things. so why was she still here ? “i know you don’t,” the ghost soothed, pressing her — now tangible — hand against marisela’s lips so she was left with a neat little lipstick imprint. “but i think it’s important to talk about. as much as i want to rip all your clothes off and take you into the portaloos, it’s more important to me that you’re safe.”

nyra stepped out of the brush, unbothered by the crack of twigs that had given her away. she raised both hands in mock surrender, her voice laced with dry amusement. "relax. not a shoe, just a wolf with bad timing." the shadows fell soft over her features, her damp curls frizzy from the humidity still in the air. nyra kept her distance, not out of fear, but just an instinctual wariness that she'd developed over the years. her gaze flicked to the cigarette and then back to the gorgon. "didn't mean to startle you." she paused and then tilted her head to the side. nyra crossed her arms and voiced the question that had been filling her mind, her tone cautious. "can't sleep?" she asked. she should've been making her way home herself, but she couldn't help but feel the itch of something under her skin. not quite the need to shift, but the need to remain vigilant and alert -- like something was coming.
status : open [0/3] where : the edges of the woods, just after the bonfire.
the lighter made a metallic snap as she flicked it open. the flame a modest, somewhat feeble affair compared to the dwindling inferno that was the bonfire but a short distance away. her cigarette between her fingers blazed as she took a slow, luxurious drag. her gaze venturing upwards towards the stars that peeked out between the canopy of the forest. old, familiar friends. though she would never admit it, she loved nights like these. nights when the town came together. celebrating yet another year of helen aldersley's sanctuary. the pessimist in her, the one that had drawn her away from the revelry and warmth of the crowd, wondered how many more they had. how many more they could afford before it all came crashing down around them. the cigarette flared again, longer this time as she inhaled another lungful of nicotine laced smoke and closed her eyes against it all. any other year, she would have been at least a dozen glasses deep by now, buzzing on cheap alcohol, the thrum of the live music and making solid headway with her next poor decision. instead she was out here, on the fringes of it all, lingering after the bonfire had ended, navel gazing and preparing for the worst. waiting for the inevitable fuckery to descend. summer nights like this were a gift, yet she was the bitch that always needed to keep the receipt. always needed to --- there was a snap. a crack of twigs, sharp and distinct behind her. her head turned, eyes opening to adjust to the deeper darkness that lay beyond the dwindling glow of the firelight. she exhaled slowly, letting the smoke coil up around her features as she called out. "if you're a shoe looking to drop, you can fuck right off. come back during office hours."

at kanda's whispered yes, ellie felt herself grinning despite herself. the sound was so soft it could've been blown away by the wind, but ellie heard it. she would always hear kanda. it seemed that kanda could also read her just as well, if the tentative hold? was anything to go by. “yeah, if that's okay?" ellie nodded shyly, her cheeks already warm. gently, she held out her hand and carefully and slowly before their fingers brushed. she so carefully linked their hands, watching kanda's expressions to make sure she was still comfortable. the moment their hands locked, it felt like a fuse being lit, spreading up her arm like sunlight cracking through the dense forest. all at once it hit her. feelings. kanda's feelings. ellie inhaled sharply as the pure, unguared and frankly overwhelming emotion surged over her like a tidal wave. and suddenly she knew. not just that kanda liked her but she could feel all that and more. the affection, the nerves, the awe, the fear — it was so much but ellie just held on tighter, her eyes widening even more. it was a kind of feeling that she had never been on the receiving end of before. “oh,” she gasped, not in fear or confusion, but simply in wonder. “kanda… you—" ellie paused to take a shaky breath before she explained further. “werewolves…when we touch we can sometime… build this kind of empathic connection,” her eyes glittered with a mixture of shyness and hope that she didn't quite know what to do with, full of softness and understanding. “i didn't realize you felt like that.”
kanda watched , spellbound , as ellie took in what they had picked. did she know what it meant ? more than the long description on the card. did she know what it meant to kanda ? their hands shook slightly , curled into fists , as they rested limply by her side. i'll wear it always. kanda couldn't help it. a small , overwhelmed smile played on their face. it couldn't be kept inside after hearing such a precious revelation. it felt as special as eliana sending pictures to her so she wouldn't have to make herself sick with worry. they ducked their head to not let it show , because it was embarrassing , how much they felt at that moment. at the suggestion of creating a memory , kanda's eyes flickered up to the other again. "yes." it was hardly more than a whisper , but kanda felt it was important for ellie to hear. that they wanted the connection , that they were making an effort. "how ?" the twitch of eliana's hand made her pause , heat flooding their cheeks. "h-hold ?" the question felt even scarier than coming to the bonfire , the promise of flames enough to make her knees weak. eliana wanted to hold her hand. she was sure of it.

marisela coughed though the fading smog, her lungs still heavy with it. her fingers trembled, stained at the edges as if dipped in ink. the pain was still there but the danger seemed to have passed. thanks to wally. her head snapped in his direction where she found him sprawled on the floor, his eyes glowing like they were doused with flame. that was something she'd never seen before but she could barely do more than make a mental note to address it later. her throat tightened as she tried to calm her racing heart. "portum's magic is acting like a damn rabid animal lately and..." marisela's voice was hoarse as she trailed off. Sitting up straighter, still cradling her hand to her chest as if it would start spewing dark magic again. her gaze locked in on the spot where the orb had once been hovering. "i lost control." the admission stung more than the burning of her skin. "i was trying to contain it," she insisted, her eyes connecting with wally's once more. "i was trying to stop it from bleeding out. from hurting anyone. from calling to him." that was true fear that tainted her words and marisela h a t e d that she felt that way. she had always been a confident and self-assured person. but the one thing that struck fear in her heart was losing control. especially on her magic like that. "thank you," she said to him after a moment. “you didn't have to do that, you know. not that i'm not grateful, but… why did you?” wally had seen too much and her stubborn pride felt cracked. marisela's mind began racing, already trying to figure out how to keep it from happening again. she stood up from the floor and went to her kitchen where some of her spellbooks lay open on the table. she flexed her fingers that still puled faintly with something dark and volatile. "have you ever seen anything like that before? or heard of it?" she could research in her books, but having a better starting point would be useful.
wally had just left second chances after teddy helped him with his shirt problem when smelled smoke in the air. it wasn't smoke from cooking (he'd know), nor was it smoke from a burning building, but smoke that smelled like money or plastic being burned. he knew exactly what this was. immediately, wally teleported to where marisela was, thanking his lucky stars that his powers didn't take him to somewhere completely far off. he was in an enclosed room, and there he saw marisela hunched on the floor, grasping her own hand as an inky black orb hovered over it. strong smog-like winds and smaller objects circled rapidly around the room. it was like wally was inside a tornado. placing his tote bag on the outside of the room, wally crouched and quickly made his way towards marisela's hand. "marisela are you okay?!" he yelled over the howling winds. realizing that they couldn't properly communicate over the noise, wally decided he had to deal with the situation at hand. he was beyond nervous. his father told him that he would be able to handle whatever black magic marisela would throw at him, but wally had never done anything like this before. with the magic within portum going awry, his chances were even slimmer. still, he placed his hands around the black orb, shaking as he resists its pull. all of a sudden, wally's eyes glowed golden. a radiant light emerged from his hands, encasing the black orb in an almost glass-like translucent ball. restrained, the black orb peters out, the wind stops, and the golden ball dissipates. panting, wally falls to the floor, eyes still golden. “what the fuck was that?!”

she found herself smiling without realizing it. ender, who was the first being she ran to after her discovery in the forest, who had listened patiently as marisela paced back and forth trying to process what she'd seen. the witch felt her cool touch on the back of her hand and lifted their joint hands to press a kiss to the back of ender's hand. it seemed she was more corporal today. this wasn't exactly the setting marisela had in mind when she pictured their second date, but she couldn't help but be thankful that she had her at her side. marisela could be deeply selfish and ender was quickly becoming someone she didn't want to do without. "and that's why you're my favorite," marisela teased, her eyes glittering playfully. "i don't want them to dictate our evening though. i'm spending the evening with a beautiful woman and even they can't put a damper on that."
it wasn’t the ideal second date. ender gazed at the gorgeous woman that, by some miracle, had stuck by her side after their first encounter, and cursed the council for putting them in such a situation. they should have been at a fancy bar, or the club, or walking barefoot along the sand … instead she was steeped with anger and distrust, and marisela was the listening ear she had so desperately needed. there had never been a second where she hadn’t believed the woman. her panic, the fear in her eyes, had struck ender where her heart used to be. “i know. i believe you,” she whispered, reaching out and resting her cold hand against the witch’s, “i’m in your corner. nobody can convince me not to be.”

nyra let out a sound that was somewhere between a scoff and a laugh as she grabbed his hands. "no, i really don't," she argued, though there was still the barest hint of amusement tugging the. corners of her mouth. "but i figured this was more productive than pacing like a caged animal or punching people out." the she-wolf started bouncing around in place to the music, guiding him more than leading. "i've seen you move...you're almost graceful when you're not being a pain in the ass," she said with a grin she knew he would feel more than see.
since liam's senses were in overdrive, nyra's voice made him jump. it felt rough and frustrated , very unlike the joyous yet sharp tone the werewolf would normally use. "you sound delightful ," liam replied sarcastically. "you have a lovely outlook on life." liam saw her shadow get bigger , get closer , and then felt her hands take a hold of his. "dance ?" a small smirk played on his lips. "i guess you don't need to see to dance. you have no idea what you've started , wolfie."

nyra inhaled sharply as the words hit her harder than any blow. i killed her. the weight of them settled in her chest like stone and her heart thudded in her ears. the words didn't make any sense. "what?" she whispered, blinking repeatedly. nyra whirled around as remy pushed passed her and outside. she was moving before she could think, chasing after her friend. "keep everyone inside," she snapped over her shoulder, her voice calm and firm. one of her coworkers started to protest, but nyra just flashed her gold eyes in their direction. "i've got this, just do what i say." she made it outside in time to see remington drop to her knees, the change tearing through her. nyra could see how it was all too much — too much pain, too much guilt, too much everything. nyra could only watch the tremble in remington's limbs and nodded. "you always were dramatic," she said softly, in an attempt to bring some lightheartedness into the situation. "need i remind you that i was always the better fighter?" nyra's gaze glowed gold once again as her own muscles tensed in preparation. "if you need to let it out, do it. i can take it. you're safe with me, rem. i won't let you hurt anyone...including yourself."
Remington looked up at her, teeth grounding out her rage, but her eyes said something different—pain. “I killed her… blacked out after you left without a goodbye. It hurt so bad.” Remington groaned at the memories flooding her mind, eyes blazing amber as her wolf clawed to get out, “Nyra, I never got to say goodbye to either of you. Everything was just gone. I woke up naked in the woods alone.”
Remington pushed past her and through the door, dropping to her knees on the other side as a growl ripped through her chest. “I loved you both so fucking much and you were gone.”
Her body lurched forward almost too far into the change to stop. Her breathing quickened as she fought it back. “I don’t want to hurt you, but I can’t stop. Hope you can take me.”

ellie bit her lip as she watched kanda so carefully pick out a thread and charm for her. a small heart. she could feel her pulse racing and she smiled as they tied the bracelet off. it was such a tender gift that ellie didn't even know how to begin processing it. in the time she and kanda had been getting to know each other, the time they'd spent together, they'd developed their own way of communicating. ellie was learning to be more comfortable with kanda's silence and kanda found ways to communicate with her in return. it was funny how words usually came so easy to her, but now she struggled to find the right ones. her gaze lifted to meet kanda's, so wide and vulnerable that ellie swore she felt something in her chest crack at the side. ellie's own gaze was soft and open and just so full of feeling. she felt her cheeks flushing as she looked down at her wrist and gently caressed the charm. "it's perfect," she said quietly, just for kanda's ears. "thank you. i'll wear it always." ellie looked at the wrist where kanda wore their own charm and her fingers twitched. she wanted to hold kanda's hand, but she made it a point to let kanda set the boundaries of their physicality. "did you want to take a picture with both our charms?" she asked, almost shyly.
kanda nodded quietly at the question. they wanted ellie to pick because ellie knew things. knew how to put words together , knew that kanda sometimes ( always ) didn't. kanda trusted eliana to know what they might want to wear. maybe that was childish and naive , but to kanda it was true. an ugly warmth spread through her chest and the pitter patter of their heart did nothing to stop it. they liked ellie so much it felt like they were going to explode. the sun. kanda wasn't the quickest at making connections , but there was some obvious symbolism that even they could see. they kept their gaze firmly on eliana's hands as she tied it around their wrist and it burned almost as feverishly hot against their skin as the real thing. burned as hot as kanda's cheeks felt like they did. her turn. kanda sucked in a breath and looked at the large collection of charms in front of them. the words blurred together , so instead kanda chose to focus on the shapes and symbols of the beads. in the end they quietly picked up a small charm , a sunny yellow thread and refused to look at eliana as they wrapped it around her wrist. once it was safely tied together they quickly removed their hands and just looked. a stone polished in the shape of a small heart. kanda could feel hers pounding in her ears. a quiet hum left their lips and it almost surprised her. they looked up with wide eyes , scared of what they'd find looking back at her.

nyra didn't look over right away, just tilted her head slightly in his direction. she raised an eyebrow, silently debating whether the man beside her was actually talking to her or not. her arms were crossed, stance relaxed but guarded — the stance of someone who'd learned that too many times charm often came with a catch. "you kiss all of your victims before you rob them blind?" she asked dryly, giving him a onceover. "i'll pass on the 'smooch' as you call it, but i'll take a drink."
SETTING — the bonfire , unspecified location ( dealer’s choice ) , open starter
— I love pretending nothing is happening, it’s my favorite activity after picking up unsuspecting wallets and kissing sad, beautiful faces. — He commented to the person beside him, with a charming and playful demeanor. — What’s it gonna be for you today? We can talk about the weather and pretend nothing is happening, or I can pick your wallet when you’re not looking. I can also buy you a drink and offer a little smooch for your troubles. — He raised his eyebrows and put his hands inside his pockets, with a boyish smile.

ellie blinked repeatedly, her head tilting in confusion at his initial question. she wasn't a fighter by any means and the closest she'd ever come was when she'd stepped between her father and maren the night of the accident. it had been pure instinct that had driven her to stand between them and not back down until their father decided to redirect his focus on relocating the family. she laughed softly — a self-depracating smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. ellie could still hear her father's disappointment about how much of a fighter she wasn't. "not really," she admitted quietly, like the confession was something she was ashamed of. "i mean, i shift when i need to, when it's instinct, with the moon — my body takes over before i can think twice about it," eliana shrugged her shoulders. "as far as using it? i don't fight. not like that." the blonde shook her head, feeling strands of her hair brush against her cheek. ellie's thumb brushed over a scar along the side of her hand absentmindedly. "the wolf...i think she knows how to keep me safe, i just don't always know how to let her, y'know? if that makes sense."
there was good in all people. fletcher was starting to realise that, after a decade of fighting and coming face - to - face with the scourges of the earth. maybe they too had only been searching for safety, for a roof over their head and salvation ; fletcher was one of the lucky ones, and it seemed that eliana was too. “i’ve come across much scarier than you. i think i can handle it,” he chuckled in response. he was a dragon, a man of fire and scales with decades of never ending life stretching out ahead of him. even if the wolf was to turn, he was sure he could fend off a puppy until sunrise. she reminded him of his sister. paisley was younger than he was, but had been raised with the same harshness — a need to stay in line, to remain firmly on the path to success regardless of what she really wanted. he had been surrounded by women growing up ; great women, like his mother and sister and karina. without them, the little thread of softness that fletcher carried in his chest would have withered long ago. “i don’t intend to be the first one,” he replied, folding his arms over his chest as he waited. but he also didn’t want her to hold back. the winds in portum were changing, something was happening that was beyond their control. if eliana did have a strong bite, if she had claws made to maim devour and destroy, he needed her to know that the very thing that made her monstrous was also her greatest protection. “do you know how to use it ? ” fletcher asked after a moment, pausing before adding, “the wolf, i mean. do you know how to use it to keep you safe ? ”

ellie's eyebrows knit together, a crease forming between them as she glanced over at xem. she had been standing off on the sidelines, just enjoying the ambiance. she fidgeted with her long sleeves that were pulled up over her knuckles. there was concern in her eyes, but not the same kind as cristian's. "i don't know," she said pensively. "i think maybe they're just scared too. and overwhelmed. like the rest of us." her voice was so soft and gentle, lacking judgement and laced with the kind of hope only someone who still wanted to believe that there was goodness out there. "i don't think they've been quiet because they don't care. maybe they just don't know what to say." eliana bit her lip as she glanced out at the crowds mingling around the bonfire. "i mean, it's not like they're magic proof. whatever's happening, it can harm them too." she turned her too wide eyes onto xem and blinked. "do you really think they're behind all of it?" she asked in a whisper, almost scared to say the words too loud.
portum annual bonfire, ft. open
“ do the council really think we can be so easily distracted ? ” cristian says derisively, standing well back from the actual celebrations. “ they have spent almost half a year saying nothing about one misfortune after another, and now they want to move on with life as if nothing has happened ? ” xe is seriously contemplating moving, going back to wandering the oceans, if only because the only drama out there is what you make for yourself. “ i would not be surprised if they were the ones who performed some illicit ritual in the forest, at this point. ”

nyra felt someone collide into her shoulder and instinctively reached out to steady them both. the apology reached her ears and nyra's posture relaxed at the sound of her friend's voice. "dani!" she greeted, her lips tugging into a smile. "you're fine, i've taken worse hits." her gaze flicked across the bonfire and the mood that fought to remain bright despite all the trials the citizens of portum had been put through lately. "yeah, i didn't think i'd be up for it either, but..." she shrugged, and looked at her friend's face. "figured if the world's gonna fall apart, i might as well get a drink first. what about you?"
( ↻ ) at this rate , dani feels like she’ll get whiplash at just how quickly some residents were able to let loose for the night . sure it probably won’t kill them ( fingers crossed ) but it doesn’t sit well with the wolf . regardless , she tries her best to enjoy herself . she engages in conversation . and when it started to get overwhelming , she excuses herself to make way to the nearest beer keg . in her haste , she bumps into another person . “ oh i’m so sorry ! ” she grimaces . “ nyra , hey ! i wasn’t sure if you were gonna show . having fun ? ”

the sound of liam's voice had her turning sharply in his direction. she grinned wolfishly although she knew it would be hard for him to see. nyra shifted her rhythm to sway a little closer to where liam stood. "now, why would i be frustrated?" she called back over the music. "it's not like my life is in shambles, or everything is falling apart around us." she continued twirling around him as the too truthful words continued spilling out. nyra stepped forward and clasped liam's hands in her own. “did you wanna dance, fishboy?”
as the darkness fell , so did liam's vision. this wasn't unusual , liam usually relied on seeing the shapes around him , as well as using his other senses to navigate the world. how normal people did it , he'd never know. liam kept close to the fire , the bright light making it easier to see what was happening as the sun set. wild shapes danced in front of his eyes and the movements seemed like painted pictures. liam's sense of smell was in overdrive , smoke and fire and laughter in overdrive. still , some scents were familiar. "hi , wolfie ," he called out , not at all unsure if it was nyra dancing close to him. "is that a hint of frustration i smell ?"

marisela let out a sharp exhale that was more scoff than breath and didn't bother hiding the eyeroll that followed. she'd been sifting aimlessly through the pieces of string and beads that lay before her. she'd been so lost in thought she hadn't noticed ender at first, and when the young woman's voice broke through the sea of her thoughts, marisela smiled. "oh querida, they can hang all the damn streamers they want," she began, turning her body to properly face the ghost. "but i know what i saw. and i'm not buying one second of all of this."

it was bullshit. everything was bullshit. the banners and the flags, the decoration and the music — were these idiots really buying the council’s lies ? did they truly believe that everything was fine ? she had known her fair share of shitty governments, but this really took the cake. so much so that she could barely focus on threading the round, glass beads she had picked out onto her stretch of thread. instead, she opened her phone and started to mindlessly scroll. it was a better use of everyone’s time. “are you looking for a way to make this bearable, too ? ” she asked, “or are you actually buying all this ? ”

eliana tilted her head, caught between amusement and concern, and folded her arms loosely over her chest. there was something so vaguely familiar about the girl in front of her that she couldn't quite place. she was like the static in the air before a storm — a little sharp around the edges, but she hadn't been cruel. at least, not yet. "not exactly," she replied with a soft laugh. "i think there's a bit of limited space for banjo reviews in the paper these days." she noted when the melody changed, slower and more melancholic. ellie didn't miss the shift or the accent. she took a careful step forward, leaving just enough space to show she wasn't trying to box the newcomer in. "how long have you been in town? finding your way around, okay?" she asked. she wasn't the type to press, and ellie knew everyone who would up in portum had a story they didn't want to tell just yet.
"What gave it away?" she asked dryly, because it must've been a little obvious to those who lived in a town like this. Wasn't this one of those places you saw in the movies where everyone knew everyone, and there was a weird... overly cheerful, neighbourly attitude that people used with each other? In a town like that, surely Íde would've been the last person to know that she'd ended up here.
Especially because the banjo was entirely a ploy to make a memorable entrance. Possibly a form of comfort too, but mostly to stand out.
"Eliana, hm? Let me guess, you're some kind of banjo critic for the local paper?"
She was still playing while she spoke, though the lapse in her focus changed the melody significantly, shifting into something slower and somehow more sombre. Perhaps the werewolf would be able to notice the distinctly Irish flavour to her plucking, or she'd certainly pick up on the accent.
Absolutely the kind, welcoming type. Íde made a mental note of it — of the demeanour of this Eliana — and figured it was better to play nice with this one and use her kindness to learn a few things, at the very least.
"Thanks. I've got fuck all else to do right now, so... banjo it is. Let's call it busking,"

ellie hadn't meant to sneak up on them, but when she'd noticed her co-worker, she couldn't help but gravitate toward him without thinking. they hadn't had many shifts together, but ellie still thought they were very kind. as dakota started, ellie jumped as well, a startled laugh escaping her lips. "sorry! i swear i wasn't trying to be spooky," she said, holding both hands up in mock surrender. "you'd think the werewolf would make more noise." her gaze followed them as he slung the tote over their shoulder. she smiled softly at the invitation. "sure! i have a few minutes to spare, and i haven't really done the whole exploring thing either," ellie grinned and motioned for dakota to lead the way. "after you, i trust your judgement...for now."
LOCATION: portum's annual bonfire, food and drink stand. FOR: open!
THERE WAS STILL A chill in the air -- not just as the small town stood on the line between winter and spring, but there was something amiss in their universe. that's the way it had always felt, from the moment they had found themselves in town. that they were in their own universe. while dakota is a quiet individual, soft-spoken and mild-mannered, the last thing they wanted to do was stay home with everything going on, more particularly alone. their roommate had mentioned the bonfire with a rather flippent attitude, believing full well that he would never have it within him to go. thus, finding his comfort zone behind a service counter. it's a volenteer position, not that he minds. it's a much needed distraction, and dakota was always happy to help -- out of the kindness of your heart.
fingers clasp around the collection of drinks as they hand them off to one of their final customers of their shift, their customer service smile apparent. " there ya go... enjoy. " dakota nods, pausing before offering a wave as they dissipate into the crowd. a handful of seconds soon pass before they return their focus to the rest of their surroundings. " shit -- " they gasp, a hand flying to his chest before bursting into laughter. it's clear that their startled, but certainly not angered by the thought of seeing a familiar face. " you scared me... but then again, i'd jump out of my skin at everything. " they sling their denim tote over their shoulder. " i'm all done... if you wanna explore this place with me. i just went straight for the stand. "
