I’m not sure that the Economy should be the #1 issue in the election.
Presidents take too much credit and get too much blame for economic conditions. Yes, Americans were better off from 2016 to the beginning of 2020. And Trump was still president until January 2021. Yes, we got a tax cut. Who paid for that? I guess no one. The debt did. However, everyone seems to forget that the world was reeling from the effects of the Covid pandemic, which started in January of 2020! I surmise that our current economic conditions were destined to get much worse from that. Remember, Trump briefly shut the country down. He signed the first stimulus checks. Who paid for that? Those who got them certainly weren’t complaining, were they? And yet, I feel that he felt he did what he thought was right. Funny, everyone seems to forget about that. But supply chains were crippled in 2020. Materials, food, oil, and commodities were hard to come by. Sadly, companies lost lots of money. Many went out of business. Companies had an extremely hard time finding employees! Nobody was spending much money. Price gouging was rampant. Companies and businesses needed to raise prices to make up for what they lost during that time! Who should we blame for that? That period of time directly affected most businesses the next few years. The Biden administration inherited a dire situation. I don’t believe any president caused this. And then inflation came along. Interest rates rose and rose and rose in the hopes that our country wouldn’t go into a deep depression. Should we blame Trump, what about Biden? Again, I don’t think so. I’d like to believe that both administrations tried doing the right thing. It has taken until this year for inflation to finally come down, but most prices of goods will never go back to the way they were. Go way back in history. Some of you older folks might recall the prices of things. I remember in the 60’s gas prices in my home town was $.19/gallon! Prices stay at their current level and will always go up. Interest rates are falling. This past week the Fed lowered interest rates a half of percent. Another drop of a half of percent is expected before the end of the year. Should Biden get credit for this? Absolutely not! This is basic economics 101. I think this country has weathered this sad pandemic pretty well. Certainly better than most.
Bottom line - I’m not voting because of the economy. Others, will disagree and that’s ok! We all have the right to have our beliefs and to vote how you feel. I will consider who will keep us safe. Who will help preserve our democracy. Which candidate mirrors my character and my beliefs. I am keeping in mind Matthew 7-15 in scripture that says…”You will know them by their fruit! And I’m not that sure that whoever is elected, not much will change in my life unless I allow it to. Each person has the ability to affect and change the quality of their own lives. Let’s help one another. Let’s not be envious of those who have more than us. More money, more toys, a better job. Let’s not be bitter because some people who are in poverty seem to get all the handouts out of our hard earned taxed dollars. Sure, some scam the system. But many need a leg up. It’s not for us to judge. There is only one Judge! My faith has proven to me that by giving you shall receive. The Sermon on the Mount tells us all we need to know! Read it and live it!
