♢♦♢♦ ▬ her excuse was the least of her concern       interest at best. “here’s the thing, i don’t give a shit about her who started what,” she once again motioned between the two, “just cut the shit out in my bar.” she needn’t be told twice, for she quickly found her spot back behind the bar, immediately attending to the patrons patiently awaited their poison of choice. “jones, you heard her,” her hues remained fixated on the drinks she was mixing, “grab the woman a second round.” with that, jade finally looked up, shooting the woman a wink before handing out the designated drinks.

“ i — sorry. ” mari felt her body tense up from being scolded; she felt like she had gotten caught stealing cookies from the jar without asking. it was an oddly comforting sensation — a twisted nostalgia that allowed her to escape from the present, if only for a single, fucked up moment. a bottle sliding across the bar into mari’s hand — “ thanks. ” she tipped the neck of her brew to the woman behind the bar. mari knew she was a lion, making the situation even more peculiar. still, despite the countless bar fights and the stench of testosterone, mari felt safe in this bar; always have ever since coming to hennessy just five months ago. “ legs, right? i mean — jade. . .right? ”

an uncertain beat — “ was it a hawk? ” mari despised the violence that brewed between the two sides. she could feel the empathy creep in, despite the affiliation of the blonde before her. “ you sure you’re okay? ”

taking a reactionary step backwards — “ yeah ” mari spat, the crack in her voice barely noticeable, “ i get that a lot. ” the girl never did lose her sharp tongue; in fact, the grit of this place has only made her more caustic. the jabs and the insults were always so unexpected, though, even to mari. she could feel a peculiar sense of fearlessness grow within her ever since stepping foot in hennessy, but it was horse shit compared to the terror that consumed her every other thought. still, mari knew she needed to fend for herself in a place like this. a simple shrug, eyes darting around the room — “ trust me, i’ve seen worse. . .and luck’s got nothing to do with it. ”
