The reason categorizing fanfiction by tropes works is because there's already an established setting, cast of characters, and theme in the original work, so when people write fanfics they're building sand castles in pre-existing beaches, but when you advertise your book as "sci-fi enemies to lovers where there's only one bed and also they're gay" it says nothing about what the premise is, who the characters are, or what the book is actually trying to say. That's not to say that books containing stuff like "sci-fi enemies to lovers where there's only one bed and also they're gay" can't be absolutely fantastic books, but if you only advertise by listing off tropes that are inherently cookie-cutter then you're implying (whether intentionally or not) that there's nothing interesting or memorable about the book besides smashing tropes together like you're playing with action figures.

Pathway of Pain

Because I'm still upset that Between Us continues to end each episode on the saddest note only to punch us in the throat with the chirpiest side stories two seconds later, and (Team's brother's friend?) TON IS DEAD,

I'll make this quick:

*promptly writes "What's the menu?" down on BL shirt list next to Lovely Writer's "Eat Me" shirts*

Team and Win start the episode in the green because they are lost in their feelings

Win takes Team to his colorless house because both are still emotionally confused and drained (and Win promised Wiew he'd stay the night)

Yet Win wakes up in his element and in blue with Team safe by his side and Wiew idolizing him

However, once Win sees Team in the water, he freaks out and struggles to find his balance between his normal behavior and giving into his feelings for Team

As much as Tul and Wan try to help, their lack of color doesn't convince Win to surrender to the red or his emotions for Team

And Win abandons Team to sit alone in his red hues

While Tul and Wan spend the night together in Wan's black and white (with a dash of yellow) room.

Wan has been pinned as a blue boy by his father but is potentially a red guy with his red chair. Tul has the warmer light on his side compared to Wan's harsher light.

@teerayus pointed out that the statues on the shelf behind them exhibit the stages they are in their relationship with one another: Tul's statue depicts him keeping his identity a secret and Wan's statue shows him not realizing (seeing) who Tul is. Tul's statue and his shirt are in white because he is aware of the situation, and Wan's statue and clothing are darker because the truth is hidden from him.

Finally, the books next to Wan's statues are Jackie Collins' Hollywood Wives, Nicole Krauss' The History of Love, a book about hidden identities and finding love, Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, a Stieg Larsson novel, a Jodi Picoult novel, and Journey to Joy in red.

Tul and Wan, with his romance novels, are on a journey to joy as Win and Team diverged onto a pathway of pain.

I’m know I’m not the first person to say this, but any newbies on tumblr really need to understand how different this is from a lot of other social media. Particularly tiktok.

I just saw a creator on tiktok reminding followers that it’s actually a problem when someone goes back to the earliest post and watches all the posts chronologically, liking and commenting along the way. The stupid app recognizes it as spam or something and then kinda puts a halt on their account? Literally punishing people for positive engagement?? 🥴🤦‍♀️

I’ve already heard people saying years back how they don’t want to be “creepy” and go through a persons blog, liking and reblogging tons of stuff. But think how many more people are going to be worried about it now, thinking they might do actual damage! Most people, especially younger people, are so used to the way tiktok works now. So please, do not ever worry about this on here. Just remember-

You will never do any harm if you go on a like and reblog fest through someone’s tumblr blog! The only risk you’re taking is to make the blog owner weep for joy!! 😭🤣
