And they both were treated like crap because their characters were not developed the way they should because they would stand in a way of focusing on so called "main couples". At least, showrunners admitted they made bad decisions about Laurel....like killing her when she was meant to be a damn superhero.
Can I just say that I love Katie Cassidy and Danielle Panabaker, not simply they are amazing, but also because of the sheer love and respect they have for one another? They’ve both been on the receiving end of death threats and accusations of getting their parts due to the “casting couch,” because of fake love stories that no one will remember once they are gone, except for when they’re mentioned Top Ten lists. It is disgustingly inhumane, I don’t how either of them have so much self-control that they don’t just go off on Twitter and other social media sites, but then when their co-workers get called out, they’ll jump at the chance to defend them. And through all that, as ridiculous as it sounds, it seems as though they are literally each other’s sole support system because they go through the same utter bullshit every day, no one understands their situations better than they do, and they always seem to just mention each other in interviews and show their support for on another, and I think that’s beautiful.

Missandei: "She's not our queen because she's the daughter of some king we never knew. She's the queen we chose"
˙Jon being literally the chosen king in the North.
Daenerys: "Denied, that does not count. Bend the knee!"...literally using her "I'm the daughter of the king" card.

Making Helaena a dreamer was never intended by the showrunners as a way to develop her personality, adding a new, interesting trait to her. Instead, they reduced and are reducing her only to this; and in the meantime they gave some of her book traits (her bond with her dragon, her being a great mother, her being loved by the small-folk, her wanting to avoid war and find a diplomatic solution at the beginning, Dany's dragons coming from Dreamfyre's eggs) to Rhaenyra. And there's a precise choice behind this.
Knowing the showrunners, I think they did that in order to diminish furthermore the Greens. In fact, having Helaena, Aegon's queen, the queen of the Greens, with her own coronation, sitting on the Small Council as a respected and listened to voice, actually advising her husband, like in F&B, would have led more viewers to the Greens' side. Maybe they would have also preferred Helaena to Rhaenyra. So they tried to ruin Aegon and his claim furthermore, by weakining his relationship with his wife. And by not giving any actual female character standing for the Greens, because Helaena has no agency and Alicent is now pro-Rhaenyra and a traitor.
In other words: in order to make a female character (Rhaenyra) likeable, they sidelined another (Helaena, and not only her). So I'm very happy that Martin kinda called that out via his blog post mentioning Helaena, the fact she was loved and her others characteristics.

Rhaenyra’s claim is weak and should be dismissed for the peace of the realm. She was named heir solely as a precaution to keep Daemon as far away from The Iron Throne as possible because he would be dangerous as a ruler. Now she’s married to him and her becoming Queen would mean Daemon becoming Prince/King Consort, the exact thing she was named heir in order to avoid happening. Rhaenyra being named heir was always meant as a placeholder in case Viserys died before having a son come of age. Even Viserys knew that but he backed out of replacing her because he was crippled with guilt over butchering Aemma in his pursuit of a son that when he got that son, he was too full of self-hatred to even love him. Viserys got all this “chosen one” shit in his head and put it in Rhaenyra’s head too but really it was all because of his emotions that he couldn’t make Aegon heir as he knew was planned when he married Alicent and had him.
(Obligatory, yes, it’s misogynistic that only male heirs are accepted - and its also unfair that one inbred melanin-deficient family holds absolute power by virtue of their birth while 99% of society has no say in anything. Its not fair that Smallfolk get crushed to death the second one of these white-haired narcissists wants to make a statement, and is starved by a blockade caused by one of the more powerful, privileged people in the world who has never once known what it feels like to worry about accessing food being angry she doesn’t have even more power and privilege. That’s the world of Westeros, and Rhaenyra becoming Queen wouldn’t make Westeros any more equal and fair for anyone but herself.)

That pseudosibling thing really make their whole shipping distasteful for me and their chemistry worked, but on a family bond level, I could not convince myself to accept it as a great lovestory when even Iris mentioned they are like brother and sister, with Barry constantly calling Joe his father and Joe calling Barry and Iris his kids, just no. They both had romantic chemistry with everyone but not each other. Eddie? When I look at the whole picture, that's what I would believe. Not just their chemistry, but a fact that girls like Iris usually end up with guys like Eddie. People even forget about Iris's boss, like you could see sparks started flying.
But somehow Iris owed destiny a romance with Barry, that's also what makes it weird to me.
If writers wanted a good match for Barry, it should have been Patty, if not her, then Caitlin, if something more spicy, then Linda. They would not sacrifice Olicity, but damn, Barricity would be a match.
The Flash
I'mma be honest, I wish Iris wasn't Barry's love interest. First, I always found the foster sibling thing weird, not that it's always bad, just they always felt more like siblings than lovers. Second, the writers just sucked, and once they were together, completely ruined Iris.
Eddie should have lived, and literally anyone else (Caitlin, Leonard, Cisco, etc.) for Barry.

You can love and hate whatever you want, that's your basic human right, that's principle of individualism and diversity, that we are not all the same, lol. No one can force you unless you live under totalitarian regime.
Other shippers: You can't hate [X] ship because they're meant to be/they're beautiful together/they have a lot of chemistry/they're canon!!!!
Me: You know what? I'm gonna hate them even harder.

Like Henry Cavill on set of Witcher. Then he quit because he could not stand that bullsh!t anymore.
Imagine being Tom Glynn Carney, cast in what is supposed to be a major role as one of two leads; you watch all of Game of Thrones and study the books to prepare, immersing yourself into Westeros itself… only to be given shit scripts, shit wigs, shit costumes because Condal wants to produce his rhaenicent fanfiction where women do nothing wrong, ever.

Well, she forced him to take the throne, then she trashed him when he wanted to rule, basically saying he is where he is just to be a puppet king and then she chooses Rhaenyra "a son for a son", even tho HIS son was murdered for this "exchange".
I loved Alicent, but they ruined my girl.
"Aegon is Alicent's biggest disappointment." Cool, but what about the fact that Alicent is Aegon's biggest disappointment? Hmm, Olivia? What about this? His mother who forced him to become king and then condemned him to execution. Oh, it's not the same, I get it.
#i do not even like aegon#after all hes a grapist#but he's also a neglected child she did not raise properly#both sons she raised have mommy issues#guess why

The way they reduced Alicent to Rhaenyra's simp in the season 2 finale is an ultimate disrespect to the Queen Alicent Hightower from a book source.
