Hi so im a junior in college currently, just turned 21 and looking back on it 1. My life revolves around music. 2. Basically all of my college career has been during covid and basically shit in the long run so that being said: basically ive realized the highest point of my life thus far, was unfortunately, high school band. I could not have asked for a better experience there and sometimes get in my head and think that i rly peaked in a scrawny high school band. But my band was GOOD and we played HARD music and i was poppin and talking to the loml (lol rip that shit but here we are still <3) but i had everything I currently crave: i played daily in a SWINGIN jazz band with the best sax player I personally have ever had the blessing of performing with for 7years!!! I played the BEST music that was actually challenging with the best wind ens. Group ive ever had the pleasure of playing with. Not to talk shit about my current collegiate wind ens but the music we play is more tonal and focused on blending perfectly but in hs we played FUCKIN BANGERS like i can not even eXPLAIN!! I marched for 4 years, and it was THE BEST 4 yrs that band has ever had. Thinking of it that way, that music program had such an impact on me, and i invested and shaped so much of it just personally. I made MEMORIES there, not to say i havent in college but looking back to hs music? Couldnt have asked for more. And currently? I desire exactly what i had, that level of intensity just constantly. Yaa band is good now weve studied with professional musicians etc etc but the intensity and just push to be the fuckin best isnt there. Not that we dont try hard but, there was something about my hs music program that college music just cannot ever compare too and it makes me sad to think that I haven’t had that much fun playing my instruments in 3 yrs now. Yeah covidhas messed hard with the way we can do things so we dont die but i feel theres sooo much more this program could be if it was my hs program with the musical abilities we all have today. I miss it. I miss high school. First time ill admit that but shit was bussin and it hasnt bussed the same SINCE!! yes im living my own personal life rn exactly the way i want it but i crave what once was and dont know if ill ever get to do exactly that again

It's amazing how much noise you can make on a saxophone without actually playing it

Did you know that after they switched to blind auditions, major symphony orchestras hired women between 30% to 55% more? Before bringing in “blind auditions” with a screen to conceal the the candidate, women in the top 5 major orchestras made up less than 5% of the musicians performing.

once in band I forgot the sheet music was double sided so I ended up going onto the next page while everyone else was on the back side of the first page and I finished like 20 bars early.
none of us realised because it was jazz
