fortnight is around 10 years after "betty" "cardigan" and "august". betty and james got back together, married, and got their own house, 1-3 years after the songs were set, (and, in my mind, augustine had moved away around 6 months to a year after that.) fast forward 7-ish years, augustine coincidentally moved into the house next door with her husband. fortnight is from the perspective of augustine. her and james still have leftover feelings of love (and, augustine hate, that she feels guilty about, for betty) for one another, but neither act on it out of respect, however, they had indulged just once when augustine had moved in (betty was taking their dog - which is a golden retriever in my mind - for a walk, and augustine's husband at work.) nothing sexual, no kisses, nothing overly intimate, im picturing bumped into eachother when going to bring their trashbins back to their yard, just a light brush of hands when talking, maybe james' hand on her shoulder, and deep eye contact with one another, over a conversation about the weather, and augustine's sweater. i am a firm believer that augustine and betty end up together, but i was watching the eras tour film and thats all i could think of during "betty" while also thinking of "fortnight"'s outro.
