the incredibles addresses so many heavy topics... suicide, stalking (three different types!!), extramarital affairs/mid-life crises, self-repression, the dangers of air travel, unethical insurance practices/bureaucromancy/corporate bs, parental dissonance, assaulting middle management, gaslighting teachers, lying to your wife about "bowling night" when you're actually out listening to police scanners woth your best buddy, the scam that is the american dream, the physical ramifications of unprocessed rage in a strong body, teenage depression, parenting violent children, friends slowly going missing one by one after you've lost touch with them, the dangers of hubris, the (presumed) loss of your entire family in an instant, desperately reliving the glory days, being wrongly accused/in the wrong place at the wrong time, trigger happy police, starting fresh and all the trauma that causes families, society punishing the exceptional...

ok i'll stop but this movie will always be one of my favourites and the fact that it came out when i was 12 and at the peak of puberty is irrelevant 😤

Ed (Pantene flirtatious hair flip): Not at all, Zaddy.

Stede (surprised): Whew...yeah, I mean...I'm fairly sure we're not the only ones who want to live forever.

*Taika breaks first then Rhys. Rhys gives him a playful smack on the arm.*

Stede: Let's live, if possible. I mean, I just got back together with my boyfriend. Oh do you mind if I call you...?

Ed (closes eyes and gives a big hair flip, hair gets stuck in beard): I love it...Zaddy.

Stede (confused): Zaddy? Any who...

*Taika immediately breaks and Rhys warns "well that's what I'm gonna say if you say Zaddy" and laughs. Taika lauging says, "I'm sorry! Okay. I'm sorry!"

28 google employees were fired today after protesting the company’s enormous cloud contract with israel.

good for them. i hope google fires more people to the point that they can’t meet their contract requirements. i hope there’s so much internal resistance that the execs are faced with more “difficult decisions”. i want to see consequences for the company. i hope those employees find something better to do with their time, and i applaud them for taking a stand.

I see so many authors bagging on themselves like “why can’t I ever finish anything, I’m a terrible artist and a terrible writer”, and what I want to say based on my professional assessment of their work and where it tends to fall apart is “your art and writing are fine, your real problem is that you’re a shitty project manager” – but of course you can’t actually say that, because while it’s true, it’s almost never actually helpful to tell someone out of the blue that their real issue is that they entirely lack a critical skill-set they didn’t even know existed.
