no matter what kind of door opens before us in life…and even if the moments we share make us sad at times, i wish to be able to love tirelessly.  just like that, we decided to love the fate that chose us. just for today and only today.  and forever.

Other World Souvenirs
Prime Minister Koo
Tumblr media
Jung Tae-eul
Tumblr media
Can we talk about this? I love the juxtaposition of Prime Minister Koo buying shoes that match her personal style from Republic of Korea. It didn’t seem like she had any issues killing her counterpart, who by all accounts, seemed like a regular person with no high status. She came from nothing. That’s her story. One she is trying to rise out of and this desire fuels her ambition for power. I kind of wish they had filmed/showed us when Prime Minister Koo killed her doppelganger. They showed us the others that Lee Lim recruited to murder their doppelgangers, but not Seo-ryung. Imagine you’ve worked your ass off and risen to the highest political position in the Kingdom of Corea that isn’t royalty and you go to another world only to find you’re still a nobody. I bet that would have pissed her off.
Her choice of souvenir is also telling. We know from previous episodes that Seo-ryung is very attached to her looks, appearance, and how she presents herself to the world. New sparkly shoes that someday will get worn down and break. But in the beginning, they look great and will be an accessory towards a path of her own making.
Compared to Tae-eul who has been buying seeds since her trips to Kingdom of Corea. She could have bought anything, but she picked seeds. First, she brings the seeds home to plant them in a pot as well as the space between their worlds. She buys more seeds even though Lee Gon questions if they’ll actually flower.
It’s interesting how Tae-eul says she wants to treat each day like their last and not worry about the future, yet she’s planting these seeds anyway. I mean, at its core, this is a pretty obvious one. Seeds naturally sprout and grow. They don’t have a short life span if cared for properly. While Tae-eul may say she doesn’t want to worry about the future too much, it’s also clear that she does want Lee Gon and her to stay together for as long as possible.
And it’s clear why Lee Gon picks her over Seo-ryung. What would win the heart of the king? A woman attached to material goods that will fade away in value? Or a woman who is literally planting seeds of the future, symbolizing hope?
There’s nothing wrong with ambition in a woman, but it’s pretty clear that the Prime Minister has always looked out for herself. I remember in a previous post, I pointed out how Tae-eul said to her as a police officer, the people are the first priority. Her choice of seeds is just more confirmation why she’s the one for Lee Gon.

One Last Goodbye: Scene Breakdown
Warning: This is sad.
JTE has been waiting for LG for a while by this point. He hasn’t been able to come because so much happened - the Lee Lim encounter, Eun Sop being shot, Buyeong’s death, among more. So when future LG comes she wants to know what took him so long as she obviously still doesn’t know this is him in the future.
Tumblr media
And he says he came from far away, because he didn’t just cross the place between 0 and 1 to reach her this time. He came from the future so he had to cross both time AND worlds for her. Please note the gloomy and post-crying face he has on.
Tumblr media
And then he proceeds to say that he didn’t get a chance to give her flowers. Now this can only mean one thing...JTE dies. Maybe there’s a way to change fate and this won’t happen. But I think future LG experienced her death and there’s so much he regrets about not having her in his life anymore. All the things he didn’t get to do with/for her. And the fact that he literally crossed the universe for her...do you all remember in episode 12 he told JTE that if the door closed he’ll open all the doors in the universe and come to her?? That’s exactly what future LG did here.
Tumblr media
And oh my god you guys the details are the literal best part. JTE steps forward to move closer to him and get the flowers. But suddenly she stops. She realizes something is different. This isn’t entirely the LG she is used to. She gets a bad feeling. So she steps back. Whatever is about to happen doesn’t seem to be happy for them both.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He then steps forward instead to give her the flowers. But he tells her he has to go back. And she doesn’t want him to, not just because it’s like any other parting of theirs. It’s because this seems like a break up. Not one he wants to do, but one that is a result of a tragedy. To her, this seems like their end. If he leaves, she may not ever see him again.
Tumblr media
LG continues to make things even sadder :( He confesses his love to her. Something he didn’t explicitly do while she was still alive. And oh boy does he regret it. And now HIS EYES. Especially here, the fact that they’re literally brimming with tears and are so red shows this is the most he can hold back. I really don’t think he would show up with eyes full of tears and a list of things he didn’t get a chance to do, if he wasn’t there because of her death. The only other guess I have is JTE is in some other world that is unreachable to LG or the fact that they had to close the door.
Tumblr media
She’s taken aback by his confession that moves her to tears. Not because she didn’t know he loves her, but because this confirmed her fears. That something went wrong, and that something will keep them apart forever.
Tumblr media
So he kisses her one last time. King Lee Gon is shedding tears in pain from losing the woman he loves. The poetic nature of these tears in indescribably beautiful yet tragic. This was his final goodbye to her.
Tumblr media
Basically I am in love with their love and I can’t handle the fact that we only have 4 more episodes left. The uncertainty of their relationship makes the wait even harder. But all I know for sure is Jeong Tae-Eul & Lee Gon will go down as one legendary couple.

I haven't watched a Korean drama in seven years, and O M G, The King Eternal Monarch is the best decision I've made in this quarantine, it's fucking amaaaaazing, sometimes I don't understand a shit, and I loved it, also my baby Lee Minho, ah, I started to watch dramas bc of him, and this series is reminding me why, he's the only Korean actor I've ever liked. Buuuut, Woo Do hwan it's amazing too, I love his two characters so much. The whole series is amazing so far and I'm only on ep 9, it's giving me some kind of Dark vibes and I'm loving every second of it... Faith in k-dramas? Restored.

I don’t understand how on TV, people can break into homes and immediately find bank statements, passports and super important documents. If someone tried that at my place it would be “I’m sure she keeps her important stuff in her desk. No, wait, this draw is full of pens that don’t work. Aha! This box looks important! Oh, never mind. It’s full of cigarette lighters. She doesn’t even smoke!”

Short comic, while I work on something bigger on the side. It is nevertheless a very important topic. A lot of seabirds die because they eat plastic. They feed their chicks with the waste. It’s really tragic.
