Jun 06 - My first table in a convention

I went to a comic convention that happened in a nearby city yesterday. It was the first time I had a table in a convention which is funny cause I make comics since 2011/12 and have 3 comic books publish here in Brazil.
I wish I had taken some prints and other stuff but at the end I only brought my books.

Ontem eu fui a uma feira de quadrinhos, a CCQ [Circuito Catarinense de Quadrinhos]. Foi a primeira vez que eu de fato tomei a iniciativa de comprar uma mesa em um evento. Mentira eu já comprei uma mesa pra Gibicon um ano desses, mas no final das contas não consegui ir.
De qualquer forma... foi a minha primeira experiência nesse sentido o que é meio bizarro já que eu faço quadrinhos desde 2011/12 e tenho 3 livros publicados.
Eu queria ter levado prints, ter feito um cartão de visitas pelo menos mas quando estava planejando não tinha grana, e quando podia encomendar não tinha tempo pra pedir online ou nenhuma opção de gráfica decente na minha cidade. Então levei só meus livros 'Estranhos' e 'A'.


It was the first edition of a very small event but I have no complaints about the organization, they were very accessible and helpful. And the old building where kinda perfect cause to go to the activities that happened on the second floor the people had to pass through the artists tables on the main hall.

É a primeira edição da CCQ e foi um evento super bem organizado, pelo menos no que diz respeito ao ponto de vista dos artistas que participaram das mesas. Eles [quem organizou] foram bem acessíveis, responderam todas as minhas perguntas super rápido e nos deixaram muito bem informados.
O espaço era bem legal, num prédio antigo no centro de Floripa, o Museu da Escola Catarinense, que tem um layout super bom pra esse tipo de feira, eu acredito.
Porque todos que participaram das palestras e conversas, que aconteciam no segundo andar, precisariam necessariamente passar pelas mesas dos artistas que ficavam no térreo na entrada do prédio.















I stayed there from 10am to 19pm and met a bunch of people I only knew from instagram/youtube and it was awesome! I never thought I would like interacting with humans so much. This doesn't mean I'm not awkward, cause I am. And on my way home I was just wondering if I did/say/did-not-say something too weird.

E apesar de que ouvi gente dizendo ter tido dificuldade em achar o lugar, eu que nem sou de Floripa achei fácil.
Foi um evento pequeno e tudo está ainda no começo e tals, mas eu sinto que tanto os artistas da região quanto o público estava muito ansioso por uma iniciativa assim, eu sei que eu estava!
Morando a 1h de Floripa, eu acordei as 7h da MADRUGADA, dei comida extra dos cachorros, comida E caixinhas de areia extra pros gatos e fui.
Fiquei das 10h às 19h, encontrei muito gente que só conhecia pelo instagram/youtube, e ainda com toda a minha dificuldade de interagir com seres humanos eu fiquei bem feliz de conversar e conhecer gente nova. \*0*/
Apesar de ficar paranoiando na volta pra casa se eu havia sido muito awkward em algum momento... [Foi mal se eu fui!]

Good thing I have my sketchbook as my social barrier, but I could paint watercolors as I planned, I got too self-conscious! So I stick to my low profile graphite doodles.

Mas na maior parte do tempo eu usei o meu caderno como escudo social e fique desenhando, o que nunca é ruim. Tentei usar aquarela, mas fiquei com vergonha e depois dessa primeira constrangedora iniciativa eu passei pro grafite.
And there were a lot of great artists in there, I was able to trade my books with these two, can't wait to read them.

Tinha muito artista talentoso que eu já conhecia (pela internet) e também que eu não conhecia ainda, descolei dois livros lindões em troca dos meus, 'O Senhor dos Porcos' do Adriano Loyola e 'Revolta' do André Caliman:

And also very important, I sold more than I expected, keep in mind I consider a success already, if I at least get back the money I spent. But the experience was good enough for me to think about coming on the big events next year, and taking with me some prints and other stuff too.

E, também super importante, vendi mais do que esperava! Bom, considero sucesso já ter ficado no lucro considerando tudo o que eu tive que gastar pra me deslocar.
Tanto que me animei em participar de outras feiras maiores e também mais distantes e caras, como a FIQ, Bienal do Quadrinhos [sempre chamarei de Gibicon] e a CCXP. E já estou fazendo mil planos de quadrinhos novos, prints e coisinhas.

August 1st - Magic Girls
I missed it! I missed a place where I could write more than 140 characters AND post photos AND videos AND gifs if I wanted.
Sometimes I just want to show a drawing I did and talk a bit about the process, or the art supplies that I used, but on Instagram almost NO ONE reads the captions, and I just can't use Twitter for other things besides complaining about life and my love for Star Wars. And then we have Youtube, where the most simple video I make takes me at least 2 days! And none of those places let me link stuff like this!
So I'm back here, blogging.
I took this weekend to update up my portfolio, shop and blog pages, and I think they got so cute!! (I know, I'm gonna stop linking stuff now...) There's still some things I couldn't figure out yet, like how to put a comment section on the blog posts, but I'm very happy so far.
But that's enough ramble for today, I wanted to open this new blog with a post about a new series of drawing I started called "Magic Girls".
I did this one above a while ago, at the time I wasn't thinking of making it a series, or neither though of her as a little witch, actually she's supposed to be Little Red Ridding Hood, but I like the result, and the process so much I decided to make another one yesterday:
And then I got the idea of turning this into a series of little creepy witch girls with their spirit animals (maybe they're part human part animal, I don't know yet).
I used the watercolor I used Carmine (P.R.170:1) and for the second one I used Blue Lake (P.B.1), both from my St. Petersburg White Nights 36 colors set.

A 2mm Koh-i-Noor mechanical pencil, with a 6b and 8b graphite lead of the same brand. And I also used graphite powder, which I keep in a little container every time I sharp those leads.
I love working with graphite powder so much!! I LOVE the texture, the gloomy mood it gives to any simple drawing.
And the last super awesome supplies I used were a kneaded eraser, the Mono 2,3mm Zero eraser pen and the Posca 0,7mm white pen for the highlights, a thin smudge stick and a silicone tip brush for shading details where I couldn't use my fingers.

The first drawing I did on my sketchbook, I didn't know better, on a 120gsm offset paper, and the second one is on one of my favorite papers, Arches hot pressed satiné.

My plan is to draw at least 3 more, using the same graphite technique but with different bold colors. Let's see what happens.
Maybe next time I'll show you all the process it takes.
