Favorite Characters 139/∞: Rebecca Blithely (Strange Empire)
I should like to look into those bodies. Look because of the secrets they hold, the science in them. I am no believer but in nature.

Morgan Finn and Ruby Slotter
(Morgan in this post; Ruby in another.)
How I feel about Morgan Finn:
So fucking relieved that the fandom never sunk into butch vs. trans arguments about him, you have no idea. But my persistent Doylism aside…
He is such a romantic, idealistic sweetheart. Loyal to the bone (fortunately, he’s half-decent at picking targets for that loyalty), and fucking amazing at stepping up when something needs doing. I am in awe of his physical courage. (The amputation! The cave-in!) There’s a quiet heroism in him that I admire hugely, and we saw it in so many ways. (When he learned that Rebecca had looked up to Thomas as a child, and he kept his feelings about that to himself, because the last thing Rebecca needed right then was to deal with someone else’s feelings.)
He is not by any stretch of the imagination a perfect human being – putting people on pedestals can get real toxic, real fast, and he was getting Thomas-like in his judgements of Rebecca there at the end – but in the grand scheme of things, he is good people, reliable people, and I could stand to have a few more of him around in the world.
All the people I ship romantically with Morgan Finn
That one damn convo about a balloon, and I am so sold on Morgan/Miss Logan. They could make each other very happy, I think, if they gave each other the chance and the time. And they could be good for each other, too. She has a talent for grounding that romantic idealism of his (while having a compatible romantic streak of her own!) In the other direction, he is very much looking for someone to lavish attention on, and she could very much do with a heaping dose of that just now, and probably for a good while to come.
And I thought the Morgan/Rebecca arc was perfect precisely as it stood: for a little while there he was exactly what she needed, but in the bigger, longer picture, they would have made each other miserable – had already begun to! – and she was exactly right to call it off. And then he put on his grown-up pants and made his feelings about that his problem, not hers, and stuck by her all through the finale. (In the common-decency-not-being-a-vindictive-shit way.)
My non-romantic OTP for Morgan Finn
I’ve got nothing. I love his relationship with his uncle, although I wouldn’t call it an OTP. And I’m curious about what his relationship with Rebecca might look like, once he got over his broken heart and stopped putting her on the wrong pedestal for the wrong reasons, although again, I wouldn’t call it an OTP.
…and we mostly haven’t seen him interacting with anyone else, and no one in the cast jumps out at me as yeah, you two should be besties.
My unpopular opinion about Morgan Finn
I don’t actually read him as straight-up trans, like most of the fandom seems to; there’s more than a touch of butch in my perception of him. But Morgan Finn’s gender/sexual identity isn’t a hill I’d die on, because I think the issue is not only undecidable, but acting like it is decidable is disrespectful to other fans.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
At the risk of being obvious, that one scene in 1x12, you know the one I mean, I wish that had not happened. (Although in some weird ass-backward way, I read it as the show affirming male identity for him? Because while the women in this show get threatened with lots of terrible, traumatic things, they typically escape by the skin of their teeth; the men seldom do. NEVERTHELESS, because of the larger cultural trends in media, I think the show was in very grave error when it decided to go with that plot point, just as it was in grave error in killing Joseph.)
Also, I wish like hell that no one had ever used the word “two-spirit” for him, even if it was “only” in a word-of-god context. Because as I touched on in my call for not getting into butch vs. trans arguments about him, gender and sexual identities are culturally specific, and two-spirit exists within a culture that Morgan is not a part of, full stop.
But putting aside my negativity about things that did happen…
I would have liked a season two. *sigh* I would have been particularly interested to see how/if Morgan got drawn into Janestown politics, given that he doesn’t seem to do sides/coalitions/alliances at all, but only personal loyalties to individuals. And of course I would have enjoyed seeing his relationship with Miss Logan develop, and I suspect that the dynamics of any eventual friendship between him and Rebecca would have made me laugh forever.

Morgan Finn reveals their LGBTQ status to Thomas, Rebecca’s foster father, before Thomas’ death.
–
“She deserves better than you.”
“She’s not who you think she is….and neither am I.”
“Ms. Finn? You’re her lady friend?”
“I am as god made me.”
“What are you thinking? You can’t give her children. You can’t satisfy her. She’ll find a real husband.”
“I’ll be a better husband than you.”

El Oasis & Zurena
Oh dear... I promised myself a decade ago that I will not react to random opinions online, neither will I read them, because I am fed up with seeing negativity and complaints everywhere. But I obviously read stuff, and I obviously got pissed off...
Since I still don't want to get into any stupid fights under a facebook post, I just came here to shout my reaction aimlessly into the universe, because I have to let it out:
People can critisise the sloppy writing regarding El Oasis as much as they want, I think quite often I'd even agree about that. The show has its weaknesses. But also its good parts. And it's not like the previous seasons were perfect. What is perfect or for everyone's liking, anyway?
But don't dare anyone say that there was no chemistry between Zulema and Maca and that their relationship/hook up was forced! Their chemistry, along with Najwa's acting in general, were the only things which kept this show together imo. I think only those can say that it was forced who don't like the idea of Zulema and Maca together in any way, because they support another ship, and simply don't want to acknowledge that it's there, and that it's the essence of El Oasis, so as a way to defend their ship they complain about this one. Or they just simply don't get the whole sexual tension in the enemies to lovers kind of arcs, idk... I was never much into same sex ships, and Zurena became the ship I've probably been the most into, ever, so I just can't take this complaint seriously!
Ok, this was it, I'm done.

I recently started watching Vis a Vis (Locked Up). Why people aren’t talking about these two? I mean did you guys watched that scene? But more importantly…WHY there aren’t any fanfictions about Zulema Zahir? How is it possible? (I would ship that woman with anyone!)
