Abraham and co. only know Daryl as this tough, stoic guy who is a skilled tracker and walker slayer. They see him as the rugged, tough-as-nails hunter, and the gruff redneck… And then, much to their shock and surprise, they see him melt.

They see the woman who has the power to make him dissolve into tears by her mere presence.

Surely, watching this reunion, Abraham and his gang must have thought that the woman who can do this to the tough-as-nails hunter - the woman who can make him whimper and cry and cling to her like it’s his last day on earth - must be the woman who has his heart. The woman who has this kind of affect on him, by just being alive. The woman who he almost knocks to the ground in an all-consuming, passionate embrace… It seems pretty plausible.

Witnessing this desperate reunion, Abraham, Rosita, Tara and Eugene had to have believed that this woman who has such an impact on Daryl must be the woman he loves. Because even Maggie, Bob, Sasha, Rick, Carl - the people who know that Carol and Daryl aren’t technically “together” - looked convinced of their love.

The hug could have plausibly convinced anyone that these two people are deeply in love with each other. And that is because they are.
