Huge thank you to @piescrossstitch, who did this first and told me where to find the pattern for it. I just added beads to the mix because why not. It glows when you add a tea light inside, too!
EDIT: Pattern is from the September 2021 "Cross Stitcher Magazine", issue 374. I found a scan of it here.

And (in America at least) it’s also an excuse to be racist and xenophobic because many people in healthcare field (particularly in skilled nursing/long term care) are immigrants.
i also think that some of the aggression more broadly toward nurses is tied to the fact that nursing is a career path that can often give women upward mobility to a middle class income (with a community college degree at that)
big problem for people who are threatened by the idea of women being financially independent from the men in their lives
i don't think this is a huge factor for tumblr users specifically. but like. tiktok? yeah

I think one thing that can get really tiring to see is... hypotheticals.
Hypotheticals that aren't based in reality. Hypotheticals that just aren't achievable or realistic. Hypotheticals that only look at one kind and leave behind another.
And these hypotheticals spread like wildfire. They feel like they overtake issues faced in reality. It feels like they take away from actually working towards achieving realistic goals.
And at some point, these hypotheticals no longer give joy or hope. They just remind you of everything you can't have or will never achieve.
"Imagine a world where..."
"What if everyone..."
"If society did..."
But it's not. And they're not. And it doesn't change any of our current issues.
They never delve into how to develop these ideas. They never work towards creating solutions for these ideas. They don't actually help anyone. They don't educate anyone either. None of works towards an easier life for us.
I don't want to see hypotheticals anymore. I'm tired. I want to see plans and achievable goals.

(reply to the kroger & walmart chicken fettucine alfredo listeria outbreak)
hey holy shit. the sound I made when I read this. this is exactly why the chicken fettucine recall is so scary, it is such a huge comfort food and a bunch of folks eat it while pregnant. I am so fucking glad my post found you and that you got medical attention right away.
yours is an example of doing exactly the right thing: listeria is especially dangerous while pregnant, and there are antibiotics that can be prescribed for high-risk folks during the early stages of symptoms or even before symptoms begin. and while listeria can take up to 80 days to cause illness, it can also cause issues within hours or days of eating contaminated food.
for you and for everyone else trying to avoid the general news right now, here is a list to help keep up with recalls and foodborne illness outbreaks in the united states since I do not post all of them:
FDA recall list (food, drug, medical device, etc recalls with press announcements, usually bigger food recalls have announcements)
FDA enforcement reports (more recalls go here, but more difficult to navigate than the recall list with announcements)
USDA FSIS recall list (they cover different food than FDA, especially meat. the chicken fettucine alfredo recall was posted here)
NHTSA recall list (vehicles, car seats, tires, and equipment recalls!)
CPSC recall and safety warning list (products! there have been a LOT of recalls of baby stuff recently!)
FDA outbreak investigations (you can see the status of outbreaks as they happen and get investigated, this is often where recalls start)
CDC active investigations of foodborne illness outbreaks (outbreaks can have both an FDA page and a CDC page. they cover different information)
foodsafetynews (news about food safety ONLY! not a government source. mostly focused on the US and canada, but also news around the world. some of what they post involves commentary on the current administration, BUT they post about bigger and more relevant recalls that wind up in the ever-tricky FDA enforcement reports.)
best of luck to you and your baby, and make sure you get plenty of rest!!!!!

On a summer night in 2023, an explosion at one of Louisiana’s biggest petrochemical complexes sent a plume of fire into the sky. More explosions followed as poison gas spewed from damaged tanks at the Dow chemical plant, triggering a shelter-in-place order for anyone within a half mile of the facility, which sprawls across more than 830 acres near Baton Rouge. For more than a year, a little-known government agency has been investigating the incident. But the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board will likely shut down before completing its probes of the Dow explosion and other such incidents across the country. President Donald Trump’s administration has quietly proposed shutting down the board, an independent federal agency charged with uncovering the causes of large-scale chemical accidents.

If we wanted to engage in nuance (lol, lmao) on the "are audiobooks reading" debate, we really do need to bring literacy, and especially blind literacy, into the conversation.
Because, yes, listening to a story and reading a story use mostly the same parts of the brain. Yes, listening to the audiobook counts as "having read" a book. Yes, oral storytelling has a long, glorious tradition and many cultures maintained their histories through oral history or oral + art history, having never developed a true written language, and their oral stories and histories are just as valid and rich as written literature.
We still can't call listening in the absence of reading "literacy."
The term literacy needs to stay restricted to the written word, to the ability to access and engage with written texts, because we need to be able to talk about illiteracy. We need to be able to identify when a society is failing to teach children to read, and if we start saying that listening to stories is literacy, we lose the ability to describe those systemic failures.
Blind folks have been knee-deep in this debate for a long time. Schools struggle to provide resources to teach students Braille and enforcing the teaching of Braille to low-vision and blind children is a constant uphill battle. A school tried to argue that one girl didn't need to learn Braille because she could read 96-point font. Go check what that is. The new prevalence of audiobooks and TTS is a huge threat to Braille literacy because it provides institutions with another excuse to not provide Braille education or Braille texts.
That matters. Braille-literate blind and low-vision people have a 90% employment rate. For those who don't know Braille, it's 30%. Braille literacy is linked to higher academic success in all fields.
Moving outside the world of Braille, literacy of any kind matters. Being able to read text has a massive impact on a person's ability to access information, education, and employment. Being able to talk about the inability to read text matters, because that's how we're able to hold systems accountable.
So, yes, audiobooks should count as reading. But, no, they should not count as literacy.

Does he have ridiculous sideburns? Does he die a gruesome death? Is he on screen less than ten minutes total?
I spent a full day making this "Guess who? (is stuck)" The Terror game! Inspired by countless conversations about how hard it is to tell these dudes apart on first watch (and endless shitpost ideas with @merlintintintin ) This was honestly a lot of work, and now I really want to play it! I hope you'll find this cool, I'm personally really happy with the result! Would you play it?
I added Silna because I feel like the two boards kinda represent Terror & Erebus, and she's stuck here with these horrible dudes. Definitely more of a thematic easter egg rather than practical gameplay choice ahah.
To make this I bought a My Little Petshop Guess Who game (I liked the colors) second hand, took forever to cut out all the characters and color grade the pictures on photoshop (this serie is SO DARK, i'm thankful for the official pictures by Aidan Monaghan I also used), made the cards backing mostly using some designs I had already made, and then printed and cut the whole thing by hand!
I may share the template for this later on, if anyone is interested!

we can't even get a basic "all men structurally benefit from a misogynist society" to pass on this website without a bunch of queer men shooting themselves into a panic cause they get too uncomfortable about the idea of being culpable to self reflect. "feminist" website
