Gelboys Live Blogging

One of the 2025 BLs I'm curious about but haven't yet watched. It's from the creators of ITSAY and also the characters use social media a ton as part of the plot, which is so fun as like Gen Z high school kids. Also everybody seems to have watched and loved it, I had to save so many of my regular podcasts' Gelboys episodes, I'll finally get to watch them loll

I'm starting it with a bit of trepidation because apparently it's a great high school show with some messy kids but people seemed to really like eps 1 - 6 and then maybe be disappointed with 7 hmm. I had seen a bunch of tweets and cliips about the show, including the endgames but I can't remember who was in the tweets and pairs because I didn't know any of them. So I'm spoiler-free for now.

Also I thinkkk I'd heard that it's all shot on an iphone??

Ep 1 (Jun 7/8)

Chian and Fou4Mod was such a focus in this starting ep, it'd be very out-of-the-BL-norm if they don't end up together. But I guess we'll see more of Chian/Bua and Fou4Mod/Baabin next episodes.

a Tumblr post that showed a screencap of Bua and Baabin in bed together. I had seen clips of one scene where 2 of the boys are in bed and kinda trying to figure out/exploring sexual stuff, perhaps for the first time? I didn't know who they were but I guess that screencap is likely from that scene

I... vaguely remember that in the 7th ep people were saying that one of them didn't express liking the other enough maybe? or something??? like maybe it took one of them a really long time?? So this makes me think Chian/Bua endgame with people complaining about Bua not expressing his like enough??

Ep 4 - Baabin (Jun 15)

Baabin passing by his school and instead going to the BTS to go to school with Fou4Mod... Doesn't he know where Baabin lives?

Overall:

I liked the characters and their messy relationships with each other and how they'd make bad choices or self-sabotage. It was interesting to watch but I wasn't super invested in Fou4Mod or Chian, and especially grew quite detached when we kept repeating the same situationship -> Fou4Mod tries to define the relationship -> avoid each other for a little bit -> situationship cycle. But in the last few eipsodes, I really fell for Baabin and Bua's dynamic and relationship. I think they are sooooo cute and am afraid of what the hell they're gonna put them through in season 2.

The directing and filming with iphones was wild + I liked the social media usage + the parallels and throughlines, it's clear a lot of thought and passion was put into the project.

Been wanting to watch this for a while, a mix of the 2 types of shows I often watch, BL and mystery/thriller. I want to watch something within the next few days but I also have work, so this with its 4 hour run-time seems apt.

Why is Haruto the bottom/uke in Shiba's fantasy... no, right?

Okay in my head after Shiba's virginity confession, Haruto topped and was nice to Shiba. It's not that I don't think in real life, a real life relationship that's exactly this couldn't be anything other than top Haruto bottom Shiba. It's that there are... archetypes and I don't think this show is necessarily interested in challenging the yaoi precedence. So I'd be confused if the older, uptight, serious, virgin character is actually playing a top role rather than the puppy, bright but with tragic backstory, pursuing younger guy was the bottom. So much written for no reason but I think archetypes and expectations are interesting.

Ep 8 (May 30)

omg D: this old man tech CEO publicly humiliating Haruto and telling Shiba to break ties with him immediately...

omg :O Shiba literally said aloud that Haruto is his boyfriend :O I literally did not think they would come out at all in this show

I do not think this old man would ever have even said "My bad", how would you be an old, rich, tech CEO man without having pride and ego? He has money to fuck up Shiba's life, forget a little defamation lawsuit lol. Especially because he's backing down in front of the whole party and crowd

Oh, Shiba will have to face somebody who was disappointed in him? Is he scared of him? Or does he want to one-up him? Both?

Haruto is vengeful, they're hinting... Is Shiba somehow related to Haruto's mother's murder at all???? Or is it just saying that Haruto will get revenge on his mother's murderers (unrelated to Shiba)

My attention is split between some other tasks, so I got a little lost with the real estate stuff

The ominous senior saying that it's not a good idea to mix his work and his personal business... will Haruto being his partner have consequences...

ohooooo, the Nishiki Resort senior was steps ahead and bribed the witness Shiba and Haruto had brought I guess

It's sweet how Haruto and Shiba are so all-in for each other, like Shiba constantly telling people to fuck off if they look down on Haruto and Haruto doing everything to help Shiba's cases

Kotaro finding out one of the real estate scammers is now his friend Shiba's boyfriend

Was hoping to finish today but it's like 12:30am and I'm sleepy, hopefully tomorrow since there's less than 1 hour left

... I am baffled by the fact that I didn't watch this for a week... It's been a hectic week for sure but still... wild. Also, I forgot eveything

Overall:

Most of the JBLs I've watched have been very character-focused, so this sort of show which has a lawyer subplot is fun. I liked the plot and the relationship, though the show wasn't necessarily very plot-heavy even though the concept can be very involved. I liked it all well-enough but I think my week-long break in the middle dampened my enjoyment, I doubt I'll ever think about this again (I'm not even going through gifs for eps 8-12).
