Buck-Tick in Manga, 006, Zetsuai & Bronze
By Ozaki Minami
It’s a long series, I’m not very familiar with it, so supplements are very welcome.
Plot:
Kōji Nanjō is one of the most successful rock stars in Japan, with his hauntingly beautiful voice and very attractive features. But beneath all the fame and glamour, he is a damaged and hurt young man who has absolutely no happiness or interest in life.
One night after a string of bar-hopping, Kōji passes out in a heap of trash in the rain. He is found, taken in, and cared for by Takuto Izumi, a soccer prodigy. Despite the fact that Izumi is a complete stranger, he moves Kōji deeply, and Kōji soon develops an intense obsession with Izumi. It is later revealed that the reason Kōji sings is to find the person he fell in love with at first sight six years earlier, whom he remembers for showing extreme ferocity on the soccer field and for a particularly penetrating gaze. Kōji knows the person’s name is ‘Izumi,’ but he thinks the person he saw was a girl, so initially he believes it was Serika Izumi, Takuto’s sister. It is only when Takuto looks at him angrily that he realizes Takuto is the 'Izumi’ he was looking for. His body goes into shock, and from then on his obsession with Izumi knows no bounds.
……
(from Wikipedia)
In a country where Visual Kei is almost the least popular genre of Japanese music (amazing, isn’t it?), Sakurai Atsushi is best known as “the model of Nanjo Koji”. So, I was informed of the model thing the first day I became a BT fan.
I already knew Zetsuai before that. When I was in elementary school, I saw a little piece of introduction on a manga magazine, about one chapter of Bronze…I thought it was a love story between two melancholic middle aged men. Two years ago, I went to read the introduction of the complete story because of BT, then…16 years old? Wonder why so many manga authors make their characters so young but with mature appearance and personality.
But my opinions are not important here, let’s get down to business.
I don’t know whether Acchan is the model of Nanjo Koji from the beginning or not, I didn’t find anything suspicious in Zetsuai (However I wasn’t reading very carefully and there are different editions of this manga). The first time (I think) someone who looks so much like Acchan appeared was in the first volume of Bronze.
an older one:
The first two pages of an old edition (can’t find English ones)
A few pages later, Nanjo Koji has shorter silver hair. Changing characters’s hair colors and hairstyles isn’t very strange, but we all know Ozaki-san was an Acchan fan. This black haired Nanjo Koji keeps reapearing in later volumes, I can’t post every picture.
Then, Mr. Nanjo in SS uniform is playing with his hair stylist, I think it’s before Friday, so the stylist part may be coincidence.
Although it’s quite famous on Tumblr…let’s look at the BOSS one again
By the way, when I opened the newest version online, I found that it has been changed to a cross, well, Acchan didn’t have the swastika too, but I thought it was manga authors and VK bandmen’s rights to use whatever Nazi things they like.
Oh, I almost forgot that time BT actually appeared in Bad Blood (I think the name is from Aku no Hana):
Isn’t Koji something like 190 cm? Acchan next to Koji would look like Yuta next to Acchan, but no. Only Hoshino-san looks a bit small here. And why don’t Anii sit next to other members? Ozaki-san was being unfair.
Then, time passed, it’s 1995 (real time).
It’s revealed that the hair stylist’s name is “Yuri”, maybe coincidence again…
Koji has a new hairstyle
I hope he didn’t wear a pair of tights at Music Station.
so…I have to stop here, because I haven’t read the following volumes, so sorry.
If you have found something else, tell me if you like.
Bonus:
This one was taken from Yahoo auction:
“偶像破壊主義” means Iconoclasm.

do you think sheith will be canon or at least heavily hinted in the series?
looking at it objectively, i’m going to say there’s a really high probability at this point. as good a chance as there being any romance for either keith or shiro at all. this is why:
their relationship has always been defined as the emotional heart of this series. we see no other relationship this strong, and this is consistently shown, from literally their first scene. we see keith set off explosions, take out an entire room of garrison operatives like they’re tissue paper, and then melt when he sees shiro:
it’s actually one of the biggest mysteries of the series so far. like here we have two totally independent, strong people that have this incredibly deep bond, and we have no idea how or why. it’s really a unique relationship no matter how you look at it. long, long meta under the cut:
