“so, i was watching catfish, right?” phoenix begins, her nose scrunches up at the thoughts that flooded her head as she bites the end of the twizzler. the amount of times she watched that show and here she was, still caught up in the concept behind it. “i still don’t understand why anyone would take a situation so far, especially if you’re claiming you’re bow wow and everything. like, how can you play someone like that? and then you think it’s okay to say the feelings, the messages that was all you except the whole lying about how you look and stuff. that’s terrible. it’s not even — i can’t even. “

her bright hues were glued to the iphone in her hands, scrolling through her social medias for about the hundredth time that day while she shoved snacks into her mouth periodically. it was normal to find leila either in the living room of the prove house or in the kitchen, and in that moment it was as if the house was dead silent. she couldn’t hear anything but the sounds from her phone and the constant chomps of her teeth on the food in her mouth. it was as if all fifteen artists were gone, hiding, or just planned a trip without her, but leila never minded if they did, she couldn’t care less. besides, she was alone in the house – or so she thought – with all the snacks that were hidden, all the dogs, and the living room’s television that had netflix installed was vacant for once. her free hand played with the rips of her jeans, adjusting the low grey t-shirt every couple of minutes.

at the sound of the voice, leila almost jumped. she was so focused on the phone in her hands she had hardly even heard phoenix make her way over. for a second, all she could do was stay silent – her mouth full of snacks, and slightly surprised at what the dark haired girl before her was asking. scanning the room for a moment to be sure she was talking to her, leila finished chewing before she placed her hand over her mouth, brushing crumbs off her crimson stained lips. “um – sure !” the raspy voice was almost a squeak, as she jumped up from her position on the couch, offering the other girl some of the cheetos from the bag before she gestured her hand to the stairs. “i’ll grab my bag and some shoes and we can go, yeah ?”

as the brunette read over the task once more, she thought about what exactly she could do. it had been a long time since she participated in community service, the days of high school flooding her mind immediately but those days were long gone. now, she put down the letter on her desk in place of her phone, beginning to research where the nearest animal shelter was. it was what she always used to do back home especially because the amount of love she had for animals was great. the times she almost adopted a few dogs too many was proof of that so, she figured it would be a breeze here. and once she discovered one, she slipped on her worn pair of black Vans with her bag on her shoulder and left her room, skipping a little.

now, it was only the matter finding someone who wanted to take time of their day to go with her. like before, except this time would be different – maybe. her small fingers wrapped around the strap of her bag tightly, searching the house for anyone that would be available for the day. and just as she thought her luck was running dry, she found an individual in the comfort of the living room in the midst of whatever they were doing. “hey!” she chirped, praying she didn’t scare the person off. she bit her lip momentarily, pushing the hair from her face before continuing. “do you wanna go to the animal shelter with me for some volunteer work? i can’t promise you much but if you do this for me, i’ll buy you food or something.” her voice was nearly hopeful as she stood before them, the smile that captured her features was soft yet bright.
