Happy 10th anniversary to FFXIV ! Even if I've played FFXIV only for 4 years, I've been looking about it (and especially listening to its amazing music) since 7 - 8 years and it followed me during many important years of my life :) I've met awesome people thanks to this game and it helped me going out of my confort zone on many aspects. Cosplay is only one of them and probably the most visible but i assure you there's many others that definitely changed my daily life (especially as an anxious person)

I really loved cosplaying as the infamous Nael van Darnus ! This costume was huge but quite comfy and it's always a pleasure to trigger some ultimate raiders with some of her quotes from UCoB 🙃

I realise I don't have any proper post about Elina

So meet my WoL Elina. She's a half elezen/ half highlander dark knight/dragoon/summoner living in Ishgard. She grew up in La Noscea and used to work at Limsa's customs. Replacing one her colleagues for a mission outside the city lead her to being sent as lominsan emissary (with her childhood friend) in Gridania and Uldah. And so her adventurer's life began.

She's highly curious about Allag era and loves to explore old allagan ruins, even if she was often injured during these trips. When she's not busy doing WoL stuff and exploring new horizons, Elina works hard as a free company leader (she truly loves paperwork). After EW she has also works as opening a new part of the adventurer guild in Ishgard.

Meet Heymera, aka Elina's Azem !

Heymera is an Ancient who's born with less aether capacities as others Ancients. To compensate, she developed the stock magic, allowing her to draw into the surrounding aether to be able to use creation magic. As an Azem, she often travelled into the farthest regions of Etheirys, trying to help the populations as much as she could without having to rely on the creation magic and all the powers that were common for the Ancients.

When she learned about Elina's existence from Venat, she tried to summon her, mixing Azem's summoning magic and soul linked teleportation, which took her years and a lot of resources. Despite having bad beginnings with Elina when they finally met, they became closed and brought hope to each other. Elina's existence and what she showed her from the future world (via memory crystals) helped Heymera avoiding falling into despair during the Final Days. And thanks to Heymera, Elina learned Stock magic and found answers on how her aether issues might stabilise in the future, which brought her more serenity.

Heymera used to wear yellow flowers in her hair. After leaving her position as one of the Azem because she was disagreeing with the Convocation choice of summoning Zordiark, she met Themis (who used to be one her friend, before both of them got a position affiliated to the Convocation), brought him some confort and offered him a yellow /golden scarf made with the aether of these flowers that Heymera loved, to help him remember her. This memory remained so strong that it influenced Elidibus form as primal warrior of light: his cape was made from that same fabric that Heymera offered him before leaving. Elina also wears this colour, as a way to honour both Themis and Heymera's memory.

Time for some cosplay content !

I have been working on Nael van Darnus armor since few months and i finally finished it few days ago ! it was definitely the most complicated armor i ever built but it was fun to do :) i can’t wait to begin to craft her weapon !

All the costume is entirely hand made (on foam) with my own patterns. If someone needs them for some cosplay the would share similar pieces... (like Gaius, Regula, Nero, Valens etc... Many garlean armors share some similar patterns), feel free to ask me. I would gladly share them :)

"Happy Starlight celebrations little one"

Starlight fest is one the most important celebrations for Eli. Since she have no more family to spend these holidays with, she's often found helping the organisers of the celebrations in big cities and mainly in Ishgard. After Firmament's reconstruction, she went to the new orphanage to bring children some presents and help them decorate the new housing district.

I haven't been on Tumblr for years but it's time to come back around !

So I'm Elina, a shitty irl cosplayer and also huge FFXIV fan. I'll post here mostly FFXIV content (mostly gposes, silly screenshots from the daily Dynamis experience and some cosplay stuff related to final fantasy 14).

My main character is on Spriggan (Chaos DC) but I'm also messing around in NA servers, as I have 2 alts on Crystal DC and on Dynamis DC.

Starter GPose: Lighting 103 - Instances

In a previous lighting guide, we talked about gpose controls, and how to use them in a controlled setting. But dungeons and other instances offer amazing places for scenario composition, and it would be a shame to ignore so much potential! So grab your backpack - we're hitting the Duty Finder!

Access

One thing that may escape our collective attention when planning for solo shots is that it's very easy to use dungeons as backdrop: Newer dungeons benefit from Explorer Mode, while older dungeons can be entered solo by selecting Unrestricted Party. Both can be found under Settings.

Raids, on the other hand, can be finicky. There's no Explorer Mode, but regular 8-people raids can be accessed with Unrestricted Party.

Some (I'm looking at you, NiER raids) have access points that you can use to jump into an empty copy of the raid instances.

Lighting

Some things to keep in mind while scouting for locations in dungeons: Lighting can be a bit inconsistent, with point sources placed in odd locations or light fixtures emitting no light at all.

You'll even find some circumstances where shadows go in the wrong direction!

So don't rely on hints: check how the environment lights interact with your character. Extreme cases may include very harsh sources, and because of the naive way the 10+ years old engine handles shadowed surfaces (hint: it doesn't), you may end up with monstrosities like this:

One way to fix this specific issue is to move the character away from the source, enough so all facial structures are shadowed according to the engine. Then, use profile point lights to fix the setup.

So all these issues are, in the end, easily handled. and there's a lot to look out for: Some sources have effects, like flickering torches, an excellent resource if you're planning for an animated GIF capture.

Others even have custom light maps, like Haukke Manor and that gorgeous stained glass illumination.

Some areas have mixed illumination sources, like The Wanderer's Palace, another gorgeous place that comes up early in the game.

You can also look out for reflection effects, like polished marble floors - or this water mirror, again in Wanderer's Palace:

So give instances a try. There's a veritable treasure trove of scenarios available that can greatly enhance your shots!
