When Looking For a Boarding School
When looking for a boarding school, all you want is the best for your son or daughter. You want to protect your children from the negative influences that come with public schools and provide your students with an experience in school that will maximize their chances of success. Then, naturally, if a boarding school is what you want, you will want to put your children or children in one of the best boarding schools available in the market. But to really be able to decide which school you would like your children to attend, you must better understand what a boarding school is exactly if you do not know it.
What is a boarding school?
A boarding school is a school that offers its students a very different program than other schools. In a school, students actually live inside the school most of the time, unless the school has alternative programs that allow the opposite. Boarding schools can come with special purposes such as religion, troubled teens, basic education, direct person-to-person education, college preparation, military schools and much more.
The different alternative options offered by a school to the public, which can vary and change between schools are full term, weekly and daily.
All boarding schools offer options for students to live within them, but some schools offer alternative options for families who do not wish to be divided but do not wish to be excluded from schools for that reason. The weekly students attended and stayed in the boarding school only during the weekdays and returned home on weekends, while the daily students only attended school during the day for classes and then returned home every day afterwards and They usually had the weekend off.

Academic Boarding School, The Other Kind Of Boarding School
An academic or minimum income boarding school is, by definition, a traditional boarding school that specializes in making students regain their academic potential. While these schools are for college preparation, they have lower admission requirements than traditional schools and have less expensive tuition and fees.
Such schools are being used by parents instead of therapeutic or residential treatment centers or training camps, and due to the inaccessibility of traditional boarding schools due to location or prohibitive enrollment. In general, these schools accept high I.Q. or potential that has been delayed in public schools or other private schools. They have succeeded in getting students back to their true academic level with the help of very small groups of students and specially trained teachers and staff.
When students have lagged behind their potential or skills in other schools, they have also generally added minor behavioral concerns to their lives as well. Serious legal or drug problems usually eliminate students from consideration in typical boarding schools; however, minor problems are accepted and expected in an academic boarding school.
The type of minor behavior problems mentioned would be the following:
1) Fighting with parents and teachers
2) Light use of marijuana
3) Experimentation of alcohol
4) General Opposition Behavior
5) Run away
6) Functional depression
Other problems accepted in this school format are children with high intelligence on the autism spectrum. Asperger's, as an example.
Academic catch-up internships do not offer therapy as a standard procedure. In most cases, therapists are available at an additional charge to parents in the event that therapy is necessary for the continued mental health of the child or to continue the therapy started at home. Children who have recently participated in a family divorce or death, for example, will often need therapeutic help until they can work because of depression or anger.
Although these schools are less available numerically than the older boarding schools, they show excellent results in preparing children for college. The GPA of common admissions begins in 1.2 to 3.3. Often, these schools are simply used to make a good student even more successful in their general GPA and college entrance exams.
It is not uncommon for academic recovery schools to have ACT / SAT scores that match or exceed traditional internship. Considered an excellent educational opportunity for the price, many schools in this profile are seeing students who would normally apply to traditional internships in their student bodies. The small size of the classes and the specialized instructors are a combination that elevates the success independently of the current mentality or the temporary problems of behavior.
Most, but not all, of this class of internees are found in small communities where crime is minimal and drugs are rare or unavailable; which allows students to participate in community affairs, including plays, musicals, public service and after-school clubs at nearby public high schools.
Student populations have a small average of 20-100 children and are generally mixed. Most instruction is live by teachers with a master's degree or better. While sports are available, full team sports are not, due to the size of the student body. In general, children are encouraged to focus on an interest outside of school, such as music, the arts, an individual sport, horse riding, animal husbandry, etc.

The Best Tips for Middle School Students
Most students need to make a small extra effort in middle school to make sure they start high school at the head of the class, with a solid foundation. Even if your child is in a large private or public school and is already a student A, following these tips will ensure that they are at the head of the class. In fact, I will say that any student who makes an effort during the summer to improve their vocabulary and practice SSAT exams will skip at least one level at school.
I have seen A's high school students who do not score well on the SSAT and I have seen parents pay thousands and thousands of dollars to tutors to see very little improvement. I have also seen parents enroll their students in rigorous summer classes, taking away the time to enjoy sports or a camp, only to see the same result next year at school.
This is a method that I believe is the best method for your child to maximize his or her potential. It requires effort and is aggressive. You must make sure that your child works on the SSAT practice exams 5 days a week, for one hour a day. Along with the practice exams, the student needs to play some quizlet.com games by working on SSAT vocabulary lists or SAT vocabulary lists. It requires discipline. If you can achieve that goal throughout the summer, the exams are corrected and the student reviews why he solved each problem, by the end of the summer he will see a great improvement.
This is a very aggressive method, but one that will surely propel your child to the top of the class and prepare him to create a high school curriculum vitae to impress any college.
Get several SSAT preparation books. You can get practice exams at ssat.org, which will also inform you about the exam. Princeton Review usually has practice tests that have the same level difficulty as the actual test and Barron usually has more difficult practice tests.
If your child completes as many practice tests as possible, during the summer it is better, correcting each one and reviewing with them the problems that are wrong before taking the next one, you can feel confident that your vocabulary, reading and math skills are solid.
How a child does in the SSAT is often a great prediction of how they will do on the SAT in high school. In fact, the SSAT results page provides a prediction of a variety of outcomes your child could achieve on the SAT.
