Very excited to listen to the @camlannpod soundtrack on cassette! It arrived on a ludicrously-chilly Australian afternoon when the moss was growing bright green after rain in my driveway, just a few days before my birthday and a month before the 1 year anniversary of my first listen too, how lovely and on-theme!

I will be hopefully getting an actual cassette deck soon but in the meantime everyone should listen to Camlann and tell the folks at @tincanaudio how much you love it (as loud as you can so we can all revel in new seasons!)

Scrolling iNaturalist to try to ID my moss samples, I discovered the light green sprawling one is actually a leafy liverwort.

Nonvascular plants remind me of miniaturised rainforests in the same way circuitboards remind me of cities bustling with resistor-cars around capacitor factories and microchip houses.

Soon it’ll be twelve years since I started designing and writing nonsense about this character, Yolanda, from my longform creative project, ‘The Nightmare Scenario’.

So instead of doing anything about that, I’m just going to keep doing colourscale portraiture until new inspiration hits like a resurrection fern coming back from drought!

This little curio-style sketch of Queen Rhiannon from episode 7 of @camlannpod is like an I-Spy book but just for my own creative influences, I think.

My introduction to writing was Cornelia Funke's Mirrorworld series when I was 12, hence the hand having six fingers (one for each curse, if I remember her right). I grew up making clover crowns on the school oval, collected cicada shells and wings, and had a lovely tabby who brought me very large grasshopper legs as presents. I adore the creature designs in the original Hellboy movies, especially the tooth fairies and manners of speech. I like to think the fairy dominions of Annwn and the Mirrorworld have sickeningly beautiful light effects like the photo I took at a garden show last year; to enthrall, disorient, and potentially incapacitate unwary newcomers.

One more interesting (and probably unrelated) element to note: I very much enjoy the fact this ethereal being of story and legend is being played by someone whose own Name is also a byword for the fey/fay/fae, etc.

I don't know if it's the neurodivergent/queer instinct but I kept thinking "Perry sounds like they wear suspenders, even if impractical" and then talking myself out of factoring it into their designs.

Then I watched the @camlannpod episode nine listen-along, where Robyn is casually also wearing suspenders. So either all nonbinary folks share a singular brain cell or it's foretold.

(also this version of their general outfit/vibe is a mashup of my two best friends from highschool eons ago and I'm only just now noticing???)

Not 100% on either Dai's or Shujun's designs, but the @camlannpod brainrot is so real I had to have a campfire over it so this is where it's at.

Whether the jacket is Morgan's with her old scout badges on it, or Perry's newest motivational idea to convince Dai to hike is the real question of the hour, so I'm off to see if you can indeed burn a match at both ends.
