Back in the day, I used to pick out my back to school outfit days in advance. Everything had to be perfect to make the right impression. Nowadays, my own kids feel the same way! I can not tell you how many outfits my oldest kid went through before she finally picked the outfit that inspired this post today.

When you are fat or plus size, the process to find the right outfit to enter the new school year is even more dramatic. My advice? First is this mustard coloured t-shirt dress from Forever 21. The thing I love most about these type of dresses is that you can easily dress them up or dress them down. No matter which option you choose, your outfit is always on point!

To wear over the t-shirt dress is this badass leather leopard print moto jacket from Eloquii. Protip: A moto jacket is a simple way to jazz up any outfit! Moto jackets always add a bit of James Dean to your style.  It’s one of the many reasons I’m such a huge fan of them.

  To take this outfit up a notch, I added these a pair of awesome [eafl id=”2777″ name=”Black Combat Boots (Width)” text=”combat boots from Torrid”]!  The thing I love most about these boots is that they come in wide width and they look super comfortable. You guys know that comfort for me is always the biggest factor in putting together an outfit.

And as always accessories are my favourite. First up is this g[eafl id=”2778″ name=”Cross & Rose Pendant Layered Necklace” text=”old layered chain necklace from Romwe”]. I don’t always gush about brands (okay; I do it a little) but Romwe has become my go-to place for cheap but fantastic statement jewellery. This necklace gives me mad Madonna feels. This outfit is as different as the first as night and day. While the first look was all about looking badass, this one is a preppy plus size outfit inspiration! First up is this simple 3/4th sleeve white blouse from ModCloth. However, the magic comes with this [eafl id=”2787″ name=”Plus Tweed Tartan Print Asymmetrical Hem Skirt” text=”plus size tweed pinafore skirt from SHEIN”]. The moment I saw this skirt I just knew I had to add it to this ootd!

Next is the shoes:  for me, once again it’s all about comfort!  When you are going to school, you are constantly walking everywhere and walking a lot in high heels will kill your feet. With that in mind, I chose these[eafl id=”2788″ name=”Yellow Mustard Block Kitten Heel Sandals” text=” mustard colour block kitten heels from Zappos”]. These are so cute and honestly, you can wear them with any outfit. I also choose these sandals in this yellow mustard colour because I wanted to play with mixing and matching colours without being too matchy-matchy.

But you are probably like, “Gigi these shoes only go up to size 10 and my feet are wide?” Don’t worry! Here is a nice, very cute alternative is these mustard flats from Modcloth (I love, love, LOVE Modcloth)! They totally come in wide-with and they look super comfortable too.

Finally, the accessories. I love the little gold details so much. It just adds a little touch of pizazz to this basic backpack.

As a black person in America, we as people we are constantly trying to reclaim the African culture that was stripped away from us by slavery.  You will see examples of that with ‘Black Panther’, which I did a post about that a year ago.  It’s something that over the years that I have connected myself to from things from Africa mixing it my own southern black culture.

With this outfit, I wanted to create an African inspired plus size outfit.  Unlike my previous post, I really wanted to make this outfit accessible to plus size people. So without further ado, I present to you an African plus size outfit that is both lovely and affordable!

This blouse is sexy without being too revealing which means that it can totally do double duty at work.  To match is this gorgeous [eafl id=”2690″ name=”Yellow African print maxi skirt” text=”yellow African print maxi skirt”] that I found on Amazon.   When comes to dark skinned black people, I can not recommend yellow enough! If you don’t have any yellow items in your closet, you need to get some.  Yellow makes your melanin just pop!

Next, to match the blouse I chose these simply magnificent [eafl id=”2686″ name=”Women’s Royal Blue Golden Sole Cross Over Ankle Strap Wedge Sandals” text=”gold and royal blue wedge sandals”] from FSJshoes. The gold insert and base of the shoe and the way the texture of the shoes really give me African feels.  Also, can we talk about this kitten heel wedges?  Personally, for me this summer: COMFORT IS KEY!  It is possible to be both cute and comfort and this outfit totally proves it.

Now, let’s talk about accessories.  Admittedly, I went overboard with the accessories but I’m all about going big or going home!  First up is this fantastic [eafl id=”2687″ name=”Handmade Ethnic Necklace African Bohemian Multicolor Beads Statement Choker Boho” text=”African blue, black, yellow, and gold beaded statement necklace”] from eBay. Let me give you guys a pro tip: If you want cheap costume jewelry buy them from eBay. They have one of the best and cheapest jewelry on the internet.

Then I chose this [eafl id=”2688″ name=”Gold Geometric Cuff Bracelet” text=”gold geometrical cuff bracelet”] from Nordstrom.  I really love the lines in this bracelet and it really adds some bling without being too obnoxious about it.  It really adds to my overall theme of #BlackExcellence.

Speaking of jewelry I chose these awesome [eafl id=”2691″ name=”Multicolor Gold Tone Triple Thread Ball Beads Earrings Boho Lantern Dangle Drop” text=”gold beaded lantern earrings t”]hat I found on eBay. They really add to the outfit and I love how they match the color of the print of the yellow dress.  Next, I added a[eafl id=”2692″ name=”White Leo Translucent Clutch” text=” white transparent envelope clutch”] from once again Nordstroms.

Then finally, because black people love our headscarves.  I chose this[eafl id=”2693″ name=”2019 Head Wrap Scarf – African Scarf Hair Ties – Long Stretchy Length Sizing” text=” simple yellow headscarf”] that again I found on eBay.  Now, this might be a little too much. I actually love a good headwrap myself, but it’s all up to you in the end.

This month’s Remix is all about Kileen, a Dallas based Software Developer by day and fashion blogger by night. I have five kids myself, but Kileen always seems like she has a boundless well of energy even with all of the things she juggles like her career, her blog ‘Cute and Little’, and her husband and children. Kileen is proof positive that sometimes a woman can have it all!

Yet, what really attracted me to ‘Cute and Little’ was that Kileen was taking her own struggles with fashion as a petite woman and using that as a motivation to make fashion accessible for petite women just like her. In this original outfit, Kileen is wearing this gorgeous stripped off the shoulder dress from Red Dress Boutique that she wore in this post. Unfortunately, I couldn’t quite find a dress that similar enough for plus sizes. Instead, I decided to choose this [eafl id=”2657″ name=”Plus Size Striped High Slit Jumpsuit – Fire Engine Red” text=”halter plus size striped jumpsuit”] from Gamiss. It still carries that fun and flirty feeling of the dress but in a different form.

Next Kileen chooses a simple pair of [eafl id=”2658″ name=”Steve MaddenIrenee Sandal” text=”nude block heels”]. Now, I love how instead of being matchy-matchy and adding a white pair of shoes she mixed it up with a neutral nude color. I decided that instead of the higher heels to go with a block kitten heel. Protip: Block heels are actually more comfortable than your usual stiletto, but for real comfort always go for kitten heels instead of something higher.

Now, let’s talk accessories. I added my own twist to the accessories but without losing that fun color twist that makes Kileen’s overall outfit so much fun!

The first accessory I chose was a pair of cute [eafl id=”2659″ name=”Boho Women Hollow Rattan Circle Cloth Tassel Dangle Long Stud Earrings Jewelry” text=”red circle tassel earrings”] from 55Mulberry. I think they add a little flair to any outfit especially this one. Then, I added a pair of[eafl id=”2660″ name=”Classic Old Retro Fashion Stylish Gorgeous Womens Tortoise Cat Eye Sunglasses” text=” tortoise shell cat eye sunglasses”]. They are a little bit different than the ones Kileen wore in the photo below but they still fabulous! Then the handbag, I actually struggled over using the same handbag Kileen used in the photo or try something similar.

I went with the latter with this outfit. I love this fabulous [eafl id=”2661″ name=”Women Ladies Shoulder Quilted Handbag Gold Chain Faux Leather Cross Body Bag” text=”white chain crossbody purse”] so much. I am really a fan of the black inserts on the sides that is actually quite similar (but simpler) to Kileens.

Finally, is this[eafl id=”2662″ name=”Magnetic buckle leather bracelet” text=” blue and silver multiple chain bracelet”] from again Mulberry. I really love wearing bracelets with a sleeveless number. It just adds a little something extra to this overall outfit.

It’s Prom Season, and twenty years ago when I was preparing for Prom I wish I had more options. I actually ended up buying a cute halter dress with white gloves from Sears. Now, plus size girls have a lot more options so you can look your best and be the princess you want to be for your big night out.

With this post, I have 2 outfits one that is perfect if you are a smaller scale of being plus size and one for folks like me who are the bigger end of the spectrum.  This post especially is all about making prom accessible for everyone, not just the straight sized people!

This dress reminds me of something that I can see some starlet on the red carpet wearing at a premiere or an award ceremony.  It’s all about glamour and sparkle.

Next is the accessories: I went with ultra shiny when I came to them.  First up, I chose this [eafl id=”2633″ name=”Amber Layered Chain Y-Necklace” text=”simple layered gold coin necklace”] Nordstroms.  It really gives the impression of looking utterly expensive without having to pay a lot of money. Next, I chose, this nude color and gold mirror clutch handbag from DSW.  Finally, are these gorgeous[eafl id=”2634″ name=”Sterling Silver & Yellow Gold Plated Drop Earrings” text=” gold drop earrings”] from Carolyn Pollack.   I really love how basic and elegant they are and you can totally wear them over and over again in your daily life.

It looks so pretty and it’s one of my favorite colors (purple). However, what really makes this dress work for me is that is so versatile! The straps are easily convertible! No matter if you prefer a strapless, halter top, one side strap you can easily customize this dress.  By the way? It’s on sale, so if you got a wedding in June to go to?   This dress can absolutely be worn for that event as well! Also, I’m all about comfort, and what made this dress a big winner for me is that it looks so comfortable. This is something I can totally see myself wearing to dance the night away!

To match (because gold is totally a theme in this post) is these gorgeous pair of gold metallic kitten heel sandals from ASOS. With this outfit, this is all about comfort and these heels are elegant but won’t kill your feet by the end of the night.  Also, remember that gold is a neutral so you can wear these heels multiple times with multiple outfits.

Let’s talk about accessories! For this outfit, in particular, I wanted to go with the one strap Grecian look because I’m a Greek mythology nerd, okay? So, a lot of this outfit has a lot of Greek-inspired touches.  Next up is this pretty gold sequin clutch from Charming Charlie.  To match, these gorgeous [eafl id=”2643″ name=”Metal Flower Layered Drop Earrings 1pair” text=”gold leaf drop earrings”] Romwe.  I really love how pretty they are and they give me all the greek feel without being too expensive.

Then finally,  I chose this gold leaf arm bracelet that I found on Etsy to really round off the look.

It’s been a minute since I featured them on this blog and I thought it was high time that I get off my duff. I fell in love with this dress from the moment I saw it. The silhouette is any plus size’s woman dream. It really gives the illusion of curves.

Next, as a pop of color, I decided to not use the color red. I always use red and I really wanted to try to reach outside of my usual comfort zone. For jewelry for a semi-formal to a formal event, I think it’s the best time to pull out your more expensive jewelry.  So, these jewelry pieces are totally an investment. Hey guys,  welcome back! This outfit I decided to be a little casual and a lot of comfortable. The late Spring and Summer months are always hard on me. I am all about comfort and putting as little effort into getting dressed as possible.  I know that I’m not the only plus size person who feels the same. This is why I decided to put together this post.

This outfit is cute, feminine, and so comfortable that you can wear it at home, to a BBQ, or to just run some errands on a weekend. As always say, you don’t have to dress in sweats all the time to be comfortable. You can be cute AND comfortable and this outfit diffidently proves it.

Now, I have talked long enough. Let’s get started with breaking down this outfit, shall we?

First off, let’s talk about this [eafl id=”2550″ name=”plus size pink top” text=”pink plus size top “]that I found at KimCurvy. It’s been a minute since I featured them on this blog, but I decided that I was going to feature the affiliates that I haven’t featured in a while.  I love the cut and the color is so pretty.

Next is a simple pair of [eafl id=”2552″ name=”Light wash plus size high waisted jean shorts” text=”plus size high waisted light wash jean shorts”] from Rainbow. You guys know that I love Rainbow, and now that Charlotte Russe has bit the big one it’s now my favorite place to shop.  Over it, since it’s still a bit chilly is a simple sheer white cardigan from Simply Be.

Then, I decided to go super comfortable with the shoes.  These white leather Birkenstocks sandals from Happy Feet are fabulous. I always thought Birkenstocks were only for hippies.  They always looked very unattractive to me even though everyone assured me that they are super comfortable.  Now, I know that Birkenstocks come in different types of styles, colors, and fabrics, and these are super cute and I love how they are made!

Now, let’s talk about accessories.  The thing about this outfit is that you can go as a little or a lot of accessories and it really doesn’t really affect the overall composition of this outfit. It’s all up to you!  Yet, you guys know me? I’m from Texas and we are all about going big or going home.

So, I went big with this gorgeous necklace gold layered necklace from Loft  Outlet.  Speaking of Loft Outlet, I picked these gorgeous gold hoop earrings that are not only lovely but totally affordable.  Then I added a pair of cute pinkish sunglasses from Anne Taylor Factory.  Because if you going to be out on a sunny day,  then a fabulous pair of shades is diffidently a must. Finally, is this simple tan brown leather crossover handbag from once again my new favorite store Loft Outlet.

Captain Marvel is the first women-led film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.   As someone who is pretty much a card-carrying geek and a femme, I was more than happy to actually see this film. Actually, I had been anticipating going to see this film even more than Avengers: End Game which is coming out next month.  I know I wasn’t the only femme or woman that had been gobbling up every spoiler, every trailer, and oh my god the movie totally delivered!  I’m not going to give away spoilers,  but it was pretty fantastic.

With girl power in mind, I wanted to do some low-key cosplay.  For people like me, who want to obtain the same look of their superhero fave without all the trouble of getting a costume together.  This is why it’s a low-key cosplay, you can walk outside without getting too many weird looks but still feel a little more empowered and badass as you go throughout your day.

First of all, this look is heavily inspired by Carol Danvers’s grunge look in the movie.  I changed a few things here or a there but most of it emulates Carol’s look and makes it accessible for us larger folks.  Now, that I got that out of the way we are going to first start off with this badass brown leather Captain Marvel pilot’s jacket.  It’s official Marvel mech of course, and Torrid of course came through for us!

Next to go with is this Nine Inch Nails white plus size t-shirt that has the Star Force logo incorporated into it.  In the movie, Carol wore the original NIN logo, but I just love this take on it.  Then I chose a simple pair of distressed plus size skinny jeans from SHEIN.  They are not exactly the same pair Carol wore, but honestly, with this outfit, you can wear any type of distressed jeans and it will still have the same look.

Of course, what is a 90’s grunge look without a pair of black doc martens? My favorite nineties character Daria wore them all the time and they are indeed a pair of kick-ass boots that are cool whenever it’s the 90’s or 2019. My new affiliate Zappos was the perfect place to pick from.

Speaking of grunge, let’s talk flannel.  I found a similar looking plus size green flannel shirt at Forever 21 that is perfect to tie around your waist.  Really adds a nice touch to this low-key cosplay.  And the final touch, of course, is the gray SHEILD ball cap that I found on eBay.  I love that retailers did not come to play when it came to Captain Merch! It was so easy to find all the finishing touches to pull this outfit together!

Wow, it’s been a minute since I did my last remix post. However, it was more than high time that I got off my duff and did another one of these posts.  When I thought about who will be the next subject for my latest remix, Jodie from Jodie’s Touch of Style instantly came to mind.  Jodie’s own blog is making sure that fashion is accessible no matter what age you are.

So with accessibility in mind (and in this case for fat people), I decided to remix Jodies’s super cute outfit she wore last year for Spring Break. Although Spring Break has now passed us, this is still an outfit that can be worn anytime during the Spring/Summer season.

The Look

First of all, let’s start off with Jodie’s gorgeous light blue printed dress. I searched everywhere for something similar but I couldn’t find it.  So instead I choose this super cute blue and white printed plus size sheath dress from JC Penny’s.  The thing I love most about dresses like these is that you can wear them over and over again and still look fantastic no matter what the type of event you are going to.

Next is this lovely yellow polka dot raincoat that I found on Amazon. I love the pop of yellow and how it really goes with the overall outfit. Jodie, of course, loves to show how you can mix and match patterns and still pull together a fabulous outfit.

Now let’s talk about shoes.  Jodie has these wonderful ruffle white wedges that I’m completely envious of. Especially since I actually went looking for something similar and couldn’t find anything. However, lucky for you I got these similar looking white wedges from Macy’s. I love the texture of the straps that are made out of rope.

It’s finally time to talk accessories!  First up is Jodies’s fabulous cat eye yellow horned rimmed sunglasses. I found a similar looking pair at an online store called Shopzerouv.  Then, I chose this beaded multicolor necklace that I found on Etsy.  I have recommended Etsy before because if you are especially looking for unique jewelry or other accessories Etsy is totally the place to go.

Speaking of Etsy, I chose this handmade crafted pattern bag.  Handcrafted stuff, especially accessories are a huge trend right now and it’s a great way to support independent artisans and creators.
