i hate applying for jobs because the employers are always like: do you enjoy working in a stressful environment???? do you strive for unobtainable standards of perfection???? are you good at dealing with people that make you feel extremely uncomfortable??? do you mind losing real hours of your life in order to make minimum wage?? are you a fan of capitalism??? do you love selling your soul just so you can afford to live???

i dont even think calling twitter social-justice tendencies “x years behind tumblr” or w/e is all that accurate because in many ways the reactionary elements of what made that part of tumblr so bad are still around & just as prevalent. in general i think good-faith internet sj discourse can’t really progress past a certain point because there’s so much incentive to like, monetize your internet presence somehow (and maybe not even in terms of literal money, being generally well-regarded can act as a kind of currency, especially in milieus where those things are ruthlessly quantified & implicitly used as objective markers of quality or merit), which creates a lot of dishonesty & really stifles people’s ability to explore ways of thinking outside of the dominant/lowest-common-denominator frameworks, because the inevitable misunderstandings will naturally make your internet presence harder to appeal to people. idk im just rambling but my point is that the public-facing internet isn’t a good place to discuss interesting things, it’s just another vehicle for virtual commodity circulation
