Yabushige is so comically bad at scheming. He is not at all tactically savvy enough to pull off these plots and dastardly deeds. He’s always one step behind Ishido, he’s an entire lap behind Toranaga. He tries to lead John & Mariko, two people who trust him a reasonable amount, into an ambush under the guise of helping them escape and they want to go the other direction for no reason other than they just want to go that way instead. He cannot catch a break. It’s essentially slapstick at this point.
