just saw a post talking about how important it was for drake to be killed with neil’s heavy racqet so that we would understand the gravity of riko trying to hit neil after the foxes won the final game, because riko also used a heavy racquet. like riko would’ve actually killed neil right there on national television, not just maim or injure, like dead.

i didn't even realise that neil grabs jean's sleeve before he leaves the car when he tells him grayson won't bother him again. his sleeve !!! because he knows not to touch him without warning. the same way he does for andrew. i'm literally about to cry on the train. neil josten the boundary-respecting consent king you are !!!

her kissing his shoulder and forehead and saying, you're a good man Jean Moreau. her teaching Jean to cook and him finding one of his first true comforts in spending hours cooking with her. Jean pushing about going to the court and Cat saying, patience, babe. Jean getting flustered and Cat saying, sometimes I forget you're just a kid. Cat getting pissed about the Ravens and memorizing and recounting the exact injuries that they gave Jean. Cat taking Jean for a ride to one of her favorite places to share the comfort with him. Cat giving him shells on the beach. Jean watching Cat dance with so much joy and freedom and thinking, Friends.

In the next tsc book, I neeeed an interaction between Jean's mostly normal USC friends and Neil, who just drops by to check on him or smth. Like I want to see Trojans` reaction to Neil whole thing and his brand of caring (verbally eviscerating anyone who hurts his friends and straight up ordering a hit on them)

He's already batshit from Jean's pov and I gotta know what normal ppl think

Trying to decide if I should reread just the sunshine court or if I should reread the entire aftg series 🧐

Been seeing some stuff about how tsc is "plotless" and lemme just say, it IS. It is plotless but that's not a bad thing. Aftg seemed more happening because it was about dealing. Neil still had to deal with his father, still had to deal with the Moriyamas, had a psychopath hellbent on hurting him and everyone he cared about.

Tsc is nothing like that. It's about healing. Jean's not running from actual, physical threats but from his own trauma. That is not a bad thing. If it's not your cup of tea, fine but please don't shit on the work and say it's "plotless" or "bad". The plot is Jean healing, Jean learning to live and exist beyond the clutches of the Nest.

The whiplash from going from Neil's perspective where he didn't give a shit to Jean's just thirsting after half the cast was immaculate

Seeing neil from an outside pov actually 100% makes it clear why andrew was as intrigued as he was. Because we as readers could see how stressed neil was 24/7 but seeing him from jean’s perspective really helps to see how absolutely off the rails he seems if you don’t have the insider understanding of his character

Neil is about to go skipping home to Andrew like “babe 🥰💖 guess what I did in LA 😉” and it’s putting a hit out on a rapist

I just... he had a little sister that he loved more than anything. he followed thea around like a lost little duckling. he was in love with his best friend and it almost destroyed him. he uses pain to both punish himself and stave off panic attacks. he survived five years of brutal torture and abuse by the skin of his teeth. his parents sold him. his little sister is dead. he wants to burn the house down. he cannot cook or shop for himself. he hates his old teammates. he loves his old teammates. he quite possibly loves his new teammates even more. he frets for the safety of people he barely knows. he's terrified of water, of being bitten, of being hurt again. he laughed when his worst abuser was dethroned and beaten and then tried to kill himself in solidarity.

he's finding reasons to live, day by day, one step at a time. a cool evening breeze, rainbows, open roads, friends.

he is jean moreau. he knows his place. he will endure.

nothing makes me go "ooooh we are NOT the same" quite like reading some post about how people talk with their parents about their interests. what do you mean you told your father about stevebucky. what do you mean he asked further questions
